That seems like a great price, but I don't think Futureshop ships to the US. It also might have the double labels with French and English on it.

They don't put bilingual labels on TV DVDs.

I've actually been thinking about starting a thread asking for the best price on The X-Files Season Sets. Too bad they don't ship out of Canada, and it doesn't specify whether they're R1 or not...

Does anyone know a good place to look for X-Files sets? I'd love to luck-up on a good deal.

Canada and US both belong to region1, does a dvd released in US need to specify it's R1 or not?

By the way, futureshop is owned by bestbuy now, so you will probably see a similiar deal at bestbuy very soon.

I would be extra careful when buying x-files because of the extreme amount of bootleg asian versions out there, the cheapest place to get the x-files sets, is usually ebay, however, you have to make sure they are R1 or you will get junk.

Futureshop is a B&M store... there is no risk of bootlegs...

Yes this is a good deal if you want all of the seasons... they are around $100 each...

Before I knew about boots, I picked up the first 4 or 5 seasons on ebay for around $50 from one seller. His auction, and account were disappeared by ebay within a couple of hours of me doing a "buy it now" and so I was freaked. But, a week later they showed up and the picture quality was pretty good, even on a big front projection screen. I haven't been able to compare them with an official release, but I'd be surprised if they were much better.

So, the moral to the story is that buying boots doesn't necesarily mean low quality, it is a crapshoot in that department. But, buying them is probably borderline illegal.

Yes, but will you feel the risk of bootleg when you purchase dvds from bestbuy, amazon? Futureshop is a nationalwide store in Canada.

Wow that's a great deal. If I wasn't flat broke, I'd jump on that as I just started collecting X-Files.

dvdsoon would be a good alternative but you need to do a lot more;

first a fidelity card for CA$49.98 ($40.65) a year (renewing is NOT automatic and it gives you free shipping and 5% discount but there is a promotion that you'll get 25% off until the 6th of January) (details)

Then order any two xfiles season for CA$81.98 each and use the coupon foxtv2004 for a CA$10 discount (details)

You'll end up paying CA$115.47 per 2 seasons and you'll pay CA$461.88+$49.99 (card fee) = CA$511.86 ($416) for 8 seasons delivered WORLDWIDE and you'll get 5% discount and free shipping for a year with dvdsoon. But I'm trying to get all I want during the current sale though. Just picked up The Lord of The Ring EE Trilogy (12 discs) for around $66.

Hey, i was just trying to help, i wouldnt care if futureshop was bigger than walmart, i as a consumer like to be 100% positive, and when the poster said they didnt describe the region coding, I would be cautious, at least to the point of e-mailing the site. No harm there.

It just makes no sense. Do you email every US online store to ask? Comparing dvds bought on ebay and ones bought at a store is like apples and oranges. There is no need to be cautious as futureshop only sells region 1 dvds as several people have already stated. I don't think this thread needs anymore talk of bootlegs and non region 1 dvds as it does not pertain to Futureshop!

Yes, it is region 1, legit release, UPC 024543128595.

I ordered mine last night, and it has been shipped. I should have it tomorrow.

If anyone is REALLY concerned, I can post again when it arrives to verify, but rest assured, as previously mentioned, Futureshop does not deal in bootleg DVD's.

They are now taking orders to ship when available. I.e. their onhand stock is depleted, but they will take orders and honour the price. The $399 is currently $88 off the normal price.

Do you e-mail Best Buy before making a DVD purchase? If not, there's no reason to e-mail Futureshop. They're the SAME COMPANY.

Maybe not X-Files but CSI Season 1 has them. Not sure about other TV sets.

As a final FYI, I did receive my X-Files seasons 1-8, and they were indeed good old, legit, English only cover, factory release region 1 DVD sets.
