That was you at Blockbuster tonight pawning off Gigli, etc., wasn't it?

i actually spotted and purchased a box set (alias season 1), and also picked up the 2 disc version of dinosaur, 2 disc version of manhunter, and matchstick men - this should have been $40, but the BBV employee was having difficulties, and ending up charging me $24 - my receipt is totally screwey, but i certainly didn't complain...

wait. I thought that each 2 dvds you get for 2 for 20 they have to scan the upc coupon code.

Eg,

Buy four dvds they have to scan it twice?

is that correct?

Or do they just scan it once and it will give the 2 for 20 for each 2 PVDS that you get?

Hahhaa, yeah.

Third Ave & 15th Street? I was the Asian kid with the baseball hat (on my way to the gym to workout and watch the Yankees game )

A lot of movies can end up being free rentals or even makin' a profit so last week I bought 5 stinkers for $4.99 (never watched them), 3 movies for $7.99 (Gigli, Hollywood Homicide, Legally Blonde 2) and Dummy for $6.99. I watched the last 4 movies. I ended up trading all 9 back to them tonight and got $72+ Tax for them when I only paid $55.91 + tax for them.

I was expecting Gigli to be much much worse than it was, but the dialogue was without a doubt terrible.

Yeah, I figured it was you. I was the scruffy guy behind you. What's funny is that I had a bag full of mostly the same movies (minus Gigli). Thanks for the tip on transferring credit to a gift card--didn't know that one.

They have to scan the coupon per each 2 scanned for the discount to be registered in the computer.

I tried to do this in Houston with two boxed sets and 2 regular PVDs but it does not work. There is also a disclaimer saying 2 for $20 is not valid on box sets or DVDs priced at $19.99 or higher. I will be in New York next week, what stores specifically are you able to do this at??

I had no problem getting a boxed set in the 2 for 20 deal. Guy scanned it just like it was a normal disc and then scanned the coupon code.

I guess my Blockbuster is some Nazi camp ( ), cause they have a piece of clear tape with black letters that says "Not included with the 2 for 20 deal." on the five or six tv sets that they have used.

People have reported that in many instances, the pricing is much better on line, as well as the selection.

So true, I have made sure to check what the prices were on-line before making any of my purchases at the actual stores. Also of note, at the stores you may have to go to more than one to get the best price for something on even new DVD's, very sad that they cannot have an exact price guide from store to store.

Something to keep in mind: over the next few weeks, the stores will be stocking up on a lot of box sets and titles in anticipation of the holiday season, so if there's nothing around that you want to grab right now, it's probably worth waiting.

Ruk, the online shipping fees kind of wipe out the savings you get on the online price, which is indeed less than in-store but the selection is so superior you're better off shopping online, all other things being equal.

Traded in 16 yesterday for $128 credit.

Got:
Clerks X
Star Wars Trilogy

Still have $42 in credit.

Before I went to BBV, I went to Movie Trading Company and had them go through my pile. There were 4 discs that they gave me $7 for, and they pay cash so I took the $28 on those.

Then I went to King Soopers (one of our local grocery store chains), and bought 10 pre-viewed discs for $5/per. BBV took them all, so that offset BBVs inflated prices on Clerks and SWT.
