The Official Best Preorder Price for ROTK:EE Thread

Ok guys and gals...

Buy.com: $27.99 w/free shipping
Amazon: $23.99 ($21.59 w/STL)
DVDEmpire: $29.95
DVDSoon: $30.07 (USD)
BestBuy.com: $29.99 (likely to go down prior to release)
CircuitCity.com: $34.99 (likely to go down prior to release)

Laser Movies 10-01-04 01:32 PM

Hard to beat the Amazon STL price. However you need to purchase another item of at least a $1 to get free shipping included. Also you can save another 1.57% with the A9.com instant reward.

Dorsalphin 10-01-04 01:49 PM

Wow, this title isn't due out until mid-December, right? It might be a bit too early to start posting the best prices.

That said, I think the Amazon STL price is very good.

squaresoft7 10-01-04 02:08 PM

thats funny I was coming here to post this cause a friend sent me STL on this, i thought 21.59 was a great preorder price, don't think any of the B&M's can beat this, 24.99 is probably as close as they can get.

darqleo 10-01-04 02:17 PM

I usually buy my LOTR DVDs through deepdiscountdvd.com via preorder, but I think I'll just bricks & mortar it this time.

Wapcaplet 10-01-04 02:25 PM

I preordered both of the first LOTR Extended DVDs through Amazon with STL, and I remember that the price for each of them was just above $25 before STL was added.

ROTK:EE is actually a cheaper preorder at Amazon than the first two extended DVDs were!

Yes...I don't think the B&M's can touch this one as well...Great price and I will gladly give them my money (even though I will probably wait a little longer to get it).

Also, I wouldn't be suprised it Amazon raised their prices to 25.99 or so....

Amazon has recently raised prices on a few other pre-orders (Friends Season 8 and Batman:TAS Vol. 2). They may not honor the current price.

eau 10-01-04 03:32 PM

What about the best price for the giftset? I may pick up the giftset since I already have the last two sets :D

Giftset for me too! The Minas Tirith collectible looks very tempting. :D

I thought so too but with my bad memory, I wasn't going to put it into writing.

Amazon's the way to go. You can always cancel if the prices come down elsewhere (unlikely) or if they raise the price.

awc825 10-01-04 04:19 PM

The best price I've seen so far for the giftset is $50 at FYE.

brkhrt7 10-01-04 04:40 PM

Damn! The extended version is only $19.99 there as well.

Amazon is still the cheapest /w STL after factoring in the shipping charge.

How do you figure? Looks to me like FYE is ~$22 (shipping included) while Amazon is $24.57 (shipping included) even with STL.
Even so, I will still use Amazon as I know if there is a problem it will be quickly handled with a minimum of fuss. I can't recall dealing with FYE. If I have it was long ago. Can anyone recommend them?

You will likely have to add sales tax to the FYE amount since they have B&M stores in most states. But for a few dollars more you would be better off purchasing from Amazon.

abercrombieboy 10-01-04 08:28 PM

I will be placing an order Saturday at 12 noon EST. Anyone who wants STL let me know or add yourselves to STL at DVDtalk (www.dvdtalk.com/stl) STL price is $21.59, add something worth $3.41 for free shipping.

Actually, you'll only need $1.01 in order to qualify for free shipping. They calculate the free shipping before any coupon and discounts.

abercrombieboy 10-01-04 09:45 PM

cool - so what should I get for $1.01???

jekbrown 10-01-04 11:15 PM

buy it the 1st day its at walmart... the 1st two EEs were in the $23 range with...umm.. free shipping.

GuessWho 10-01-04 11:44 PM

Spoiler:
i'm putting it on my "what to buy me for Christmas" list --

Not when I tried it. It asked or 3.42.

It might ask, but when you get to the checkout page it is actually less.

Marvin 10-02-04 05:08 PM

Eric, you are correct. Thanks. (A $1.99 bottle of Herbal Essences shampoo (which I have to buy for someone in my family anyway) did the trick.)

But, at least around here, you have to add tax.

You know, my 11 year old could use that for her Spanish class. Thanks!

DJ_Longfellow 10-04-04 12:25 PM

Yep, I picked it up with STL also....I picked up a CD marker to go along with it....I actually spent the extra $3.xx to put it over $25...didn't realize I would've only needed a $2 item....oh well, I need the CD markers anyways.

EDIT: actually it appears that it does take into account the STL discount. I need 42 cents more after ordering a Spanish/English student dictionary for $2.99!

In the meantime, I'll look around to see if I can find something.

Adrenaline 10-04-04 12:31 PM

I ordered the book "Art of Deception" to go with the ROTK:EE to get free shipping, I guess I can wait for the book until December :)

DJ_Longfellow 10-04-04 12:38 PM

A funny thing...I preordered a DVD (Greg The Bunny) and along with it I preordered a few Sharpies. 2 different CD markes actually. They shipped the markers early...already got them. Funny thing is....they shipped them in seperate, BIG-ASS boxes. It was ONE marker in this BIG box...I was like wtf is this...

Oh well, at least it shipped early.....pretty nice of Amazon to do that :)

Yeah they do that with the CDs I've ordered through them. The package size was 12x9x4 and filled with air bags and paperwork/advertisments and then the 1 CD was on the bottom, just floating around. What a waste of paper material.

Yep!

sixerb 10-05-04 04:21 AM

for the life of me i can't get the a9 discount to work (first day i have tried)... is the offer dead to new people? or is there something special you have to do? (i've done the search and followed the directions...) thanks for your help!

eau 10-05-04 11:07 AM

Did you log into your account before doing a A9 search?

Ejunior2 10-05-04 01:26 PM

SLT plus a $10 Vividence GC = $11.59 shipped. Sweet! :)

Ordered a $4.99 book for my kid I was had in my wishlist for him anyway to get the free shipping.

Hobgoblin 10-05-04 01:49 PM

I am going to use my $25 Amazon Visa card promo certificate with STL to get the ROTK EE for free.

To get the free shipping I am thinking of combining either with HP:Prisoner of Azkaban @ $16.17 (with STL) or Spider-Man 2 superbit @ $18.87 with STL. I can wait for a couple of weeks to get HP or SM2.

My dilemma is: Could HP or spiderman 2 be possibly cheaper at B&M stores on release date?

[Edit]
Decided to go with ROTK:EE + HP shipped together.

Used Amazon reward cert for $25 + A9 search engine discount of 0.59 cents + STL + free shipping for a grand total of $12.17 for ROTK:EE & HP:POA .

QjO 10-05-04 02:42 PM

Thanks for the info - someone had left me a STL for this item, added a bottle of Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo 15 oz. for $1.09 - grand total:

$22.68

Suave - makes you look like you spent a fortune on your hair - and great for padding up to the required $25/free shipping.

eau 10-05-04 03:40 PM

The shampoo as a filler is great. Just hope it won't leak next to the ROTK EE during the transit :p

The A9 offer is still alive.

I just ordered ROTK:EE with A9 + STL + a GC an hour ago and it went thru just fine.
