Bay Area BLOCKBUSTER closing - 1/2 off DVD's

The Blockbuster next to Starbucks coffee (corner of Lawrence Expy and El Camino, in the Albertson's plaza) is closing.

All pre-viewed inventory is 1/2 off. Most are 4.00 each.

I saw the usual crop of previewed items, such as:

About Schmidt
American Splendor
Cheaper by the Dozen
Legally Blonde 2
T3
Someting's Gotta Give
Anger Management
A Mighty Wind
Texas Chainsaw remake
Scary Movie 3
Hollywood Homicide
Open Range
Mystic River
LOTR: ROTK

and blah and blah and blah.

Actually, the prices on most dvd's at that particular blockbuster are 12.99 and 14.99 (and you get 50% off of those prices). LOTR ROTK 12.99, I think scary movie 3 was 14.99, etc...

I did see vanilla sky at 9.99 (but in a generic blockbuster cover) but I did not see many major releases below that price except Gigli, Confidence, and Cheaper by the Dozen (or something like that) at 7.99 (and then you get 50% off).

From the street names, I'd guess Sunnyvale.

Yep, you got it. Across the street from the new Kohl's location (aka formerly Kmart store).

I'll check it out at lunch.

How are the conditions of the DVDs?

Thanks for the heads up.

The condition of the DVD's are typical Blockbuster - no inserts. But for that price, not bad.

A lof of the DVD's are marked at 8.00 with a half off making them 4.00. I made sure to ask the employee that the 8.00 was BEFORE the markdown.

I just went there during lunch time. Most of the DVDs price are 12.99 and 14.99. The selection is limited due to the fact that the sale started several weeks ago. A lot of copies of Cheaper by the Dozen and Something's Gotta Give. I saw a lot of boxes around the store. I assumed they will transfer most of the new DVDs to other store.

Really?

I had A MIGHTY WIND in my hands (sticker reads 7.99).

I took it up to the register and asked the guy: "So this is really 4.00 right?" And the guy nodded yes, as if I were retarded.

Hope he wasn't pulling my leg.

Yea, I went at lunch too. I would say it was somewhat evenly divided amongst $7.99, $12.99 and $14.99...at least for the ones I had moderate interest in. Nothing spectacular. Didn't pick anything up.

Some of the better stuff in the kids section and Kill Bill vol 1 were not being sold off. They were taunting me in the "not for sale" section.

If anything in the OP's first post interests you, they still had quite a few of those titles available with ROTK having only 2 copies left that I saw.

Note that at the counter they had coupons for 2 for 1 and $2.99 rentals (game or movie).

I think the point is that the sale is 50% off of the price on the dvd.

Granted, some dvd's have stickers with $7.99 (gigli, confidence, cheaper by the dozen, a mighty wind).

However, that said, I agree with funguy that most of the dvd's were 12.99 and 14.99.

jeffkjoe: I'm not sure when you were there last, but given their current inventory, $4 seems to be the exception, not the rule.
