Want DREAMSCAPE or ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13? Check this out...

Looks like Image Entertainment is releasing a Dreamscape/Assault on Precinct 13 2-pack on 10/28. Retail is only $15. DDD has it for only $8 shipped!

Any ideas if this will be the old or new version of A on P13? And is it the same as the existing SE of Dreamscape?

Digging up an old post. I wanted to pick up Precinct 13 and saw this 2 pack at DDDVD. Is it the newer edition?
THanks!

During the first DDD sale, it was $6.48 shipped. Great deal though. AOP13 is a damn fine movie.

That version (in Wally's bin) doesn't say SE - it's been stripped down.

the 2-pack i ordered from DDD during their sale included the Special Edition, which is has a commentary and a lengthy 35+ min interview with Carpenter and the lead actor. it also has a really nice photo slide show, which is not production stills as much as it is an overview of the entire production- it is narrated with text, includes storyboards, and has the film's music in the background. in all well worth the price.

Dreamscape was also a SE i believe, with a commentary and such, but i didn't crack that one open yet.

Its too bad the Assault commentary is so lame... Carpenter needs to go back and redo a commentary w/ some of the actors. He doesnt do good by himself.

I saw Assault on Precinct 13 in the Best Buy $5.99 DVD section.

Also I think you can get this 2 pack at Borders for $10.99 or something, I forgot, but I did buy mine there. The Assault DVD in the 2 pack is the SE, the only difference between getting them together and seperately is the ones in the pack say "Do not sell seperately" or something where the barcodes should be on the back.

As mentioned, the Walmart version is stripped down. I bought it and was somewhat disappointed that it was missing all the extras. Eh, I've heard the extras aren't great anyway.

So, are these movies any good? Seems like a good price for both movies. I want to see the new Assault on Precinct....so it seems like I would get Dreamscape for about $2 if I take DDD deal

I took advantage of this deal when it first came out.

Dreamscape seems very, very dated today.

Assault on Precinct 13 still hold up rather well considering it's age and lineage. There is a Q & A bonus feature on this DVD which I thought was pretty good despite very low production values (Q&A was held at some Comicon if I remember correctly).

The only downside that I can see to acquiring this 2 pack is that they are labeled as "Promotional DVDs.... not to be sold separately) which caused a problem when I tried to sell them to Second Spin.COM. They were returned / refused because they "were not in original packaging".

Putting the UPC of the 2pack in the add dvd space of DVDPro and then previewing the title, it lists the box set contents. The UPC for the dvds listed are for the SE of both movies.

Dreamscape, even though it's the SE version, has still apparently been edited according to the reviews on Amazon.com. I can't believe they'd edit out scenes, then release it as an SE. The original version was awesome.

Actually, the people claiming that this is 'edited' are wrong -- they are just used to watching the open matte version on VHS. That version shows more breasts during a few scenes, but the widescreen DVD accurately reflects what was shown theatrically. It isn't edited.

I saw this in the theater and can confirm that everything is fine. In fact, I can specifically remember renting the VHS tape in the mid-80s (with the same person I saw this with in the theater) and both of us noticing the additional nudity that was now visible.

Dreamscape is a really good, fun movie (and a steal for the $4 or so it'll cost in this 2-pack). Certainly not on my all-time favorites list, yet it has been re-watched more than once. In fact, I picked up an extra copy to stick in the guest room... and I've had more than one guest give it a spin as well.

The DVD has less boob time!
Forget it then!
It should be the other way around.

You could be right. I used to have the fool-screen version on VHS, and what you said makes sense. When I get a couple bucks to check out the DVD version, I'd be able to tell for sure. You got a guest room??? Cool!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

I read this thread when it was bumped up but held off for some reason. After seeing Assault at WalMart in the bin, only not being the SE, made me think of this again, so last week I ordered this set from DDD, and I recently got it in the mail.

Thanks a lot OP!

Any idea why they decided to pack these 2 movies together? They really have nothing in common.
