October 2025 Horror Comic Reading Challenge

It’s that time again!
No set plans yet, other than to hit 100. It’ll probably be mostly stuff in my library on the Marvel and DC apps.

Nice banner!
I plan to read some stuff that I need to get rid of and will post them here as I go.

Marvel just re-released the Tomb of Dracula Vol. 1 omnibus after being out of print for many years.

Volumes 2 and 3 are still out of print. Honestly, Marvel's current publishing strategy is so hard for collectors I have a difficult time recommending them if you want full omnibus runs.

Re: October 2025 Horror Comic Reading Challenge
Off to a very slow start this year, my free time has been pretty much all movies all the time.
But today I opened my monthly comic box and read three of the new Halloween issues.
Bought a couple of the 25-pack Trick or Read packs to hand out with candy to kids at Halloween. The Marvel offering was Godzilla vs Fantastic Four. The dialogue was a bit too goofy and the art from JR Jr was crap, but I still enjoyed seeing Godzilla in the Marvel universe again. Looking forward to reading the rest of the Godzilla vs series this month.
The other pack comic was Nocturnals: The Sinister Path issue 1. Nocturnals always seemed like a series right up my alley, but I don’t think I’ve actually read any of the previous comics yet. Probably would have liked the story more if I had read past stuff, but it was decent, and I enjoy Brereton’s art.
DC’s annual Halloween anthology this year is called Zatannic Panic! and it was excellent. Short stories featuring Zatanna, Batman, Plastic Man, Demon, Raven, Swamp Thing & Constantine, Warlord, and Ambush Bug. Some of my favorite characters there. Enjoyed each story, but the highlight for me was the Plastic Man one written by Daniel Warren Johnson and drawn by Riley Rossmo.
Now I’m reading the second hardcover collection in that Universal Monsters series from Image, Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives!
Heading to a comic convention this weekend, so my quest for 100 this month won’t really begin until the 20th, but I think I’ll make it. Finally reading all of Harrow County will be a big chunk of that.

I'll likely attempt to read my DCeased omnibus which I haven't cracked open yet. I've heard good things.

I haven't done so well as I have been trying to max my free time watching movies this year more than anything though that AVP Omnibus was pretty packed.

3. Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans (comic book adaptation of the 2009 film)
4. Archie Vs. Predator (Issues #1-4)
5. Aliens Vs. Predator Omnibus Volume 1 (includes complete series of Aliens Vs. Predator / Blood Time / Duel / War / Eternal / Old Secrets / The Web)

Read all of Harrow County, mostly in the wonderful oversized hardcover Library editions. An excellent story with truly beautiful art, and great ‘special features’ in both the single issues and the collections.
Think I'll hit 100 before dawn, then will sleep for 24 hours and post later in the week.

Re: October 2025 Horror Comic Reading Challenge
My rush to get my count to 100 went like this:
October 1st thru 15th - zero
16th - 4
17th thru 21st - still 4
22nd - 8
23rd thru 28th - still 8
29th - 25
30th - 49
31st - 103
Very little sleep those last few days, but the OCD kicked in and had to get to 100, in addition to our film challenge subset and a couple theater screenings.
Had to flex my rules a bit and count OGNs as 20 pages per issue, and that last day purposely choose 20ish ‘kid’ comics because they read quickly. Was even reading those in the theater during the trailers and breaks between films.

I actually started the Knight Terrors omnibus instead of DCeased. I'm saving that one now when I have more free time. Knight Terrors is okay with some fantastic variant covers.
