How did they get away with BM and Supes on the cover (even if it looks like it is supposed to be two normal Joes in their costumes)?

Looked this up since I was curious. This was previously Marvel Preview, changed to magazine sized.

If I recall, this issue was color and comic sized, as opposed to the earlier B&W magazine sized issues and was the last issue published (the format change was probably a last ditch effort to avoid cancellation). I'm pretty sure the store where I bought it (a local pharmacy where I bought most of my comics at that age, before we got a real comic book store in the town next to us) actually had it in the magazine rack, as with the previous issues, as opposed to on the comic spinner rack. Although it was in a comic book format, it wasn't code approved, same as the magazines weren't, which probably prompted the "Not for Kiddies" cover blurb. I really don't remember much about the interior at all, but that Joe Jusko painted cover is great. Actually I just looked up the series and all the covers look really nice, and there are issues with the X-Men, Elektra, Black Widow, Thor, etc. I might try to put together a set, there were only 10 issues.

I am having trouble uploading the image, but there is a DC Holiday Special Cover that belongs on this thread. The Special includes what I think is an early example of Frank Miller art for D.C. Comics, and Jonah Hex is one of the characters in the special (which is the only reason I bought this comic many years ago on eBay, after learning it had a Jonah Hex appearance). If someone wants to throw that cover up on this thread that would be much appreciated. Okay, the cover is DC Special Series 21 (says Super Star Holiday Special on cover), and yup...contains Frank Miller art.

"The World's Greatest Adventure Character" doesn't have much pizazz to it. :lol: I'm guessing that the term "superhero" had not been coined yet.
