Was curious after seeing Ditko's signature, and checked the Price Guide. This was Ditko's first published cover.

Yep, The Thing is a famous pre-code horror comic mainly because of the Ditko art and covers (which are great!). I bought the hardcover collected editions of the series, but they were just average at best (I guess I'm spoiled by EC's pre-code horror comics, nothing else comes close).

Wow nice, I've seen some original uncensored EC covers (including the infamous Vault of Horror #32) but have never seen this one, and I've been a big EC geek since I was a teen.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day
Okay, not the most exciting Jonah Hex cover, but this is probably one of my all-time favorite Jonah Hex stories. Believe the cover hype, not just one of the more incredible shoot-out sequences in a Hex comic, but in many a comic book title. Just a really flipping cool shootout that if done correctly in a show/film would be one that would get you talking about how cool it was. I put a spoiler tag up because of the size of the image.
Spoiler:
ETA: This is from my personal collection. Hard to believe this comic came out in 1980 and is now over 40(!) years old. It is in great condition, as there was a period of time when I could afford to chase down better condition copies of Jonah Hex issues that I already owned. |
Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day
Can you post the images of the shoot out pages?

This Ed Hannigan/Dick Giordano cover for JONAH HEX #87 has always been a favorite.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day
That is a wonderfully spooky Sub-Mariner cover.
Also, yes...nice Jonah Hex cover will travel. Regarding the request to post some interior shoot out scene pages, I was hoping to avoid doing the work of carefully opening my copy to take some photos by finding a digital copy on-line that I could purchase and then just copy some page screenshots into this thread, but it looks like the original Bronze Age run of Jonah Hex is not on Comixology/Amazon Digital yet (at least I could not find a copy to legally download). I hope to get to this task one of these days. |
