Comics, Records, CDs & Tapes
Been wanting to start this thread for a while to see we can start doing a list of comic book related records, CDs and tapes. This list can include anything from Power Records to comic book artists that did artwork for the cover of a record/cd/cassette to soundtracks of comic book movies to comic books that have records in them like Hip Hop Family Tree, Dark Nights Metal and What's the Furthest Place from Here.
Let's start with the Marvel Golden Records, which reprinted Amazing Spider-Man 1, Avengers 4, Journey into Mystery 83 and Fantastic Four 1. These records included the first reprints for each issue which were almost exact replicas of the real deal with the exception of not having a price on the front cover. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...921784f284.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...640598a5c2.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...d1435a256c.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...ff49ff6826.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...abaabb099f.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...caca3de058.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...188400b5d7.jpg |

My copy is in a closet at the moment, but here’s one of my favorites.

Re: Comics, Records, CDs & Tapes
I knew The Way It Began from Power Records before I ever read the actual origin story of the FF. I know I also had Captain America and the Hulk.

Re: Comics, Records, CDs & Tapes
I barely had any idea who Batman even was when Batman: The Catwoman's Revenge from Power Records somehow came into my possession as a young child. I think my parents got it for me at a rummage sale because the cover enticed me.:D I played it over and over on my little Fisher-Price record player.

Re: Comics, Records, CDs & Tapes
Becky Cloonan did a cover for a Clutch album:

Kaluta has done covers for "Nativity in Black" (Black Sabbath tribute album) and Glenn Danzig's "Black Aria": https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...bb87f8b1d9.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...952c935aed.jpg And Molly Hatchet famously used Frank Frazetta's "Death Dealer" for the cover art of their debut album: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...8302048287.jpg And Frazetta again shows up on Nazareth's "Expect No Mercy" LP: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...a4a578d4f2.jpg |
Re: Comics, Records, CDs & Tapes
And last but not least, Anthrax's song "I am the Law" is a tribute to Judge Dredd, and the artwork used to promote the song even utilizes some of the imagery:

Re: Comics, Records, CDs & Tapes
I have a copy of that I bought in college in the 90s for $1, just because of the cover.

I, or more parents, got rid of a lot of these before I became a hoarder. I’ve found a few for cheap since then, hopefully they’ll sate the nostalgic urges and I won’t buy more. |

Speaking of music with comics, anyone reading the current Image series, What’s the Furthest Place From Here?
https://imagecomics.com/comics/serie...lace-from-here I really enjoyed the first issue. |

Re: Comics, Records, CDs & Tapes
I had a really grimdark (for the 80s) Superman record and comic combo. It was about Lex making Superman have nightmares and he had to find the machine or something.

I've got a Power Records T-Shirt. I was a huge fan back in the 70's.
I had the Incredible Hulk At Bay, The Fantastic Four The Way It Began, Captain America Phoenix story, and I believe there was a Spider-Man Man Wolf comic/record, too, that I had. Then I had some 12" Power Records (Batman, Six Million Dollar Man, etc). I spent many afternoons listening to those. |

Re: Comics, Records, CDs & Tapes
I had several Power Records and loved them as a kid. I listened to them enough to warp the records. For some reason, this is the one I had that I remember the most.
https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rH6qXK-G5...adhatter01.gif Funny this topic came up. I recently discovered an awesome Power Records podcast a couple of months ago. The hosts play the entire record/story and then discuss it. Very entertaining and a great way to hear several that I always wanted as a kid but never got to hear. And they usually have some fun commentary along with it. https://open.spotify.com/episode/1MM...a49b3db2df4d1d or The Power Records Podcast – The Fire and Water Network (fireandwaterpodcast.com) https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.75yBaX...=0&o=5&pid=1.7 I also just found this guy who did his own book about Power Records and ordered on Friday. He actually has two other books about the old Ben Cooper Halloween costumes and Wax Wrappers that I ordered as well since all the subjects were right up my alley.
