Many have closed but others were able to get the PPP loans when the pandemic hit. Many have started doing sales on Facebook Live, which has help as well as selling through eBay, Amazon, etsy and other sites.

Not having any ticket sales for 2 straight years on CC is going to be brutal. I mean they put on 2 cons per year. And those YouTube panels barely drew any buzz, especially since they were all pre-recorded.

San Diego Comic Con 2021 is officially cancelled

San Diego Comic Con will have a special edition in person event Thanksgiving weekend. They’re hoping with vaccinations that in person event will be possible in 8 months. I know most of you here don’t live in CA, so this news is pretty meaningless. But it’s a realistic goal.

At the same time is kinda stupid. Why move it to that holiday weekend? Most creators, or anyone in particular, wants to be working a convention on that weekend at all.

Yup as you stated, it's gotten some backlash. Some writers and creators think the scheduling sucks. Many people couldn't spend Thanksgiving last year with their families, so they think the timing is bad.

Yeah, that is stupid. It's not only a holiday weekend (and the pandemic forced most people to skip that holiday last year), but also a big shopping weekend.

Why not the first or second weekend in November?

They'll be forced to change it. Not only aren't comic book creators going to this one in November, but also, celebrities aren't going to attend to promote whatever projects the studios want them to. In addition, getting hotels for SDCC is hard, even worse is trying to find hotels during a holiday weekend.

My guess is the convention center had an open weekend and reached out to SDCC saying “We’ll give you a really good rate if you put something on.

Talent and studios think this is a dumb idea to have a Thanksgiving show.

This is not going to happen, or at least, the organizers are going to see the hard truth that no one will show up.
