Re: Rumor: MAD Magazine to Cease Publication
I've been subscribed for a couple years. It has definitely gone down hill since the move and the restarting of the numbering. Way too much political humor, not enough good parody or satire anymore.
I have a number of books - the Complete Don Martin, 1000 Mad Pages to Read before You Die, a ton of the old paperbacks, and Totally Mad CDRom from about 20 years ago.
My next door neighbor and I, as kids, had the same stack of mags we'd garage sale to each other every few months.
It's not the same but I'll still miss it.

One of the things about last night's DC Comics bloodbath is that Mad Magazine is effectively done. I hear we are going to get a press release either later tonight or tomorrow morning but according to the reports and rumors I've heard, Mad Magazine is being shut down completely and the issue that just came out today will be the last.

Re: Rumor: MAD Magazine to Cease Publication
My MAD Magazine subscription through Groupon/Blue Dolphin just expired and it seems that Groupon is not longer offering the $4/$5 deal to subscribe. Also, just learned that MidtownComics is the company that is now distributing Mad Magazine for subscribers on behalf of DC Comics.

Mad magazine lost its luster when they started allowing regular ads and started printing on good paper instead of the pulpy style for which it was known. It was a staple of my life from age 10-19, and I thumbed through an issue in 2005, and it just wasn't the same.

Wouldn't the reprints of the old magazines on the new good-quality paper be a good thing? As in, these reprints won't turn yellow and crumble with age as those old issues did, to be lost forever??
It's been so long since I've read MAD, I didn't even know they started printing on good-quality paper -- presumably acid-free, which is GREAT!
The bad thing is the ads! But, the good quality paper is a godsend.
