Daniel Clowes Appreciation Thread

Any fans here of the influential "underground" comic artist Daniel Clowes?

Re: Daniel Clowes

I remember really liking his Lloyd Llewelyn back in the day, but I didn't keep up with his stuff. Your thread title scared me that he died or something.

Oh, and welcome to the forum! What brought you and made you make your first post?

I actually signed up two weeks ago -- it took that long to get my mod approval. Today when I signed in I was doing another "test" to see if I was able to post yet and blurted out this thread!

I'm a big Clowes fan. Love his weird early work. Like a Velvet Glove. I'm looking for a nice active entertainment forum. IMBD was fun and fast, but it closed a month after I joined (not my fault!).

That was my first thought on seeing the thread title. I gave a big, "Uh oh."

I was a huge fan of Clowes work from the late 90s to early 2000s. Eightball consistently put out some of the best comics I read during that era. I thought he was really doing terrific stuff when he moved away from the anthology format, and made each issue focus on a specific story (Ice Haven, The Death Ray.)

I haven't been as enamoured with his recent efforts. I didn't care for Mr. Wonderful, and I thought that Wilson really crapped out after a terrific beginning. I haven't read his latest book.

The Ghost World movie is a strange beast. I really dislike how the movie shut-out Rebecca so it could focus on Enid and Seymour. Art School Confidential turned out real messy too.

Another cartoonist I keep wondering about his Chris Ware. I think it's been almost a decade since the last chapter of the Rusty Brown story. Is he not doing that anymore?

Re: Daniel Clowes

^^^ I had the same thought just seeing his name. I'm glad it isn't what we were thinking.

Re: Daniel Clowes

I think we all thought the thread was announcing Clowes was dead or seriously ill.

Re: Daniel Clowes Appreciation Thread

I put in a thread title change request. Thanks Geofferson or fellow mod!
