That's absolutely horrible news to wake up to.
Absolutely loved his work. He could do funny and gross and heartbreaking with equal skill, and often at the same time. There was a clarity to his storytelling that made his panels flow like film, and his characters' faces were so expressive that writers didn't need thought bubbles or captions to tell us what they were thinking.

I met him once at Wizard World Chicago in 2000. I think I still have the issue of Preacher that I had him and Ennis sign. I asked him if he was doing sketches, and he said not that day, but he would do one for me if I came back the next day. Sadly, I had to leave that night.
I usually read comics based on the writers, but he was an artist who could get me to pick up a book.
