DC 2016 mini-series lineup with classic writers returning

I'm definitely in for some new Len Wein and Marv Wolfman stories of the characters. Heck, who am I kidding? I'll eventually own all of these via dollar bin or digital sales.

Len Wein on Swamp Thing and Metal Men
Marv Wolfman on Raven
Gerry Conway on Firestorm
Mike Barr on Katana

This is the first thing I thought of. I'm still reading (struggling) through the Convergence minis, but some of the appeal is that there are a lot of old-school DC writers/artists on it that I haven't seen in some time.

Of course, that all goes out the window when you realize they're all just setup to fight each other Super Smash Bros. style for absolutely no reason. Can someone who's read this explain to me why we have these alternate universes that were somehow stuck in time? For some reason my bundle didn't come with the actual Convergence issues...

Marv Wolfman hasn't written a decent comic since 1985. God knows he's tried. The last time he tried to write Raven and Nightwing, it was an embarrassment.

A Super-Braniac collected a bunch of cities from various timelines throughout DC history and placed them on a planet that exists outside of time. Each city is trapped under a dome and it's super-inhabitants de-powered. Super-Braniac has a lackey named Telos who decides to open the domes to let the inhabitants fight for some reason. Seriously. There is no real reason given.

It also ties-in with the finale of Earth 2 and Crisis on Infinite Earths. Plus, an old Warlord villain becomes the big bad at the end.

I already mentioned this on the forum somewhere but DC completely missed the mark with Convergence. "Remember all those characters you loved and thought you'd never see again? Well, they're back. And they're fighting to the death!!!"

I'll be honest. It isn't necessarily their fault, but I basically preordered the convergence tie ins (all of them) to check out what DC was doing with nostalgia, and it's so bad that I don't think I'm going to buy anything in single issue form from DC for a while. What makes it worse is that all of these books are cover priced at 3.99. Of course I didn't pay cover price, but that's ridiculous, who in their right mind feels like this is worth it?

I really like the recent CONVERGAGE: SWAMP THING mini by Len Wein and Kelly Jones.
So, I'm in for more Swampy by Wein.
