I'm in. I'll be almost all Hellboy/BPRD. Do Astounding Wolfman and Walking Dead count?

I'm super lax on counting rules, but those seem very appropriate and I'm sure even a stickler wouldn't argue. Monster movies generally count in the film challenge so monster books should count here.

I don't see why something with werewolves, vampires and zombies wouldn't count. Hell, If I read a Johnny Boo comic to my daughter I'll probably include it on my list.

Walking Dead should be one of the poster children for this challenge, and I think AWM would count as well. I think both series are worth reading, so there's that too.

Casper the Friendly Ghost should count as well!

Oh yeah, I hope to find some Casper to read! I think one of those recent dollar store CD-Rom compilations was Harvey stuff.

If anyone is looking to read some horror short stories during the month, this decent looking huge anthology just went free for your Kindle app or device.

Re: The First Annual DVDTalk Horror Comic Book Challenge - 2014

Began October with the first two issues of Justice League Dark. I was a huge fan of Peter Milligan's Shade The Changing Man back in the 90s. His style hasn't changed too much. These first two issues brought back a lot of good memories. A bit sad how he handled Shade's relationship with Kathy. I'm also surprised that the Dove/Deadman relationship from Brightest Day continued into the New52.

Good start. Looking forward to reading the next couple of issues.

I was looking forward to checking out the first volume for awhile, but had to wait on it for a bit, so it was a bit of a letdown. I definitely liked the assortment of characters and the general premise of the series though, so I am looking forward to checking out the second volume this weekend.

Re: The First Annual DVDTalk Horror Comic Book Challenge - 2014

Justice League Dark makes me think that perhaps this entire reality is just a dream and that none of you really exist. It's my potentially 'perfect' book. From the age of 5, my two favorite comic book things have been the Justice League and DC's magic/horror characters. In my decades of collecting my main focuses have been obtaining every issue of JLA and every appearance of characters like Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Phantom Stranger, the Demon, etc. I've always wanted a team book for them.

That said, I'm almost scared to read the series. If it sucks my dream will be over. I did enjoy the first six issues or so, but fell behind in all my recent DC reading.

The Vampire Trilogy elseworlds tale for Batman would make an excellent choice in this contest, starting with Red Rain. I can't remember exactly but one of the three in that trilogy is far worse than the other two.

If we are talking the spookier side of DC, I recommend everyone check out the 25-issue team book, Shadowpact.

Total issues read so far: 13

Previous reading:

Only had time to read JL Dark #3 last night. Will probably plow through the last 3 issues over the weekend and move onto the Batman/Vampire trilogy.

I myself wouldn't have a problem with you posting daily. A little easier to follow than going back to your original post.

Cool, I'll go for that. If we get to the point where there are dozens of people participating I might reevaluate.

Re: The First Annual DVDTalk Horror Comic Book Challenge - 2014

I'm woefully behind of my initial thoughts of how many I'd read; been too busy watching horror films. But if work is slow today I'll try to read a few things online.

Started my Man-Thing omnibus the other day, but nothing else yet.

Edit to add: lots of #1s from Comixology sales

Re: The First Annual DVDTalk Horror Comic Book Challenge - 2014

There's references to the (I think it's called) Plague of Frogs storyline from Hellboy early on in BPRD. Other than that it's pretty new reader friendly. At least from what I can remember.
