Re: Marvel to announce new title on the View 11am EST
Yeah, it's just a new female Thor in the comics. Nothing really exciting at all.

Earlier this month we learned that we’d be getting an all-new Captain America, but on ABC’s The View earlier today news broke that Marvel is also replacing another core Avenger: Thor. As announced by Whoopi Goldberg, Marvel is introducing a new female Thor in comics later this year.
“It’s a huge day in the Marvel Universe. Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up, and he’s no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. For the first time in history, that hammer is being held by a woman. That’s right. Thor is a woman!”
Details on the identity of this new Thor remain sparse. Goldberg jokingly said that the character works on the set of The View in comics when not being Thor. The comedienne did say more matter-of-factly that the new Thor modeled herself after the original after being saved by him. The View co-host goes on to say that she becomes the possessor of Mjolnir after the original Thor becomes no longer worthy according to the inscription.

They act as if we've never had an all new Captain America or a female Thor before. Wrong on both accounts, Marvel just wasn't as big of a deal in pop culture the last time these things happened.

Apropos of nothing, I'd really like to see Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lawrence in an action film together or, better yet, an update of something noirish, like SLIGHTLY SCARLET, which had Rhonda Fleming and Arlene Dahl in it almost 60 years ago.

Something I just thought of is that Jason Aaron's current run on the Thor book bounces all around the timeline. It goes from 800 AD with a very young Thor in the Viking Age to thousands of years into the future with a very old Allfather Thor. So this new female Thor may be anywhere in that timeline and not affect the "modern" Thor at all.

Marvel's set to announce something on the Colbert Report tonight. Bleeding Cool is speculating it's going to be that Falcon is taking over as Captain America.

Marvel is clearly trying to capture a female fan base for their line of movies. They have been positioning the female Captain Marvel in the comics and future movies as a heavy hitter, I guess in a hope to push something out before DC finally releases a Wonder Woman movie.
I still haven't understood why DC so easily let them take over that name and brand (I know of the entire legal history, so please no Internet lawyers) for what is turning into a big multimedia push by Marvel.

Yep, that is what happened. Was this worth an announcement on Colbert? I don't think so but Disney obviously did.

Notice the 'S' is missing in second to last image but obviously added to the last. Almost looks like a bad paste job.

I get that. I'm just pointing out that there appears to be a square like a bad copy/paste job.

There have been many rumors that this Time Runs Out event is going to lead into Marvel's first ever reboot. So maybe this will be Marvel's COIE.

I can promise you that Disney is likely behind that move. They need to seed in the minds of Marvel's fans that there are alternate gender and ethnic versions of these characters in other realities. While they've stuck pretty closely with the classic identities of each superhero so far in the movies, they are itching to eventually change that tradition. The corporations owning Marvel and DC are now mandating these changes in the comics, ahead of the time they get used in later films.
I have to say that image does look cool.
