I'm the same way. If I lost my whole collection, I wouldn't bother replacing it. I'd probably force myself to go digital or give up reading comics all together.
I mentioned this to my wife once and she jokingly replied "Where are the matches?" |

I can't stand digital comics. I have tried them, but I just don't like them at all. So if I lost my collection, I would just quit reading completely.

Re: Think you have a large comic book collection? Think again.
Love comics on the iPad, but only for comics I don't buy for flipping or collecting (GA and SA).
After moving three times in the past decade, it really made me wonder why I have so much physical media. Got rid of so many Trades and GN's and paired down 3 long boxes into one short box. DVD's and CD's have long been downloaded and sold. |

Re: Think you have a large comic book collection? Think again.
I know it makes me a terrible luddite, but I just can't stand digital media. I like the idea of buying a comic I can read forever, not a license I can use for as long as Comixology stays in business and doesn't change the terms.

I like to frequently re-read old books, re-watch old movies/TV shows, and re-play old video games. I'm not a once and done kind of person. So not actually owning the product and just owning a license is not for me at all. I can safely have assurance that barring a flood or fire or tornado or whatever I will still own all my printed comics 20-30 years from now. There is no such assurance that Comixology will still be around then. |

As of today, I have officially hit 14,000 comics.
That is all. |

How many long boxes is that?
Honestly, I lost track. I'll have to head upstairs to count at some point. |

A general rule is that a longbox holds 250-300 comics, but this changes depending on things like page count, paper thickness, bags, boards, and how tightly you want to pack the boxes. |
Re: Think you have a large comic book collection? Think again.
I have most of my collection in Drawer Boxes which are a bit smaller than normal long boxes. I think they hold 200-220.

Damn, I'm jealous of his collection and I'm currently close to 75k! but I don't have the huge collection of statues or toys that he does.
My goal this year is to finally convert over to the drawer boxes and make the media/storage room that I keep my collection in more presentable and purty. |

That is all. I was right at that total until three years ago. before moving for the forth time in 5 years and because we needed money towards a house I sold about 9500 of them. Wish I didn’t have to do it. I really miss having them . But it was a huge process to move them and the house was too small for them. Wasn’t going to pay to store them. Kept important stuff like everything Spider-Man Bats and Supes and a few others. |
Re: Think you have a large comic book collection? Think again.
A little over 5 months later, I'm at 14,519. Curious to see if I can hit 15,000 within a year.
One of our kids just moved out in June so I'm in the process of upgrading to a larger room. |
Re: Think you have a large comic book collection? Think again.
Well. It took a smidgen under a year but as of yesterday, I hit 15,000 comics. I probably would have done it a lot sooner if not for Covid. There was a two month gap of not buying any new comics plus zero comic conventions to attend for awhile.

As of today, I have 36,684 comics. My wife is very tolerant :)

Fortunately my wife puts up with this vice of mine :)
