No. More like .80¢ ish each for everything. $4 a pound at 5ish pounds was over $20 with tax.
I really need to find stores like some of you have. My local stores might have one of two dollar boxes if I'm lucky. How do you organize/database your books Vale? |

If you ever come to Los Angeles, I have such sights to show you! I organize by company first then alphabetically. I keep imprints with the main company. DC A to Z - Milestone A to Z - Vertigo A to Z Marvel A to Z - Marvel Knights A to Z - New Universe A to Z I also have a Misc. section for companies I only have 10 books or less for (like Caliber Press). To keep track of everything, I created a catalogue system in File Maker back in the mid-90s (before things like CollectorZ were available) and have been using it ever since. http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...pse3119825.png There's a NOTES section to keep track of alternate types of numbering (like #0, -1, ∞ and one million) and any other information. It's not pretty but it's better than the physical card system I had before this. |
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
I should have started this in our cataloging thread, but I really really need to do something. Humor me just this one rant.
I love my physical Comic Book Checklist and Price Guide. http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps07e77330.jpg I ignore the prices but it has almost every comic from 1961 to 2000 listed, with easy to use check marks next to each issue number. I'd carry that book with me to shops, or the computer, and easily know exactly what I have and 'need'. My few comics owned that weren't in the book (older titles and a few obscure series) I would just write in the appropriate area margins. Well, even though I now own the updated 2010 book (that was the last one they made) I'm pretty sure that I need to move on to something digital. There just isn't a font small enough to list every issue number of every book published in a book small enough to carry around. So I guess I'm retiring my fond Checklist, and never even used the 2010 one, I just wrote in newer books in my 2000. It would be great to use a full featured website database or program like CollectorZ, for the simpler entry of my 12,000 or so books, but I'm worried about another DVDSpot scenario. So I think I want a simple system like your's, but with an easy to note way of differentiating between floppies, digital, and collected-in-trade issues. I'm so darn lazy though. I need a clone willing to stay home and work while I work to pay the bills. I'm thinking of a google doc spreadsheet with a few columns (title, publisher, issue numbers, digital vs single vs trade, and notes for special storyline or guest stars). But wow, that would take at least a few hours per long box I'm sure, and I have 40 or 50. Rant off. I think I'll cut and paste this to the more appropriate thread and mine it for ideas again. |
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
If you bump that thread (I believe I posted my little set up there as well way back when), I'll follow up with my comments there.

And to get back on topic, I just bought Action #900; it's on sale at Comixology. They'll have to switch back to the old numbering when they get to #1000, right? Wait, does digital count in these "last" threads? |
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
NO!
(Just kidding). Action Comics #1000 - It depends on what's going on at DC at the time. I thought they'd switch to #900 for Detective Comics #19 last year but they didn't (tho they did a double-sized story featuring The 900). It's a shame to ignore historic numbering but it's the age we live in now. |
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
my local shop has the dungeon with like 30-40 long boxes of random stuff mostly pre 52 dc and up to house of M marvels they sell for five to fifty cents and issue. they keep em organized too so you can easily grab full runs.
another shop has 15-25$ depending on the sale to fill a short box. anyways today i picked up American Vampire Anthology one shot JL Europe #1-10 Aquaman and the others 2 Miracleman 5 Veil 3 batman eternal Futures end 1 |

That's it, I'm taking a roadtrip to visit Andrew, terry, and their stores.
And I agree with Phantom, that early JL Europe run was fun. Hey Phantom, I used the 50% off sale Saturday to buy your recent full run. Am I looking forward to reading them, or is it like most of the new DC? |

Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
From Wednesday's new releases:
Batman: Eternal #5 Miracleman #5 Epic #1 Original Sin #1 My shop didn't get the Watcher eyeball. :( Have to track that down now. Also, this week's Satellite Sam release had a retailer incentive of a Tijuana Bible. I hit a couple of stores looking for it but no one had them. Damn it. |
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
^^ Terry, I'm only an hour or two from Hershey and Lancaster. Haven't explored the shops up there, except for a decent-for-a-mall-shop in the Lancaster Mall iirc.

The art is decent and most people have liked the second trade better over the first trade. I am just glad they gave me a monthly series again. |

I bought Forever Evil #4 yesterday. I was at a shop in Virginia that I rarely get to, the guy on duty was talkative and informative, picked up a few FCBD books, so felt obligated to buy a little something. I think it's new and not officially part of FCBD, but there is a new Image sampler freebie in stores apparently. Edit to add: Nevermind, it's from January. |
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
I have a weekly pull-list with my old local shop (in Northridge, CA), however, those books are delivered to me in batches when my family comes up a few times a year for a visit.
The last book that I purchased with my own hands was a gorgeous replacement copy of Jonah Hex (original series) 8. I picked this issue up at the Big Wow show. |
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
I was at the Big Wow show, also. Seems like every year it gets more crowded. I picked these up. I wasn't going to get the Shogun Warriors but for a buck I couldn't pass it up.

Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
I'm thinking I want to track down all those Fatal Five books someday.
|
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
This one is my favorite Fatal Five story. I was skimming through it an noticed that Mike Nassar wasn't credited with doing the artwork on the 2nd part of the story. He was way better than James Sherman. The guy who eventually took over from Grell.

Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
Forgot I had a pull list at my LCBS, so I just went and collected it all. I got:
Sandman Overture SE #1 and #2 Sandman Overture #2 Miracleman #2-#6 The Maxx Maximized #4-#7 |
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
Some of the fun in my $500 Mile High order to get all the FCBD books.

Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
On the way home from work yesterday, I found a new store in Pasadena, CA. Picked up:
http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3abba59b.jpg Super Team Family #4 - $3.00. Giant-Sized reprint title featuring the Golden Age story "The Revenge of Solomon Grundy." http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1ac94cb8.jpg World's Finest #232 - $2.00. As soon as I saw this cover, I remembered owning it as a child. So, immediate re-buy. http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...psffe63c9f.jpg Super-Villain Classics: Galactus - The Origin - $2.00. Been looking for this book for awhile. http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...ps50c4059c.jpg New Teen Titans #1 - $3.00. Missed out on this title when it was first released in the 80s. This copy isn't perfect with slightly yellow pages and a crease down the middle but for 3 bucks I figured what the hell. |
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
DC should really do a modern series with retro-style covers. Why have all covers trended towards being pin-ups with no words?
|
Re: What's the last comic (single issue) you bought?
A bunch of Judge Dredd issues/series ones. I just scooped up Judge Dredd: Anderson #1 from IDW through Comixology.
