Neal Adams' "Batman: Odyssey"
I haven't read this one yet and the collected version is due very soon, so I went looking around for reviews of the series. I figured how much can go wrong with Neal Adams handling Batman, but the following link is the first thing I came across discussing it. It's a deconstruction of the series, but it's hilarious in mocking the comic book. After reading it, is the series really as bad as it is portrayed here?
Some of the mentioned plot almost seems like an in-joke.

I am a huge Neal Adams fan and this by far is the worst thing he did storywise. The plot and the dialogue is just plain bad. He definitely needed a good writer to pull it off. If you just want to look at pretty pictures you won't be disappointed but if you wanted to read a good story this ain't it. I bought the 1st two issues and then dropped it. A friend gave me the rest of the series because he knew I was an Adams fan. Even he got it for free from someone else who thought it was garbage.

See, I wasn't even impressed with the art. I am even less impressed with the art in his First X-Men series coming out now. While I recognize Adams' ability and the contributions he made to comics art in the 60's & 70's, he never made the top of my list of favorite artists. For my money, some of Adams' best art was in:

Considering the guy is insane I'm not surprised the writing was a mess. He operates a website discussing that our entire knowledge of the Earth is wrong since he's certain the Earth is really hollow and expanding. So far he's spent over a 500k producing youtube videos talking about it.

But that issue is Adams' work and its great. Favorite artist is Jack Kirby. More recent guys include Steve Epting & Lee Weeks. Others on the list: Steve Ditko, Matt Wagner, Tim Truman, Jim Aparo, Wally Wood, Will Eisner, and many more.

Good choices. Aparo, Wood, Eisner, Ditko and Kirby are on my list too plus a few other old school artists.

Just got about 6 issues of this series from Baltimore Comic con this weekend, and paid either just 25 cents or 50 cents for each. I do remember reading the first issue released & thinking it wasn't good so I don't have high hopes for this. What is the publishing history though? Some of the issues said (__ of 13) and some were (__ of 6). So I'm thinking that when DC did the New 52 they stopped the 13-issue mini somewhere in the middle and re-started with a new 6-issue mini.
