On the It’s Alive Facebook page, Drew Ford’s wife posted a photo of him in the ICU unresponsive and hooked up to tubes. Haven’t seen any updates in the last couple days.

Edit: Drew has passed away from Covid-related pneumonia.

That's terrible and sad :( His wife Kiki's writeup on the GoFundMe page is heartwrenching.

I'm not sure when I started but comics are about 25% of the projects I've backed on KS.
Currently active ones:
The Complete Giant Days which I think I read through on Comixology Unlimited, but I haven't touched that app since the great reboot debacle, and this series is worth a revisit.
Destiny vol 6 - I just recently received my all-in pack with 1-5 and the spinoffs.
Recently completed or fulfilled -
Plastic Farm - I know nothing about it, it looked cool
Trekker Blood in the Wind - pretty much all in on anything Trekker. Up till recently I had my b/w original Dark Horse issues by my desk.
Red, White and Broke looked fun
Collectors , Love and Capes and Impossible Jones were good finds.
A bunch more but those are recent ones. Another 'genre' that appeals to me is physical copies (or PDF, depending on pricing) of webcomics I used to read.

I'm always looking for some new, interesting comics to check out.

Pricing for crowdfund comics is weird - there are some where PDF copies are 50% or more of the price of the physical, and others where the PDF version is only 5 or 10 bucks. I'll try many things for 5 or 10 bucks, and if the PDF is 60% or more of the physical price, I'll usually go for physical, especially if it comes with the PDF.

There's a documentary about Rocketeer creator Dave Stevens with a Kickstarter live. One of the rewards is a comic written by the film's screenwriters, Paul De Meo and Danny Billson, with art by Adam Hughes.

I was so excited to see this, but was bummed to see that the original art reward sold out almost instantly. I'm still excited for the book, but getting an original Bone piece by Smith, who does not sell his original art, is pretty high on my list of collecting goals and I wonder how many more opportunities I might have. I do have a remarqued hardcover, which is nice, but it's obviously not suitable for display.

I’ve had the old collection of that Thorn strip in my ebay searches for years, never found it in my price range, and now I see it’s in the 10k tier iirc.

I’ll happily get this book instead of the original printing. But I won’t do the Kickstarter, seems light on rewards for the price. Will get it from DCBS someday for about half this price.

The first 3 issues, as well as Burdick's previous self-published works are available as well. I've got them all and the production is top notch. Plus he's a great cartoonist.

This is expensive as crap but looks like an awesome collection. Really pricey if you want all the comics.

Do things like this eventually get mass released for a lot cheaper price? I haven't bought enough comic type stuff off of Kickstarter to know.

That does seem a little pricey, though very cool. I'm probably good on classic horror for now through Humble and Fanatical.

Some things do get released for cheaper, either exactly as is or without some KS exclusive features (for example, the GI Joe ARAH compendia are coming out in paperback much cheaper, but without the bonuses or digital versions; Giant Days Library Editions were 30 each [which is retail], 25 each in the bundle from the project, and now appear to be available for 18-20 each.)
If they do come to regular retail they are usually cheaper and easier to get free shipping.
Some are only available through the publisher for retail or thereabouts, and others, from regular KS creators, are available in future KS projects for cheaper or a better bundle.
Not always of course, though I've seen some KS creators will say in the project if there are future retail plans (though sometimes without specifics).
That one seems very niche and pricey so it may be a coin toss whether it's available after the KS.

Depends on the project. Some do, some don't.

Something like this, I think it's probably unlikely it gets released to the direct market in this form. Maybe some eventual trade paperbacks or hardcovers.

That collection is very tempting, but a $150 entry point is steep. I know I paid more than that for GI Joe, but that was a lot of issues, and I liked the first one I read. Plus it looks similar to a lot of EC archives and Creepy/Eerie that I’ve bought and haven’t read. :)

They’re saying that the spotlight issue, Suspense #3 with the Nazi/klan leader sacrificing the woman, is the “most valuable non-Marvel, non-DC comic of all time,” and I don’t doubt it, but one review said the cover is misleading though the stories were still entertaining. The print-on-demand version of that 54-page comic is US$17.

For a long time I had in my saved for later cart at Amazon. I have a bunch of the recent paperback EC collections and those are easily the gold standard in my eyes, but similar items would pop up on Amazon because of those purchases. I couldn’t really find much about the contents of the Adventures Into Terror book, but I lucked out when the library here made copies available.

I found the stories overwritten and pretty weak throughout. The artwork ran the gamut, typical for the pre-code era, and the reproduction quality was nice. But overall outside of their historical significance they pale in comparison to the EC stuff, so I’m glad I didn’t fork over for a new copy.

When I saw this Kickstarter in one of their eblasts, it was tempting because of those lurid covers, the box, etc, but the price is insane. Fifteen bucks a book (more in the other versions? And the fact that all of them appear to date from the exact same era as the Adventure Into Terror comics, I can’t help but think they’ll be exactly the same in terms of barely delivering what’s on the covers. I’m sure back in the day they were all the rage because they were pushing the envelope, but there are much better representatives of the era available these days, which make me comfortable sticking with the more affordable (on sale) EC reprints for a few more rounds.

Good post and I appreciate the info and opinion.

I have all the Creepys, Eeries and lots of others like those digitally and always find the majority to be weak sauce as far as stories go. The art is usually decent, but the stories can be seriously dumb. Like 3rd grade level reading dumb. Fun when I was that age or a little older but not so much as an old-ass adult now.

Your post was definitely what I was considering. For maybe half the price, I would pull the trigger just because they would be so neat, but I can't imagine paying a grand for all the books and then being disappointed in the majority of the stories. And if the art sucks, then double whammy. These are probably digitized somewhere and will be in the future so I will just wait on that.

I have been trying to clear out a lot of my books because you can only read so many, and I have too many. :lol:

Yes, 4.5 inches like Super Powers. I have figures from the first wave, and they fit in well together.
