Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

A new Groupies Dynamite bundle.

A lot of incomplete stories and duplicates from previous bundles, so not sure if it's worth it -

$1.00 Minimum Tier offers a a fabulous value with 25 issues of some iconic reads including: Red Sonja #1 (2016), Swords of Sorrow #1, Vampirella #1 (2016) and Amanda Hocking's The Hollows: A Hollowland Graphic Novel.

$5.00 Minimum Tier features 21 more great comic reading including: Bob's Burgers #4 and #5, Mocking Dead Vol 1, Train Called Love #1, Sherlock Holmes #1, Smosh #1, Swords of Sorrow #2-#6 and Vampirella v Dracula #1.

$15 Minimum Tier includes 40 more awesome comics including: Shaft: A Complicated Man, Red Sonja: One More Day, A Train Called Love #2 and #3, Sherlock Holmes #2-#5, The Twilight Zone: Shadow & Substance #1-#4 and Dead Irons Collection.

At least there's a free preview tier of this bundle, a nice addition. I might consider using my Groupees coins and getting one of the physical tiers.

If I ran Comixology, I'd give away the second issue of everything for free. I imagine a fair amount of people would then buy the first issues.

I'm officially giving up on these Dynamite bundles for no reason other than the fact that I've spent too many hours trying to keep track of all of the various Red Sonja series and what I own and I refuse to spend a minute more.

At full price? No way. It'd be added to my backlog but I probably wouldn't touch most of them unless they had a sale.

I mentioned this in the fantasy challenge, but I have three of those Dynamite bundles plus some random TPBs, and I had a real problem trying to keep them all straight. I did read all the digital ones then found that they duplicated one or two TPBs I already had. I enjoyed them, but am boycotting any future purchases for a while.

With your OCD, you know you'd never read those second issues, and with your bargain-hunting, you'd never buy the first ones.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Jeff Lemire sale, which is tempting because I got the first few TPBs of Animal Man but didn't finish it. Also intrigued by the Legion issues.

Also Spider-Man collections

I've never paid full price. But I think we're in the strong minority on that 'rule'.

I'm trying my best to boycott non-Comixology bundles too.

You definitely got me there! But I think the normal public is different. I think a certain percentage of people would buy the first issue to get a two issue test of the title; the people that don't buy anything because of the freebie weren't going to buy it anyway, so giving away issue #2 won't hurt the bottom-line in my silly theory.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

I dunno if you give away issue 1, I'll read it and maybe like it enough to get it in some form. If you give me issue 2, I'm not reading it until I get issue 1 (unless each issue is stand alone or something).

Image actually discounts the first trade of each series with a similar thought process, though it's also true that the first issue/volume is the most bought one and you're losing out on sales.

Got two coupons from Comixology today $5 off $15 and $10 off $30 Image books. Not as good as the half off sales, but ok for something you want to read now.

I got an Image code too; it's good until the middle of September so might be worth waiting for an overlapping sale.

Fantastic Four on $0.99 sale through #125. Some of this stuff is desert-island fare for me. I know I was still reading those triple-digit issues but should check my Showcase copies to see how well they hold up.

I just got an email for 30% off a Comixology order of $15 or more. It's good through the end of August. You might want to check your email.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

No coupon but as it turns out, the FF sale ended yesterday anyway.

The thought of wanting to pick up even 20 consecutive issues has me thinking I should at least consider Marvel Unlimited. I kind of like owning, though, and the 15% off purchases doesn't appear to work with bundles and sales, which is what I'd most likely be using it for.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

I got a coupon as well. I used it for all the independent stuff that never goes on sale. Got quite the haul, but the website was so slow for me. You can only use the coupon once, so make sure you grab what you want the first time.

I'll take the opportunity to pitch Marvel Unlimited. While the idea of owning is nice in theory, you don't really own the Marvel stuff you buy from Comixology. You're just buying a license to read the books. That being the case, there isn't really much of a difference between the two services. MU has its issues (pun intended!), but it's saved me piles of money and allows me to read stuff I know and love as well as stuff I'd never otherwise buy.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Hmmm, ~$70 a year to read every Marvel comic times 30 more years of life (hopefully) equals $2100, versus the ~$3000 I've already spent on a limited library Marvel digital books. I choose poorly.

Yeah it's to the point where I rarely bother with Comixology Marvel sales because of that.

Yes, the joys of "ownership" in the digital age.

I guess what I'm thinking of is the Marvel site said that you're allowed to download 12 comics (I assume they mean issues) for offline reading, but I do a lot of my reading on vacation on planes and off the grid. In those cases, I'd have to rely on my purchased and physical copies.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Yeah, if reading offline is a necessity, MU isn't the greatest option. That's why I make sure my tablet is loaded up with plenty of stuff for which I have actual files. Between all of the bundles and all of the indie stuff Comixology lets me download, I always have something to read, even if certain books are unavailable at the moment.

I do have plenty of Image and DC to read offline. My last vacation I read a ton of Dynamite that I got from three Humble Bundles.
