Re: DC to publish Watchmen prequel?
putting all the moore stuff and legal things aside for the moment, i love watchmen and am actually pretty excited for the new titles coming out. i dont think i would be if i wasnt already a fan of the creators that are working on it though. i understand where people on both sides of the issue are coming from but the preview art thats been going around has been solid and i want to at least check it out before i hate on it.

The first issue of this series hit today. I see that on Comixology it's $3.99. Do these drop in price after a month or so?

Re: DC to publish Watchmen prequel?
DC just added another Before Watchmen mini.
Can't wait for Before Watchmen: Bubastis and Before Watchmen: Nixon.
DC Comics Announces Before Watchmen: Moloch By JMS And Eduardo Rizzo, And Bill Sienkiewicz Takes Over On Nite Owl
Diana McCallum writes for Bleeding Cool from Fan Expo Canada;
At the Before Watchmen panel at Fan Expo Canada, DC Comics have just announced a new two issue mini-series as part of the Before Watchmen project entitled Before Watchmen: Moloch, by Joe Michael Straczynski and Eduardo Risso. The first issue will appear, as a surprise solicitation, in November, the second to follow in December.
Moloch has already prominently appeared in the Before Watchmen: Comedian series. This does raise the possibility of even more Before Watchmen books to come.
John Cunningham announced that Bill Sienkiewicz will take over inking of Before Watchmen: Nite Owl after the passing away of Joe Kubert.
Brian Azzarello and Darwyn Cooke also verified that the Before Watchmen comics are based solely around the comic book canon and ignore any elements introduced by the film, such as the Comedian assassinating President Kennedy. (Except Sally’s hair. Darwyn took the style straight from the film).
Amanda Conner recommended reading Silk Spectre very closely as she had purposely riddled the book with tons of Watchmen Easter eggs. Issue #3 of Silk Spectre also has a surprise guest that Conner wouldn’t spoil but says it will blow you away (and could possibly happen during an acid trip.)

Oh wait, I actually do know who's worse because DC has actually handled this whole project extremely well by putting some of the best talent in the industry on the books. I've read all 12 issues released so far and have been satisfied at the very least with every issue, with some titles (particularly Minutemen and Ozymandias) being undeniably excellent.
The years will be very kind to this project. When fanboys relent and start reading borrowed trades, pirated copies etc. they'll find that it's not the bastardization that they thought it was.
Ultimately people need to recognize that DC hasn't destroyed their Watchmen books. Worst case scenario: you hate "Before" and you disregard it. Best case? You find that the stories are actually worth reading, and that's been my experience so far.

While they may not be "bastardizations', they are completely unnecessary.
Talent who most likely would've been doing more original and interesting work instead.

nice!
I don't know who's worse: DC for rehashing Watchmen or ignorant fanboys rehashing the same tired "Before Watchmen" jokes from 6 months ago.

Re: DC to publish Watchmen prequel?
Instead of baseless speculation on how "the years" will treat the comic to defend it, you should instead focus on your own opinion, or at least the current opinion of others. There's plenty of favorable reviews out there.
Actually, worst case scenario is that reading the prequels diminishes the opinion/enjoyment of the original. I agree that in an ideal world, any derivative work could be viewed completely separate from the original, but we're not ideal creatures. I still love The Matrix, but I find it hard to watch it now without at least thinking of the sub-par sequels. My enthusiasm for Star Wars dropped exponentially as each prequel was released. So while staying away from the Watchmen prequels because you don't want to taint the memory of the original may be irrational, it's perfectly understandable and reasonable considering we're irrational creatures.

So anyone still reading these? Are they any good? I'm also wondering how sales are holding up...

Whether or not it taints the memory of the original, I have no interest in the prequel because everything you need to know about Watchmen is in Watchmen.

Re: DC to publish Watchmen prequel?
You asked for it. You got it. Yet another Before Watchmen book.
Comic Book Resources
Somehow, Joe Kubert's death has really thrown off the scheduling of these books. The reason DC is doing the Moloch books is for the new Nite Owl inker to catch up. But it's somehow effecting the other titles. Silk Spectre and Comedian are three weeks behind now. And after Moloch #1 is released, there isn't another BW book for two weeks after. And now another one-shot is announced? Sounds like they're trying to fill some scheduling gaps.
WEIN AND RUDE CRAFT "BEFORE WATCHMEN: DOLLAR BILL" ONE-SHOT
DC Comics continues to expend the Before Watchmen line with the announcement of "Before Watchmen: Dollar Bill," a one-shot debuting in late January featuring a story by Len Wein with art by Steve Rude.
In an interview with MTV Geek, Wein, who edited Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' original "Watchmen" in the '80s and is currently writing "Before Watchmen: Ozymandias," explained his plans to fill readers in on the history of one of the less-developed members of the Minutemen. Indeed, Dollar Bill is an unusual hero, even in the Watchmen universe, a college athlete who became the costumed spokesman for a bank while harboring dreams of Hollywood stardom.
"Part of what makes him succeed initially, is that criminals aren't that brave to begin with," Wein said of the character whose most important role in "Watchmen" was his somewhat comical death -- being shot during a robbery after his cape got caught in the bank's revolving door. "They've seen Dollar Bill in the movies kicking ass, and so for those first couple of minutes, they're frozen."
Len Wein and Steve Rude's "Before Watchmen: Dollar Bill" one-shot is slated for a January 29 release.

I noticed the Blu-ray for Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part I has a "trailer" for the Watchmen Prequel comics. So how long before we see the prequel stuff made into a movie or cartoon? Because you know that is where it's going.
