Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
Earth 2 and World's Finest were both  as far as I'm concerned. Well done DC.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
I tried Earth 2 and Dial H. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed both. Maybe I'll pick up World's Finest on Saturday during Free Comic Book Day while I'm there.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
New 52 #1s are 99 cents on comixology now. I don't see an end date on the sale so this might just be a price drop. Good opportunity to try some of the titles out.

I did end up getting into it, and I quite like it. I think Kara's a more interesting character than Kal-El, to be honest.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
I picked up Earth 2 and Worlds' Finest this week, and Action Comics #9. It was a GREAT week for multiple-earths action. I was really bummed by one of the developments in Earth 2, but Worlds' Finest was just a lot of fun to read. And Superman in Action Comics was just awesome, a lot of the attitude that was present in the earlier issues. I was close to dropping Action Comics, but I'll stay back on for a few more issues, hoping to get more of this story at a later time.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
I should probably wait to post until after I actually read them, but I've finally made a bunch of New 52 purchases. My local store had every 2011 and earlier comic on the shelves for $1 yesterday, so I picked up issues 1 and 2 of thirty or so of the new DC titles.
Looking forward to a marathon reading session soon. |

All I can say is :wtf: after reading The New 52 #1 from FCBD.

He is now. Welcome to the new DC.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
DC could have been more subtle about revealing my origin, though I do see it opening up storytelling possibilities. Lots of rumors are pointing to the upcoming Trinity War being DC's version of Civil War.

Will one of them reveal their identity on national TV leading to a loved one getting shot by an assassin which in turn leads to DC's One More Day? Maybe Trinity War is set in the past and that will explain why Clark and Lois are no longer married in the DCnU? And regarding Phantom Stranger's origin I thought the 1980s Secret Origins series did it best by giving him a multiple choice origin with four possible origins. |
Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
Didn't Alan Moore once do a Stranger semi-origin story? If so, I imagine that was best.
Just read my first DC new 52 stuff today, starting with that FCBD book. Hated that book, didn't like the new origins of PS and ? at all. But I've pretty much enjoyed everything else I've read so far. Flash #1, Action 1-2, Birds of Prey 1-2, and Detective #1 iirc. Good fun for $1 a book, but I'd feel ripped off if i paid more. I don't think any of them took me more than four or five minutes to read, not a very good cost/entertainment ratio. Maybe I'm too used to Vertigo stuff, but I swear they were the quickest reads of my 40 year comic life. |

That was from the 1980s Secret Origins series I mentioned before.

I just read the Animal Man trade (quick read). Really good but I'm seriously freaked out now.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
i tried nearly all of the new 52 initially and then stuck with maybe half. of the ones which ive read every single issue, heres how i would rank them so far (i am more of a mainstream dc reader and less of a vertigo type):
1) justice league 2) batman and robin 3) green lantern 4) aquaman 5) green lantern corps 6) superman 7) batgirl 8) green lantern new guardians 9) catwoman 10) all star western 11) red lanterns 12) voodoo 13) nightwing 14-15 would be batman and supergirl, which are overall quite good but there were some issues i didnt like. the list above had no issues i didnt like. the two titles that were most hyped besides jla -- action comics and detective comics -- both started out strong i felt but then i stopped liking after the first two issues =(. the most improved title would be grifter i think, with an honorable mention to green arrow. i hated their first issues and didnt read any more until they changed creative teams after six months, and i tried them again and liked them. too bad grifter has liefed covers now. as a 'verse, the gl titles are far superior to the batman family to me. they are tied together really well across them. at least the superman family is somewhat coordinated but the batman stuff is all over the place. group editor fail (at least until the owls are done, we will see how that goes). you may notice theres no wonderwoman or flash on my list. i still read those but really i only like the art. they are both trying to do something way out of the ordinary for those characters, which i can appreciate, but its not my cup of tea although i normally love azzarello. so far i am not a fan of the culling or second wave. i saw some of you liked the earth 2 stuff but i just found it alright. shade has some good issues i think. i havent read todays releases yet like vandal savage. |
Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
DC is apparently going to bring a "prominent" character out of the closet in the New 52 continuity. I can assume that most reactions will be:
1) Changing long-established characters like this is sacrilege! 2) They should have just created a new character if they wanted to appease LGBT readers. As with everything else about the New 52, my feeling is that as long as the story works, I'm fine with whatever they want to do. I know Gail Simone has been hinting at something major that she's been fighting for at DC for about a month or so now, and given how outspoken she's been about LGBT equality, I have a sneaking suspicion this was her project. I wonder if it'll turn out to be Barbara Gordon? Batwoman will appear in issue #12... |

Let it be Superman...let it be Superman...

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
It's gotta be Batman. All those beards and never really married, and the short shorts Robin is still in continuity, right? I mean I know he has a kid, but wasn't he drugged up for that?

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
Maybe it will be Wally West, then the fans will really go crazy.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide
I could see a lot of fan outrage at Barbara Gordon. They finally bring her back and then this reveal? Plus that would mean that Batgirl and Batwoman are out of the closet (which sets up the eventual Batman turn, as I predicted earlier, but still)
So is Justice League back in the "present day" now, and if so, is Hal not a member (or did he get his ring back)? Feel free to spoiler tag the response, I'm just curious. |
