Given that Gotham is a nickname of New York, it's not that much of a stretch. ;)

Nice to have you back MinL. The forum hasn't been the same.

Picked up the #2's of Justice League, Batman, Green Lantern Corps, and Nightwing. All of them were very good, but Batman and Nightwing feel very similar, both with mysterious assassins out to kill them.

Yeah, I was really surprised by how much I liked Justice League #2. I haven't dug into the rest of this week's stack of DC stuff yet.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide

Actually I thought the best line of the week was in Justice League. When Superman, Flash, and GL were talking about their powers, and someone asked Batman what he could do, and Batman said, "I can keep us on point."

I thought so too. Surprisingly, I'm enjoying Nightwing more than Batman.

Nightwing feels more personal than Batman at the moment.

I keep hearing good things about Nightwing. I finally read Batman #1. I guess I was hoping there'd be no Robins in that one. I couldn't figure out what was happening when
Spoiler:
Dick changed from the Joker back to himself. Is Dick some kind of hologram, or is that something I should have known about?
.

I'm looking forward to JL #2, and I haven't been able to read Wonder Woman #2 yet.

These are the same ones I picked up this week…

I thought Batman and Nightwing were great again.

I don’t think I ever read a Nightwing solo comic before, but I loved Morrison’s take on him in B&R so I decided to give this a try…so far I like it a lot. Are there any older runs of Nightwing that are worth picking up?

I was honestly surprised at how much I really loved Justice League #2, especially since #1 barely registered over an OK. I'm definitely in for the long haul.

I only even mentioned it because it had been a side discussion and this was something directly from one of the original comics. I never gave the "Gotham as Chicago" theory any consideration at all until recently.

Haven't read it, but that's a nice line!

I really enjoyed Suicide Squad #2, much moreso than the original. The guys are right bastards.

Batman and Nightwing were both VERY GOOD reads, I'm in for the long haul on both. I still enjoyed Captain Atom as well, I think that's an under-the-radar sleeper for DC.

Mister Terrific was OK, but needs to get good real fast or it's on the chopping block. DC Universe Presents was GOOD. The club scenes hooked me in for more. Batwing, surprisingly, was terrific, although Catwoman still sucks and sucks terribly. Birds of Prey was MEH and without some stronger writing, I'm gonna tune out by the end of #3. Liked Supergirl but Superboy dropped in quality considerably.

Frankenstein and Demon Knights are still all sorts of .

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide

I really dug all of the #2s I picked up this week: Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Batman, and Justice League. Birds of Prey isn't an essential read or anything, and I don't think I'd curl up in the fetal position and cry if I forgot to buy it one week, but I'm enjoying it. (Batman and the Outsiders was one of my favorite comics growing up, so I have a soft spot for Katana, and I'm sure that helped.) I didn't really think much of Starling as a character in the first issue, but I really, really liked her this time around for whatever reason.

Edited to add -- Oh, yeah! I forgot I bought Supergirl. It's okay, but this makes it two consecutive issues of "I don't know what's going on, so I'll punch things". I love the art, but there isn't really a story or even much of a character for me to latch onto yet. I like the way the book is written...just wish it had more to say. It's good enough for me to stick with it for now, though.

A little miffed that the extra dollar in cover price for JLA #2 went to 2 extra pages of art (with plenty of 2-page spreads throughout the issue), and some costume design pages, and some pages of text.

Justice League was $3.99 last month, too, right? The $4 tag kept me away from All-Star Western, too. It might keep me from some of the Superman titles, as well. I can rationalize $3 on almost anything, but $4 is almost too much for a single issue of anything, IMO.

Has anyone been reading The Flash? Worth picking up?

So I'm at the Barnes and Noble looking through the comic rack and I decide to pick up Justice League and Teen Titans, JL was a 4th printing not that that matters to me at this point, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. $3.99 and $2.99 respectivly was just too much for me to pay for comic books. I don't know how people collect on a month to month basis anymore without going broke.

I picked up the first issue, and it was okay, nothing that stood out as special, but i picked up #2 today to give it another try...

Let me know if it gets any better. I've got enough books on my plate without adding more but if it's good I'll check it out.

Comic books are plainly not a good value proposition anymore for entertainment, which is why the industry has become such a niche market. I think most of the people concerned with the pricing have switched to trade paperbacks, if they still even read comics at all. The problem is that the industry is in an escalating feedback loop where prices have to continue going up as the readership declines. If an issue of Batman was selling a million copies every month, DC could afford to sell it under $2 an issue.

Comics as a business work much better when there is a critical mass of readership.

I'm with you. I started using dscb.com to buy my books with the DC relaunch. Considering you have to pay shipping however, you have to buy at least six or seven books to break even with no tax. I've been buying way more, so I figure I'm paying about $2 a book at this point.

$2 is about the highest i can justify for 10 minutes of reading.

I just don't know how the industry is going to survive on current prices especially since they're charging the same for digital.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide

You can get the digital versions for a dollar off once the next issue comes out (so most number ones are a dollar off now), so you can save that way if you're only picking up a few titles, don't care about a physical copy, and don't want to preorder. I've been tempted.

I said it in the iPad thread, but 99c is the sweet spot for me, and I picked up several titles when they had a digital sale the other day. But even then it doesn't feel like a great value when you can pick up an ipad app that will last you far longer for the same price (or free).

I'm not a Flash fan but really enjoyed #1 and thought #2 continued to be really good. Story aside, the art in the book is pretty damn awesome. Some really neat choices for page layouts in the book.
