Well... DC just ensured I won't be buying more than a few of their floppies at this point!

On a related note, I like what Image does with The Walking Dead. Issue 90 came out a few weeks ago, and the 15th TPB with issues 85-90 will be out a month later.

I would think they'd rather get the first kickoff storylines in people's hands quick though so they would maybe jump on the monthly books. Guess they're well aware of the two different schools of thought of readers.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the stories, but having given up floppies for a few years, but still buying TPBs, I realize that reading long stories in a montly format is difficult if not downright lame. I can hardly remember what happened yesterday, much less something I read last month. I'm definitely going to keep more than a few of the floppies, but will transition to the trades on some of these books.

I'm already behind on a few titles (Green Lantern, ASW, Animal Man, etc), so I'll pick up those trades. Also, I may just stop with floppies after these first arcs get completed. I don't want to store hundreds of books in bags and boards, and a nice hardcover will always beat six or seven floppies in my mind.

If you wait for the trade (instead of the HC), it'll be an even longer wait for some titles. DC has always had a pretty lengthy wait for their collections, I think sometimes to their detriment... for instance, they were still publishing the last vestiges of that World of Krypton storyline when the new 52 started coming out... and that storyline was dropped like a rock long before that.
It's a slightly better deal to do the wait-a-month for the digital books if you compare full retail for the trades/HC, but with Amazon discount, etc. the trades come out ahead. I think DCBS has also had killer deals on the 52 every month so far.

Funny you say that. In addition to the three books I'm interested in reading out of the New 52, this relaunch has gotten me to go back and read through Legends of the Dark Knight. I've just finished everything through the end of 1992 and am now a few issues into 1993. Next up for me is going to be "Heat," the 4-parter told in issues #46-49 that still stands as one of my all-time favorite comic book stories.
"Heat" is about Catman preying on women during a horrendous heat wave, making everyone in Gotham anxious and bitchy. Batman is trying to catch him and stop the attacks, Catwoman is in it to clear her name because the cat motif has confused people and Gordon is desperate to keep the whole city from rioting. There's a visceral quality to the story that made me feel how hot and tense everyone was. That's the kind of storytelling I dig.

I think the greater issue is that it's Dan DiDio calling the shots and he clearly has a fanboy hard-on for "events." When they ask me to buy issues of series I'm not reading just to keep up with a story, I'll bail but for right now I'm content to follow these three books and see where they go.
Besides, we're only two issues into most of these series. I agree it seems DC wasn't willing to go all the way with their efforts to rejuvenate things but I also disagree that the New 52 has been a colossal failure. I respect the fact that you personally have been disappointed, but I'm digging what I've been reading.

Im with you, I hate having to move all of my old floppies around that I have nostagia for, I definitely won't move these ones around...I'd rather throw them on ebay and sell them for next to nothing than store them.

Why not go digital (now that tablets are becoming more reasonable)?

Haven't read it, but I hear good things.
I've only been reading three series. I readily grant you that the pre-existing histories of the characters and situations weren't scrapped as we were led to believe by their whole "This changes everything!" marketing campaign. But I also feel like it hasn't been cumbersome or inaccessible in what I've been reading. There are references to The Killing Joke and Flashpoint, for instance, in Batgirl. I'm sure established readers will take that information for granted, and newbies will be aware there's stuff they probably ought to know more about, but I also think that the essence of what a casual reader would need to know has been presented in an accessible way.
We get caught up on the idea of stories making too much of back stories sometimes, I think because we can actually find those previous issues. But if you look at any other medium--TV or film, for instance--stories often allude to such content and expect the viewer to accept the references and go with it. For 20 years, Star Wars fans wondered just what Obi-Wan Kenobi's youth as an active Jedi had been like. But nobody was confused about what we were told.
I think most readers are intelligent enough to glean what they need to know about previous exploits in order to enjoy the current tales. And unlike Star Wars fans of the 70s and 80s, those who want to know about Barbara Gordon being shot can actually go read The Killing Joke instead of having to wait another 20 years for a dubious prequel.
Part of the huge problem I find with the new 52 is that it simply is not accessible. These characters, new and old, have histories that are still lingering in the books. It's not a reboot or a relaunch or anything new, really. They just started every comic book over from issue #1 with new character designs. Fundamentally, nothing has changed. Take Green Lantern for instance: would it have killed them to introduce a new Green Lantern?

Me, too! I was really wary of a hero-vs.-hero story (it seems that's been the lion's share of conflict in the first three issues of the DCnU), but the relationship between Babs and Dick was actually explored very nicely. It was sweet, it was vulnerable...but it was also bitter and tragic. Their conflict actually made sense within the story--though I still suspect Nightwing's presence was a contrivance foisted on Simone from on high.
So far, Batgirl is definitely what I hoped it would be and I'm actually excited between issues. Same with Detective Comics. If those two sustain this kind of quality, then I'll happily continue reading them.

One thing that intrigued me, though, was Grayson's time as Batman, so I went back to read Morrison's run to find out how it got to that point. Holy crap, I've never been so confused while reading something...
Snyder's stuff, though, on Batman has been completely accessible, and since it's a new villain we're introduced to there's not as much baggage as the Joker carries.
All in all, if folks are willing to give this a chance I think they can get in pretty easily. I'm glad for the relaunch as it gives me a chance to go back into something I never got into before.

I know the next story arc involves The Penguin, and if it's as well done as this first arc with The Dollmaker, I'll be thrilled to keep reading.

Initially, I didn't pick up wonder woman because i heard it was bad, but after hearing good things about the next 2 issues, i picked up the 3 when i was at my lbcs last week...Im not convinced it is for me yet, but i think the direction they are taking that title is interesting. I've never read any WW books faithfully, but I has she ever been written like this, with more focus on her God like roots than being a super hero? I know it is way early, but i kinda got an early issue Sandman vibe from these issues...
Like i said, I'm not sure these are for me, but they have some potential i think.

This is kind of a roundabout way of a sale, but: Best Buy for black friday has $100 itunes cards for $80 bucks. Pretty good way to stock up if anyone is buying comics digitally through comixology.

I want to like the new 52 but it pales in comparison to DC's previous efforts and new universes.
All-Star warranted alot of excitement, and delivered it with Superman. Batman & Robin had excellent art and COULD have been a great modern telling of the duo but Miller chose to go overboard with the caricatures.
And before that there was the excellent America's Best Comics. They really pushed the limits of what you could do with sequential art.

I finally downloaded Justice League #1 and 2 for my (delayed) flight today. I agree with a lot of the criticism - not enough extra pages to justify the extra buck, both were pretty quick reads (esp. #1) - but, damn, they were fun. I enjoyed Lee's art much more than normal, and Johns' writing was really sharp. I admit, I chuckled at the "Batman's real?" gag in both issues.

Just got my box of books from DCBS on Monday. A few thoughts... I think Batgirl may be my favorite comic book out of the all the DC 52 books. I'm enjoying most of the Batman books and Action, too. And again, say what you will about Ron Marz writing on Voodoo, the art is fantastic.
