That doesn't explain the guest appearance without letting the character's main writer know, though.

I should've linked the article, as it has the writer's tweet, and anger:

It probably helps that I've never been a DC guy, so these restarts don't leave me with any kind of longing for what they're giving up.

But if you need the flip side, I thought Red Lanterns and Mister Terrific were pretty bad. In particular Mister Terrific which gave us this gem though....

Really Mr. T? That's what you'd prefer people say to you?

I was just yanking your chain. I've spoken to more than a few people who have enjoyed the new books.

Comic Madness in California marked up every title at least a buck due to "shortages." Under ordered titles (like Red Lanterns and Demon Knights) were $5.99 when the store opened today.

The 90s are definitely back.

Forget it, then. If I find something that interests me at cover price or near it after it's been out more than at least a week I might bite, but the days of me paying over cover for new content went out with the millennium.

You'd think shops would just be ecstatic they're actually selling out of stuff again. This kind of shenanigans is self-destructive and those shops that are jacking up prices best not come crying after this buzz fades that they're on the verge of bankruptcy again.

I found out today that the Books-a-Million here may not be getting any of the New 52 since they're contracted out with someone else. The clerk did tell me I could check the flea market, though, which tells a lot about the state of finding comic books down here. I don't want to brave the wilds of a Lower Alabama flea market for Detective Comics #1, but I may have to if I want to jump on board with these...

Not for me. I'm a tactile reader. If I had an e-reader, I might take a look at some digital comics but that format just holds no appeal for me. I'm more than happy to listen to digital music on my iPod or to stream/download TV shows and movies--I've even watched video content on my iPod. But for comic books, I'm a curmudgeon who needs to hold an issue in his hands.

I am curious, though, how the digital sales are faring amid this frenzy of sell-outs and mark-ups. Has anyone heard anything about that?

DC won't give specific numbers. They've been speaking in generalities and said that the numbers aren't as mindblowing as the print versions but that they're pleased with what they're seeing.

I'm still curious: what do you do with all the issues you've already read? What about the ones you bought and after reading, realized were crap? There's little to no resale value for comic books. And while I've cut down my collecting a ton, I have boxes upon boxes of comic books that I don't have the heart to sell or throw out, taking up space.

That's the only reason why I think going digital is a good thing (if you have a tablet or something equivalent... forget using a computer). I don't need the feel of the comics in my hand that much. And I don't need the ads.

As far as the 90's being back again, they've probably been doing this all along but man are there a ton of variant covers out there for ordering a certain number of books. With all of my recent DC graphic novels, I am continually surprised at how many times there are multiple variant covers for individual issues (which are usually included in the gallery). What do retailers do with these? Give them out to loyal customers? Jack up the price and try to sell them?

But still the ultimate callback was Justice League #1, bagged with an online code, with an alternate cover. Yeah, it needed the bag for the online code, but still.

That's the thing for me, I have no space left for comics. Or much of anything, really. The more I can get digitally, the easier my life is.

Their store was SWAMPED today too. People were buying multiple copies of EVERYTHING include the more expensive variant covers. Ultimate Spider-Man #1 also came out today so those got snatched up in the frenzy. From store opening to around 1:30pm, they were flooded with non-stop fanboys.

Personally I have right around 4,000 comics, which consists of DC from COIE to present day. I go back and re-read my older comics often. Growing up in the late 80s/early 90s that period will always be special to me, and I just enjoy that period more than I do current comics. So I go back and re-read them. I do have a lot of issues that aren't so good, but I keep them anyway because of the "gotta have them all" mentality. I don't care about resale value at all. I will never sell my comics for any reason. To me comics are meant to be read and enjoyed, and not meant to be a financial investment for the future.

I still buy singles, but after me and a friend reads them, I sell them to someone I met on eBay. If I like the completed story enough I will get the collected version. The only singles I keep are my GA/SA keys.

That's definitely bush league, but I would think that these types of shops are in the minority. I stopped by one store yesterday at noon and was told they'd already sold out of Grifter (Grifter!!!) by noon. The owner said he had put out all the books he had planned for display and then put out the five copies he had set aside to sell in the future.

When I asked him if he though he could make more money on these copies in three or four months, he laughed and said he would rather sell them now since he didn't know if anyone would be interested in four months.

Don't ever buy at that store again and let them know you're never going to buy shit there ever again.

This has to be driving Marvel crazy.

Can't wait to see what they do in response.

They should have rebooted her to look like Samuel L. Jackson... with a patch.

Why are you sorry? I doubt anyone here designed, drew them, or cares! You need to apologize to Batman directly.

Re: DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, Same Day Digital Linewide

Quick impressions of Week 2:

Batman and Robin -- Fine art and storytelling from Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason. If you didn't like Damian before, you're aint gonna like him now. I like the little runt though. He has a furmisch on Bruce that nobody else can touch (or get away with). Less self-conscious than "Detective" in that it's not trying to hit every "iconic" Batman beat along the way, and be it's OWN thing.

Batwoman -- Fantastic art, but a totally glum story that tells way too much and not enough all at once. The history between Kate and her father is exposed in all of a single two-page spread. The mystery of the "water spirit" seems entirely tacked on. Decent character moments, but this sure is one scatterbrained comic. Needs to get a whole lot more focused real fast if I'm gonna stick around.

Deathstroke -- OK this was real freakin' awesome. Is it a game-changer, no not really, but one HELL of a fun comic. You'll totally want to buy Slade a beer and a slice of pie by the last page. This could turn out to be a breakout title for DC, if the quality can be maintained and they don't rely strictly on "shocker" moments (which I don't think it will, but you never know...)

Demon Knights -- EXCELLENT. Camelot meets Kurosawa with a dose of high-magic fantasy. Perfect introduction to the characters if you're unfamiliar with Etrigan the Demon, Madame Xanadu, the Shining Knight, Vandal Savage, etc. VERY curious to see how this saga will unfold...

Frankeinstein - Agent of SHADE -- Another EXCELLENT. Art is a bit cruddy but then again it probably fits the style and tone of the storytelling. Lemire has written another great comic, but so much is happening I wouldn't have minded just a little bit of decompression here. Loved the use of S.H.A.D.E.Net as a narration/background device.

Green Lantern -- Good comic, decently written and fine art. I want to see where it's going, but I wasn't blown out of the water either.

Grifter -- YAWN. This was the most pointless and annoying comic I've read in a LONG while. Not necessarily terrible (howdy Green Arrow!), but unnecessarily sloppy and obtuse. I cared nothing about anything or anyone in this comic. Definitely won't be back for #2.

Legion Lost -- YAWN. I **LOVE** the Legion. My favorite superhero comics of all time are the Legion. But this comic failed to present an interesting enough story of its own, or to introduce NEW readers to the property.

To be continued. I need a Clif bar.
