How big is your comic collection?

Sorry if there's already a thread on this, but I couldn't find it.

It's obvious from many of the posts in the forum that some of your have massive collections. I recently stumbled across some old long boxes and realized how few individual issues I own (maybe 500). My parents never gave me a ton of money when I was young, and by the time I had my own money to spend I'd moved on to TPBs. Not sure how many, but they'd stretch 7-8 feet if stacked together.

What about you guys?

About 2 years ago, I sold off my full collection - about 35 long boxes. Now I've started re-buying comics and up to about 1 long box.

Re: How big is your comic collection?

I have maybe 20 odd issues around that I want to get bound into a HC, and the rest I have are trades. I haven't counted, but I would guesstimate I have around 30. I like to keep my shit streamlined.

Re: How big is your comic collection?

I have one long box of comics and the rest are hardcovers and trades. The deluxe hardcover is my preferred format if it's a series I really like. But when I moved recently, I found out just how heavy a stack of those can be.

I stopped eleven years ago but I actually counted what I had after collecting for 25 years. It was about 4500; mostly silver age and bronze age books. I still go to conventions once in awhile to pick up stuff.

Re: How big is your comic collection?

I'm sitting at about 4700-4800. Mostly stuff from the last 15-20 years. Probably have about 45 TPB's as well.

Re: How big is your comic collection?

Sometimes I wish the thieves who broke into my house last December would have cleaned me out of my comics. I'd have more space in my house if they had done so. But, alas, no thief is that dumb.

Sold, gave away, or threw out 99% of my comics years ago, save for a handful that I kept for sentimental reasons. I'm trades/hardcovers only now. Comics longboxes are pretty much vagina repellent anyhow.

And trades/hardcovers aren't?

I have about five longboxes and Mrs Danger has about three.

I think the only things I've re-read in the last five years are Sandman, The Invisibles, and Stray Toasters. Mrs Danger mostly has horror comics from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and sometimes she'll pull out and read a random handful.

Re: How big is your comic collection?

Somewhere around 4,000 looking to get rid of almost all of them. Switching over to hard backs and some TPBs. I just never seem to reread the single issues. Not that I don't still pick some up if they're cheap at a garage sale or flea market and read them, but not for keeping. I use them more to see if I like a series/writer then get it in the collected edition (if available).

To be fair, by the time I met Mrs. Hokeyboy -- or Hokeygirl, whatever we're gonna call her -- most of my single issue comics were gone and/or replaced with trades, and she (at the time) had been collecting action figures and cute Japanese knick-knacks. In retrospect, I could have kept all my comics. But I'm totally glad I got rid of them. Cleared up a lot space, and made for a fun 2-3 years pre-Hokeygirl. And why the groin? Thank Chaucer, my friend.

Not as much, no. But then again I'm biased since my ex's roomate worked for an indie TPB publisher.

I've got maybe a longbox or two somewhere. I may have cleaned out some of the stuff and given the rest away. I don't remember.

Re: How big is your comic collection?

about a 2 years ago I logged them all into comicbookdb.com...it counts trades/HC/Omnis as 1, but it says I have 8,193...

http://www.comicbookdb.com/collection.php?

...alot of it is 90's crap, my brother owns a pizza shop and in the late early 90's, one of our customers worked in a comic shop and used to get me his discount, which was paid out of the cash drawer and I worked off...so it didn;t seem like real money, so in return i bought a lot of crap...but i did read it all...

edited to add the breakdown...

Standard Comic Issue: 7881
Trade Paperback: 110
Hardcover: 78
Prestige Format: 50
Original Graphic Novel: 17
Anthology: 12
Ashcan: 6
Minicomic: 3
Bookshelf: 3
Magazine: 3
Flipbook: 1
Manga: 1

...not sure i know what the differences are in prestige / original GN / bookshelf and just the regular HC and TPB, but that is what the site says...

My collection is pretty big, been collecting since 1975 or so. I have almost 43,000 comics now.
Fortunately my wife puts up with this vice of mine

jeez how many long oxes would that be?

I have about 50 long boxes.
I stopped collecting about 3 years ago.

each box has 250-275 in each one.

I just took them out of storage, a 5 x 10 rooom that these boxes filled.

now they're in my garage.

10 or 12 boxes are all Spider-man various issues.
I'm missing about 35 issues of Amazing.

Same here. I saved my complete run of Barbara Gordon Batgirl singles, as well as my silver Keys (1st JLA, Flash. GL, etc) and now have two book cases with trade and hardcovers. I still get some singles, but toss them in lots on eBay when im done.

there are about 158 long boxes so far. I have a 10x15 storage room in the basement that is for my junk, which is all comics. lol.
I have a crap-load of bagged/boarded comics that are still awaiting to be boxed that I've procrastinated over for the past year.
many of the Marvel series, I'm missing just a small amount of issues.
I still need 38 issues of Amz. Spiderman, 6 issues of Inc. Hulk, 5 issues of Avengers, 28 of Daredevil, 48 of FF, and 17 of Uncanny Xmen. But those will be slow at coming if at all, otherwise the wife would castrate me if I splurged on them I need many more on the many DC series that I have.

I've been lucky in that I dramatically increased alot of my collection back in the 80s with Iowa small town flea markets where I got many, many, many comics for a quarter or less apiece from dealers. I would be unable to buy most of those comics today at their current value.

I have 40 long boxes of comic books right now. Figure about 10,000 comics? I stopped collecting a year ago and can't really figure out how to pare down my collection to maybe half.

Re: How big is your comic collection?

I fear I'm just going to have to donate a few long boxes of comics to my LCS.
