I think I have over 100 long boxes now. I just bought 36 of those drawer boxes and I am going to be converting over to those to save space.
I don't buy of collect TPB's. I collect to invest and I prefer regular issues over TPB's.

That seems like a bad idea. For every first issue first printing of Chew, Walking Dead, or Mouse Guard, there are thousands upon thousands of books worth no more than the entertainment value they provide. Preferring singles is cool though.

It is simple supply and demand. Comics from the 40s, 50s, and 60s are worth so much because there weren't a huge amount of copies printed and the quality of paper was pretty poor so there are even fewer copies still in good shape. Therefore the supply is low which raises the price.

Today's comics are a completely different situation. Copies are produced on a much more massive scale and the quality of paper has greatly increased. This makes the supply much greater which in turn lowers the price. Today's comics really aren't going to be worth much in the future.

This is exactly why the investment era boom of the early 90s failed. I guess the comic companies didn't really understand supply and demand. Way too many copies of 90s comics exist which raises the supply and therefore lowers the price. 90s comics aren't worth much more than cover price today and most likely won't ever be worth much.

Went to the quarterly comic book show earlier this month, and picked up about 70 current issues for about $40 after finding a table selling relatively new comics (within the past year) for a quarter to 50 cents each, as well as another few tables selling new-ish comics for $1 each. Jackpot!

I doubt if any comic made since 1990 is going to be worth anything, ever.

I still have daydreams of an old uncle or something giving me a closet full of books from the 40s and 50s.

I have a couple longboxes somewhere at my parents' home. These days, I have a stack of most of the classic Marvel G.I. Joe comic books and only pick up those every once in a while off Craigslist.

Er, anybody have some old Marvel G.I. Joe comics for me? I don't care about condition, I just read 'em.

I probably have less than 100 single issues, and am trying to swear off buying them all together, but I will occasionally have a weak Wednesday.

I still buy alot of TPBs and Hard Covers however. I have about 40 that I have kept, I sell the ones I am not as fund of on Ebay after I have read them.

Thanks to google docs, I'm in the process of cataloging my inventory so that I can somehow sell it off. I can't believe how many multiples of crap I have. I've only gone thru a couple of long boxes so far...

What I have entered so far. Thankfully, I pretty much kept them all somewhat organized.

I had about 40 long boxes. I sold probably 35 of them when i was 18 to help me get my first/last/security for my first apartment and pay some college expenses.

Since then I've probably rebought about 10 long boxes worth of comics. I mostly have magazines (horror mags, Warren, Skywald, Fangoria type stuff) and I have probably another 10 long boxes of those.

I've been trying to replace stuff with TPBs, I probably have about 2,500 TPBs.

I used to collect a lot towards the early 90s and finally stopped in the mid 5000-10000 range. I honestly don't even know how many I have. Occasionally I buy I TPB, but for the most part once my local library started carrying them I figured, "What's the point?".

I only collected for about 2 years in the mid 90's and have about 5 short boxes (which would make just over 2 long boxes I believe?) Most of my collection is all Image and Mad Cow comics and some independent labels with a very small amount of marvel. Im still hoping and waiting to see if Weapon Zero will ever become a movie.

I was mostly a DC guy myself because I was brought up that way, and was lucky enough to start collecting during the heyday of the "rebirth" of DC, with such great writers as Byrne, Peter David, etc, etc (I really loved the Vertigo stuff). I did do the occasional Marvel though. These days most of the TPBs I buy are either independent or have some sort of connection with DC (because they usually buy them up anyways).

One long box only of all the first Image comic book characters (Spawn, Gen13, Wildcats, Pitt, etc)

Used to love collecting years ago, X-Men especially. My first comic book was an X-Men comic book, think it was issue 181. I had many important issues, such a shame I sold them all years ago. My favorite was the Secret Wars, man did I love so much that series. :(

Since Im saving fot a wedding, I haven't bought a comic in a year or so. As of now, Im between 4500-5000.... with a monetary value at 30k. Or atleast what its insured for.

I have about 500-600 regular issues (only series I enjoy) and a couple TPBs and HCs--I buy collected editions of series I'll re-read, but prefer having the issues first. The titles are all over the map, from publishers like DC/Vertigo, Marvel, Image/Top Cow, Dark Horse, Zenescope, Broadsword, etc.

The comments about single-issue comics being girl repellent is so silly to me! But that's because I'm prone to thinking strictly-TPB/HC collections are lazy and/or part of a bandwagon. Who doesn't have the Watchmen TPB these days?

Um, I don't have Watchmen.

Being "girl repellent" is a non-issue for me; my wife and I actually included Wizard World Chicago as part of our honeymoon.

According to ComicBookDB.com, my comic library is a paltry 536 issues (including TPBs). Like a lot of you, I used to own quite a lot more than that until I lost my interest. I've been rebuilding my comic library sporadically for about a year now. Sometimes I replace issues I used to own and sometimes I pick up stuff I always meant to read but never did.

I guess it depends on what year your asking me about :). At the age of 13 selling comics was my 1st business. I used to buy them wholesale (50% to 60% off) back then I would also buy them for resale. For the life of me I still never understand even to today someone would sell me a book for .10 to .20 cent. I had at one point over 450,000 copies. This did not count the Hustles, etc (about 5,000 or so).

I still own Conan 1 to 30 that my grandmother bought me at the ice cream place. I also own Superman art that was sold at the time with and without the "S" (My grandmother dated J.S. back in the 30s). When he died he willed me Action #1 (I had paid his rent from time to time, he was a nice guy that got F***over).

Today that is another story. I have all the major issues (Batman, Superman, FF, X-men, etc). About 2,000 with most of them being All the Conan issues an Punsher (sp). I do not buy anything new, I have read from time to time this or that. But nothing to make me want to buy anything. Yes I come from the old school. I still like the smell of some of the old comics.

Not to show off. I have never read a reprint of any comic.

So, your saying that in the 70's if you had a DC 100 pager you would only read the new story in front and never bother with the GA reprints because you already read the originals?

The last time I counted my collection was in 1986 and I had 20,000 comics. I've continued to buy them up to the present. I rent a storage space the size of an average bedroom and it's full floor to ceiling with long boxes. Basically I've got most of the Marvels from 1961 on, DC from 1958 on, assorted golden age and EC including Mad, all Warrens,Tower,Atlas,Pacific,Eclipse,First,Crossgen and many other independents. Throw in National Lampoon, Rolling Stone and many fanzines from the 60s onwards. Probably read about at most half of them
Way back when I was buying them along with old comics at conventions, I thought of them as investments to help me through my "golden years". Yes there are books that command great returns, but over all, I could just smack myself upside my head and spent my money differently

Yes. I would read the main story. The person that posted about the 40, 50 comics. It not the paper. Its was the wars. This also has to do with the 30s. Yes the paper was bad, and it got worst as the war years went on. I could not count if I need to how many bad really bad copies of those comics would come thought my hands. One even had a bullet hole in it (still have it).

The only real way to make any money off of this or any item is know your market and get it cheaper then what it sells for new. I still remember the death of superman and the spider-man #1. Come on 3 covers for the same bloody book. At that point I sold off closed to everything as I seen the fall of the comic market.

The last great sale still makes me go huh? Killing Joker, 1st print sold 70 (still have 5) cost $1.29ea, sold $40 to $65 each (all in one day at the same place, did not even pay for the table). 4 Months later they where on their 4th print and they could not even get cover cost on those.

You just waited to long to sell them. The years that you said. If your EC are Vault or Horror or any of their Horrors. Depending on what they look like. They are worth money. Close to every mom out there would trash their sons comics. Making these now worth some cash.

FYI, not that you need to be told. If you did get these to resell them. An you know they are not going to sell. Why are you paying for a place to keep them? If you read them from time to time I can see that.

I'm up to 10 long boxes now and have been collecting since 2006. I've also got about 2 shelfs of trades and hardcovers.
