Re: Recommend some TPB's, please

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I'll hijack/bump this old thread. I'm going on vacation next week, and I have a 4 hour flight each way. I just started reading comics (well I read a couple years of Spiderman and Daredevil when I was a kid back in the mid 80s). I hope you guys can recommend a short, complete book for me to read on each flight (2 books total). I have the Simonson Thor omnibus, and it is obviously not portable or able to be read in a 4 hr flight. I also have the first Sandman TBP, and I'm going to take it in case I finish the others I take (I would read it last since I assume I will get hooked and be ready to buy the next TBP right after reading pt 1). I think I'd prefer superhero books, but any great short, complete story is welcome. I'll need to order from Amazon by Sunday it order to get them in time, and I'd like to stay under $20 for each book. Thanks for helping this new reader have a couple of entertaining reads!

^ Those are some good recommendations.

Sticking to the basics of superhero stuff, have you read Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns? Two all-time classics from the late 80s. I also really enjoyed Frank Miller's Daredevil stuff in the 80s and 90s, several collections of it available.

It was mentioned previously, but I picked up the first The Walking Dead TPB a few weeks ago and I cannot stop reading them. I've been picking them up two at a time at this point. Some really, really great stuff. And I don't care for zombies, vampries or werewolves!

I have to highly recommend Y: The Last Man, a story about the only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal (barring the same man's pet monkey) on Earth.

Re: Recommend some TPB's, please

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Before buying from Amazon, I took a look at the local library's collection, and I was pleasantly surprised. I picked up: Batman: Year 1, The Long Halloween, Hush pt 1 (I reserved pt 2), All Star Superman, Sandman vol 2 & 3 (they have the rest too), and Kingdom Come. They have all of The Walking Dead, all of Sandman, all of Y: The Last Man, and most of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, plus many, many more. I'll be set for a while!

I did read The Dark Knight Returns a long time ago, and I plan to read it again. I also want to read Watchmen, but since I've seen the movie a couple of times, I've decided to wait on it for now. Thanks for the recommendations!

Libraries rule.

I heartily recommend the Alan Moore Swamp Thing stuff, or anything by him really.

I've gotten most of my TPB suggestions here at DVDtalk. I will say, I just started Miller's Daredevil and am really liking it (Visionaries V2).
