I was just going through this list the other night! Diamond offered up all these at 70% off for retailers. Was able to pick up quite a few that I had passed on.....and look over at my bookshelf at quite a few that I picked up for the usual discounted price and not this rock bottom stuff. :( Some great deals on some of these!

That's only supposed to be no charge to you when the item was either damaged/compromised/ or the wrong thing.

That's why I was initially suspicious of how easy this whole process went. It will have to be either a really good or else something I just can't find reasonably elsewhere for me to go with a 'collectible' book from Amazon, knowing how often I've had to return these things in the past for various reasons.

I just used a 20% off coupon at B&N for the Avengers Omni- but for the majority of my GN/Omni/Comic strip book purchases, I'm now using CheapGraphicNovels. In fact, I plan to get off another large order later tonight for various stuff.

But they said his shipping charge was 0. So this restocking fee is separate.

Argh, I don't need any more omniboo, but I am tempted. Where am I going to put them all? They're already destroying my cheap bookshelves... :)

Shipping a heavy book is not free. Someone has to pay for it. Whether it's called return shipping or a 'restocking fee', the net effect is still the same- amazon doesn't want to eat the cost of packing and shipping something both ways when the customer changes his mind about simply wanting it.
And I don't think that's unreasonable.

I'm glad it worked out in his favor, especially after the CSR told him he wouldn't incur any charges

I don't either. Like my movie collection, there is a huge backlog of stuff I should be making my way through before buying anything new- however in the case of the Omni's, the majority of these are not going to be reprinted anytime soon, and aftermarket prices will only go up. If you think you might want this material a year or two from now, now is the time to snap it up.
I don't have the space for them either, but I figure by the time I get around to reading/finishing them, they'll be OoP, so I should be able to recoup my outlay fairly easily at least. At least that's the plan.

Thanks for the info, Brian. Unfortunately, I saw it one day too late :( I would have probably bought a few. I might wait a bit and see if I see a good deal on some of that elsewhere.

I called for a price match when i saw the $52.xx price and they said no, so i told the CSR i was going to return it and just reorder and he said that was fine, no mention of a restocking fee...today i got the email with the restocking fee of 31.50 + 3.50 shipping, so I got like $27 back for the Omni.

I called and asked what it was for and the girl just apologized and removed it.

I too have been filling shelves and have no where to put things, so I need to slow down, but that restocking fee will definitely stop me from ordering so far ahead next time.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see

I hate to say how many books in general I've bought in the last month, but number of Omni's in particular has been a bit ridiculous. But hey, a sale is a sale, and at >50% off, that's very hard to resist. Right now I think I'm caught up on every title I have any interest in that's still in print until Man-Thing hits in October.

At the moment I'm also digging the softcover Masterworks quite a bit. The HC Masterworks never appealed to me, but the newest softcovers are a different story. Love the paper, love the trade dress with the Dean White covers, the weight is easier on my shelves, and the street price is a damn good deal. I just have to resist snapping up more of these because much of the stuff I'm interested in (FF, Dr Strange) I know will get collected in Omni's in the not too distant future. Still, it's very tempting because I think I like the look of the old, flat coloring on this paper better than the slicker heavier stock they use in the Omni's.

i very much enjoyed the first copies even though i never read the original old issues that these take place between. i am sure that made it extra clever how they managed to get that to work but even without that aspect i was a fan.

before i knew the omnibus was coming i tracked down some random pieces i didnt have (things like the annual and one shot) which they are even including here. i bet with the upgraded paper and print quality it will be a safe buy if you like spidey.

So it looks like this (http://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Bishops-...ZZ2AY5NWC3P28W) should fill in the hole between the X-Men: Claremont/Lee Omnibus vol 02 Omni and X-Men: X-cutioner’s Song HC.

I've been backing off of these books, because my 6month old is too expensive, but I am going to get this one out of my Daily deals for $26.84 today. This really only leaves about 12 issues out of the era of X-men that are closest to my heart (210-305) not collected in HC.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see

Bumping the thread...time to revisit with the new Marvel movies coming out. While we don't know what is exactly on the slate for upcoming movies, I have heard Marvel has their movies planned out through Phase 4, taking them into 2017.

So...what are the Omnibuses we are likely to see as characters get their chance at movies and their spotlight?

First up, I am going with a Doctor Strange omnibus. We need at least two volumes there. Since he is slated to get his own movie, I feel it's inevitable we see this come out. There are already reprints in Marvel Masterworks form, so I feel this is inevitable.

I am also hoping we will see a Guardians of the Galaxy/Nova Omnibus at some point, complete with the Rocket Raccoon mini-series.

I also think there may be a chance we get a Moon Knight movie at some point. Even if it's just a stand alone, or he appears with some of the other darker toned Marvel heroes in a movie. Two omnibuses collecting the original and second runs of his comic book series (plus his first appearances in Rampaging Hulk) would be a welcome addition to this series.

And, as the movies keep coming out, I am sure Omnibuses that are out of print will see reprints later on for those who missed out on some highly sought after books. I am delighted they are reprinting Fantastic Four Vol 2 and Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 this year.

We really need an Uncanny X-Men Vol. 2, which contains the remainder of Claremont/Byrne's run on the series then some. Why that hasn't come out by now is beyond me. But with Days of Future Passed coming out, a second volume containing that story line and more seems to be an obvious choice. With Volume 1 returning to print this year, I think chances are good.

As for other Omnibuses I want to see:

Spider-Woman, two volumes to collect the original series and the later series. We can skip the four issues with the one in the black costume, but I wouldn't complain if they threw that in for good measure.

Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel. The main female hero who is most likely to get her own movie...we need an Omnibus of her comics. Or two.

The original Captain Marvel, including the full Jim Starlin run and "The Death of Captain Marvel." Hell, the Masterworks are nearly fifty bucks each. Let's get this in an omnibus once and for all!

And, if they do that, we need a Warlock omnibus at some point.

If the Marvel movies get into Thanos territory and more of the cosmic comics they created, we may very well see these are some point. Here's hoping.

What other movies do you think Marvel may be planning that will result in new omnibuses? Or what else do you want to see that has yet to come out?

EDIT: I thought of a couple more:

I agree with previous posters who said we need a New Mutants omnibus. Again, two full volumes collecting the original run, or three so they don't have to be so massive in two.

Same with John Byrne's Alpha Flight. I am pleased as cheese we got his complete run on FF in Omnibus format and that Marvel followed up with a second volume. Now it's time to roll out Alpha Flight. And I think Marvel needs to step it up and make a movie. What with people like Andrew Garfield calling for Spider-Man to turn gay, they already have Northstar...he could be the first gay superhero in a theatrical film and nobody could complain. Well, maybe Orson Scott Card.... -wink-

SECOND EDIT:

Reading through some other suggestions. I also support the idea of a Defenders Omnibus, especially if it covers Steve Gerber's run. It would go great with my Howard the Duck Omnibus!

Another one I really hope to see...and two full volumes... Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man. Such an awesome series. It's always shoved aside for Amazing Spider-Man books, but it is crying to be collected in an omnibus.

I'd like to see Jack Kirby's 2001 Treasury (apparently Marvel needs to re-secure the rights), the 2001 series and then Kirby's Machine Man issues - all in one volume!

Always liked the look of these titles when they appeared in various UK anthology reprints way back when. I even picked a few up on "import". Anything from Starlin (and Steranko) appeals. I think I always liked the more "out there" characters and ensembles.

I am kicking myself over and over again for not locking in on the second volume of John Byrne's Omnibus. When listed, it was in the $60.00 range. I held off because I've purchased so many from them they often give me good deals in my daily quick picks.

Then the price went up a day or two later, as we all know.

Kicking myself over and over...

I won't make the mistake with Deadpool. I will be checking frequently when that gets listed. After all, if the price drops after I buy it, they will match that price. And if it goes up, I will be locked in.

Do they charge my card when I place the order or when it ships? They have a great price on the second John Byrne Omnibus, too.

Another Omnibus I wish would come out: Marvel Graphic Novels Omnibus. All the original Marvel Graphic Novels, starting with the first, Death of Captain Marvel, collected in one Omnibus.

I lived in a rural community where the closest direct sales comic book store was a good drive away. So, sadly, I missed out on the majority of those original graphic novels when they came out. A collection of them in a nice Omnibus would be wonderful.

That's a great idea! I'd also like a Treasury-sized Omnibus of all the Treasury -sized books Marvel (and DC) did back in the day.
