Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
I got another shipping confirmation on X-Men Cleremont/Lee Omnibus 1 today from amazon...I'm so used to these being behind, i was again no expecting it. I dont think it was scheduled from amazon until like 10/21.
i realized that we have a good portion of the Uncanny X-men 200s now either in omnibus, or scheduled in Omnibus form. I'd love for them to get the rest of the 100s out too. |
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Ok, it's not really a Claremont/Lee omnibus... Lee draws only 8 issues (out of 26 issues plus one annual, and one of them is a retcon Classic X-men issue). Heck, Silvestri drew 12 of these. And then there's this horrid Liefeld issue that is some parody of... I dunno, DC's Invasion? I'm not sure. And an Atlantis Attacks annual that doesn't really add much (though I guess they threw it in because of the Jubilee story). I haven't even gotten to the first Lee issue yet. I guess I should've done more research, but I like Silvestri well enough, I guess... I would be miffed if I were him that the back of the book says "Industry superstars Claremont and Lee take Marvel's Mutants to new heights!"
Forgot to mention that the coloring in the first issue made Dazzler look like the Purple Woman (I guess it's supposed to be a tan?). Luckily it's only one issue. edited to add: Ok, read through to the first Lee issue, I think Silvestri and he traded off issues because Uncanny went biweekly. I've said this in another thread, but I didn't really enjoy this era of the X-men all that much... this is pretty much near the end of the Australia Outback version and then we get into Forge's replacement X-men... I think the stories I'm looking forward to are going to be in the next Omnibus. What the heck happened to Longshot, anyway? When I was a kid, I never really understood why Storm saw this vision of him (that really stood out to me), and then he just disappeared (they reference that he left in passing) before Nanny attacks. Did something happen in another book? And Master Mold first references "the twelve" here. What a mess of a story that turned out to be, like a decade later. |
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
I just got the new X-Men Omnibus in the mail. These are my prime childhood issues of the series, it would have been great if they went back to about issue 225 to start though. They really need to get more Uncanny Omnibuses out to cover everything from the end of the first Omnibus through this Claremont/Lee/Silvestri/et. al one. I really want all that in Omnibus form.
It was great to see the cover of 251 with Wolverine on the cross. I love the Reaver issues and all the X-Men Australian stuff. That takes me back to 8th grade, borrowing money from a couple friends and going down and picking that issue up. |

Golden Age Vision, probably the most underrated character of the era, an interdimensional police alien.

I think I might have missed an oversized hardcover around the 500s, but im not sure, it seems like most of use are really just concerned about the pre-300 issues…I also don’t really count the Secret Wars Omnibus, because that is one I never picked up, so I still don’t have those issues collected. Looking at these, I am surprised there hasn’t been a new oversized collection of Days of Future past or present. Also missing are annuals 4-11 (12 was in the Evolutionary War Omnibus) and 14- 21….but that isn’t a big deal at this point either, I would actually prefer them included in the Omnis that they belong in, like the Evolutionary was and Atlantis attacks. Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Wait, the Lee Omniboo are skipping the Xtinction Agenda issues? Sure they won't make much sense outside of the story, but that stinks... it's not like they're adverse to reprinting stuff in multiple omnibus (that Atlantis Attacks Annual didn't need to be included at all in the first Lee/Claremont Omnibus, for instance, and they put Captain America 25 in two omnibus!) Now I have to decide if I want to suffer through those X-factor and New Mutants issues in that Xtinction Agenda one...

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Overall, how are the stories for those crossovers after Mutant Massacre? I've been tempted to buy a number of these HCs, but I'm hesitant, remembering (vaguely) that some of these stories weren't all that great. Thoughts?

Not a fan of Mark Millar. Amazing Spiderman is a must.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
My Byrne omni arrived!
The box was pretty bashed, and it didn't come shrunken to cardboard like my Simonson was, but it seems to be in OK shape. |

Anyways, the book is great and all, but I don't like how the book ends in a middle of a storyline, on a cliff-hanger (is there another Omnibus that does that?). They should've left off some of the earlier material that Byrne didn't write, and finish off the Doom/Galactus story at the end. |

Mine too, but I have a small ding on the back right corner of the book - not bad enough to return/exchange, but still..

Yeah, the regular cover - I like it way better than the variant.
|
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Me too. #236 symbolizes the Byrne run for me--such a great issue and very early on.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
It's too bad that they still can't include Jack Kirby on that cover.
(he's supposed to be in that empty spot between Silver Surfer and Stan Lee, behind Sue's arm) http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg |

That's what cut and paste is for. In this case, literally cut and paste.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
I followed the Bryne run when it was first coming out and it was great stuff- some of my all time favorite comic book reading. I had the Omni on pre-order...until I found out it wasn't going to get a state of the art re-coloring the way Thor did. In a big honkin' deluxe version, the old flat coloring just doesn't work for me. Just compare and contrast the beautiful modeling shown on the cover above that Slop101 posted to the flat coloring inside. Such a missed opportunity to make this material even more special.
|
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
The old coloring isn't that bad - and while it hasn't been "recolored", it has been "remastered" to look a little more vibrant than it did in the pages of the old floppies and even the more current collections.
|
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
I just got the Byrne in. Soon, I've got to sit down and read these omnibuses. I haven't had the time to do so and I bought like 8 of them in the past 8 or 9 months. All I've read is about 1/3 to a 1/2 of the Uncanny X-Men one.
