Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Oh crap! I can definitely see spending five hundred easily on this sale. I mean, I guess I could trim it down but these so rarely come down in price.

Yeah, this is very dangerous. I still haven't finished my CA Brubaker omnibus but am tempted to pick up more CA, including the non-Brubaker one.

Thanks for posting!

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

You're both welcome, and thanks to exharrison for mentioning it was live.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) for me, this sale isn't as dangerous because I've already purchased a fair number of these at higher prices. And it's a little bit easier to resist because of the additional 8.75% sales tax I have to pay. But there are still five or so I'd like to pick up, especially some of these that are out of print, I just have to figure out how to pay for them all.

Well, good news is I was off on my 500 dollar prediction. Bad news is I lowballed it. I really think that they will be losing money on shipping this to me too. Hopefully this will be it for a while.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth! That's quite an order Hadrian7. I hope that you enjoy everything.

I found out that their retail store isn't terribly far from me, so I made a trip out there, (but unfortunately discovered that all prices in person are 10% higher unless one is paying cash). So I'll go back again soon with cash. However, I saw that they had several employees working on filling orders, including what appeared to be some very big ones. Hopefully you'll get yours soon. I don't know if you've read many of those stories yet, but imo there are a lot of good ones.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

See? This is what I get for rationalizing my purchases. I was saving so much money how could I say no? Especially when I tell myself that they are almost paying me to ship this.

Before I started on DVDs/Blus I was quite an avid comic book fanboy but stopped with the floppies around 10 years ago. I just bought the New 52 from DCBS but have mostly focused on tpbs. The only truly blind buys from this batch are the Sandmans, Promethea and LXG. It may be hard to believe, but I actually deleted quite a few from my cart before finishing.

For those who have the DC Omnibuses, how are they in terms of the glue binding vs the sewn bindings on the Marvel Omnibuses? That stopped me from getting more since I am not a fan of glue in these versions; too much potential for defects.

The DC are not as nice as the Marvel ones, that is a widely held belief among fans. The Absolutes are awesome, but in general DC seems to cheap out on printing quality and paper at times in comparison to the competition.

I've been hearing a lot of reports of DC's Omnibus and Absolute books having glued binding instead of sewn binding. Ones that I know have glued binding are the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Omnibus, the New Teen Titans Omnibus, and certain printings of Absolute Sandman Vol. 2.

On the Sandman Vol. 2, I've heard that the spine of the books is different on the glued version from the other versions, being square instead of rounded. Check your Absolute Sandman books.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Just my luck to look at the thread today after not checking this for quite a while, and see the cheapgraphicnovels sale on the last day of its AfterChristmasSale. Now I have an additional and unexpected purchase for $122. Don't know if I should be happy or sad about it But finally decided to get me some of these Omnibus titles. Chose the following:

ASTONISHING X-MEN BY WHEDON & CASSADAY OMNIBUS HC $37.50
CAPTAIN AMERICA BY BRUBAKER OMNIBUS VOL 01 HC $37.50
THOR BY J MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI OMNIBUS HC COIPEL CVR $32.50

Unfortunately there is tax in California, which made me think twice about completing the sale, but really, its the best price I've seen for Omnibus titles even with the tax. So pulled the trigger.

Hope I chose wisely

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

I bit on the cheapgraphicnovels deal too. Went really conservative with stuff that I didn't have in another format already: Captain America Brubaker 2, Sandman 1, and Captain America Omni 1.

Also went to bargaingraphicnovels and finally completed my order for Bone one-volume, and two Essentials (FF5, ASM 5).

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

I was so close to placing another order for the DC Omnis, but finally decided that there will be other sales and others deals in the future. This is the first time in a long time that i have said no... Guess it had to start somewhere. Also helped that I just bought the Twilight Zone deal earlier... No comment there...

Good choice. Placing a second order would have cost you an extra $5.99 in shipping.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Marvel is having a deal tomorrow where if you buy a comic from their Comixology app you will get emailed a $5 coupon the next day good for Marvel comics at participating comic shops.

Since there are always books on sale for 99 cents, this works out to a pretty good deal.

But you have to buy a book from the app tomorrow, and the coupon is only good for a month.

It seems like my order is being shipped in at least 4 parts. Just received Ghost Rider and Captain America. If it is staggered, I can hopefully finish one before the next one arrives.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Not sure if this belongs here, or in the omnibus thread or maybe neither, but Im going to post it in both. I thought this seemed like a good idea, I guess not big enough to be classified as an Omnibus and Im not even sure it is oversized, but I figured I'd just cancel it if we find out it isn't.

I've been getting my Walking Dead HCs and the occasional Marvel TB impulse-buy from this site. It updates once a day (usually at night) and has some pretty decent deals.

So far I've been totally unimpressed by their prices. Any good prices are only capitalized on if you purchase multiple items because otherwise shipping kills the deal. I say you need to buy multiple items at once because the more you buy, the less shipping costs per item. Usually they don't have multiple items I want to buy at the same time, so their price + shipping usually is just whatever Amazon has it for.

My order of three items hasn't shipped yet. I'm ok with it since they said orders would be delayed, but they missed their estimate of 1/10.

Meanwhile I got my order from bargaingraphicneovels.com, again packed as if going to a bomb shelter.

I thought they said THEIR shipment of books was going to be on the 10th. So then it will take a little time to ship them out to the customers.

This seems like a pretty good deal from Tales of Wonder. Star Trek Gold Key Collection combo. All 5 volumes for $25. I'm not a fan but I am sure someone here might be. I had a few of these growing up but can't seem to pull the trigger since I never have been a big Star Trek fan.
