I completely recommend the DC One Million Omnibus for $29.95. That is a great deal.
http://www.hamiltonbook.com/Graphic-...illion-omnibus http://www.hamiltonbook.com/media/im...20/4551362.JPG Another one I'd recommend is this hardcover featuring Superman stories illustrated by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. http://www.hamiltonbook.com/Graphic-...s-garcia-lopez Bought Adventures of Superman: Gil Kane: 11.95 Adventures of Superman: Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez: 11.95 The Art of Bone: 6.95 Before Watchmen, the three they had available, 7.95 each DC Comics Year by Year, a Visual Chronicle (for the kids): 11.95 DC One Million: 29.95 Green Lantern Omnibus Volume 1: 19.95 Green Lantern Omnibus Volume 2: 24.95 Hawkman Omnibus (Geoff Johns): 24.95 Rough Justice: The DC Comics Sketches of Alex Ross (didn't realize it was the softcover, but oh well): 7.95 Superman: the Ultimate Guide to the Man of Steel: 9.95 Zot! 1987-1991: The Complete Black and White Collection: 5.95 I actually passed on the Masterpieces and whatnot because they didn't have them all. The Aparo Batman one was tempting me, though. What else did people get? |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
How could you pass on Aparo's Batman volumes? May you be forced to watch Batman & Robin on an endless loop for all of eternity.
|
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Agree on Aparo. Great price for a large volume, although the later stuff is not as good.
I got the DC One Million, Superman Garcia-Lopez, Absolute Sinestro Corps, Batman Annuals 2 (though I was a little disappointed in the first one, probably because it didn't happen to include stories I remembered), and JLA Showcase 6 (random, but it looks like it might be the period of JLA I used to read). I decided to pass on the GL Omnibuses because I read the first Showcase volume and it was a little dull for me, but maybe the later stories were better. Also, fact is GL doesn't really work in black and white. :) Hamilton Books is a friend of DVDTalk, offering prizes for many of our monthly challenges. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
You guys suck. I passed on Aparo's Batman because they didn't have Breyfogle's volume and there's a second Aparo one coming out, but now I'm on the fence again. I also justified it by thinking that the box is going to already be super heavy. Argh. And I'm pretty sure I made a resolution not to read Before Watchmen that I broke because it was cheap. I'm so weak.
davidh777, you're saying that maybe you didn't like the GL Showcase volumes because they were in B&W, not that the Omnibus is in B&W, right? I hope? |

I just did a check and apparently there's a THIRD Aparo volume coming out this summer. I grew up on Aparo's B&B Batman and love it, but the later stuff I've read is not nearly as good.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
I have found that most Silver Age material from DC doesn't work very well in black-and-white with a handful of exceptions. More than half the reason to read DC Silver Age comics is for the full color art.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Ah, I didn't even realize that the Legends of the Dark Knight series were by creator, for some reason I thought Breyfogle was volume one and volumes 2 and 3 were Aparo. I was also looking at the two Ditko Omniboo, though more at the second one since I'm a big Hawk and Dove fan.

I actually have that Ditko 2, though for the Legion of Super-Heroes stories since that era is not easily available in reprints. I didn't really like Ditko's Legion back then, though, and when I read these my opinion didn't change. I'm already regretting passing on the GL Omniboo. :( The Hawkman Omnibus is a good find, but I already have it from the old Amazon misprice and I still haven't read it. :( The Fantagraphics duck titles are nice, though not that great a deal. One nice under-the-radar title I saw on the Hamilton list for only $7 was the Chris Claremont-John Bolton Marada the She-Wolf. It's gorgeous fantasy, though Bronze Age text-y, and I wish they'd left it black and white. http://comicsonline.com/wp-content/uploads/23.jpg |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
The Hawkman omnibus actually beats the current Comixology 99c per issue sale on the series (though you can pick up the post Johns part of the series there). I figure at that price it's a decent companion to my JSA volumes.
I thought the same on the Fantagraphics Duck titles. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
I have about $500 worth of stuff in my carts at these two places. Trying so hard to resist.....

Which doesn't really fully speak about just how bad his incessant, sometimes half hour long whining about "useless" fellow employees can be, or how power-trippy and condescending he is when refusing to honor verbal agreements made by them (because he wasn't there). They may have some of the best prices, but that guy's a complete jerk and bully. One reviewer mentions the cruelty, and that's probably the best summation of the sort of "business" they run. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
I'm on the CGN sucks bandwagon. I have to admit some of their Omnibus sale prices are tempting, but living in California, the discounts all but disappear after tax and shipping. Other retailers will get these same Omnis for similar prices. CGN just happens to be the first one, for whatever reason.
As for those people wondering about whether or not to get the Brubaker Captain America Omnibuses... If you have the first one and the second one (Death of), you might as well get the rest. Chances are you're going to like it, and I assume you have some idea of Brubaker's writing capabilities plus parts of the story already made the leap to the big screen. Those first two Omnis are OOP and very expensive, and the other ones will all follow suit for sure. |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Fyi, the reason CGN is having that omnibus sale is because Marvel is clearing their warehouses of a ton of old stock. A lot of those books will probably be showing up for similar (and perhaps even better) prices elsewhere. But keep in mind also that once these are gone, they will more or less be out of print. In other words, if you want any of those books, now is the time.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/01/...oung-avengers/ I, of course, just ordered FF Byrne vol.2 from an Amazon third party because a copy finally went for under $60, only for the price to plummet to sub $50 literally the day that I received the book. :( |

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/01/...oung-avengers/ However, I do notice that at least a couple had new printings coming out this year (like the Miller Daredevil), albeit at the $125 price. Also the Bleeding Cool article shows different, generally newer titles. Sounds like there'll be a new Omniboo sale wave to look forward to. |

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about stuff like Miller Daredevil or Spidey vol.1. Those are evergreen titles that will always be available.
And now that I looked at the CGN sale again after reading the Bleeding Cool article, I see they do have the ones listed, like Howard the Duck, Young Avengers, Zomnibus, etc. I was more interested in the classic stuff so I didn't remember having seen them. This also reminds me that I really need to finish the Infinity Gauntlet omnibus I picked up on street week. |

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
I am sort of tempted by the omnibus of Stephen King's The Stand but according to the reviews on Amazon it has shitty binding. If it's going to fall apart whole I'm reading it, I'll have to pass.
|
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
I bit on the Byrne deal. :(
I notice the same Amazon seller has the two original FF volumes for $40 and the third Brubaker CA for $30, so pretty much the same as CGN, but easier to place an order. This is not looking good for me. :( |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Yeah, I wish there were a better way to search Amazon sellers because they usually have the clearanced prices even if Amazon does not.
Wait, nevermind, I have sooo many omnibus's now, I'm not sure I can handle getting all the ones I'm on the fence about (like Young Avengers). If I ever buy Avengers: the Crossing or Acts of Vengeance Crossovers, I know I've gone overboard (and I've been really tempted in the past by stuff like Evolutionary War and Serpent crown) |
Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
Can everyone please delete all posts referring to Omnibus sales? I seriously fear that my comic book room is going to collapse into the lower level if I buy anymore.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals
*SPOILER WARNING FOR PEOPLE READING E-MAIL NOTIFICATIONS OR WHO DON'T WANT TO BE TEMPTED INTO BUYING MORE OMNIBOO*

I notice that Amazon is selling the recent SHIELD omnibus directly for $55. So as far as Brubaker goes, is this the order? Captain America Omnibus Death of Captain America Omnibus Captain America Lives Omnibus Trial of Captain America Omnibus Return of the Winter Soldier Omnibus |
