Instock Trades has the new HCs of Saga and Lazarus for 50% off. Love both series but I think I'm OK with the TPBs.

The seller has it listed under "Very Good" condition, but the copy I ordered arrived in pristine condition (Amazon actually packed it well!) with a small marker dot on the bottom. I think nine copies are left from this seller.

Collecting:
Iron Man (1968) 55; Captain Marvel (1968) 25-33; Marvel Feature (1971) 12; Daredevil (1964) 105-107; Avengers (1963) 125; Warlock (1972) 9-11, 15; Avengers Annual (1967) 7; Marvel Two -In-One Annual 2; material from Logan 's Run 6
This is a good book that I read over the summer, though some of the stories are better fleshed out in the complete Warlock collection that came out recently. I've been meaning to discuss in one of the other threads.

TwoMorrows is having a 50% off sale on it's books and mags.

If you like reference/history/overview books I highly recommend their Chronicle Of American Comic Books series. I've got the 60's pt 2 and 70's volumes (just ordered the rest) and they are a breezy, fun read full of great behind-the-scenes stories. They also do an excellent job of painting the cultural landscape of these eras, putting the material in context to the times. And they survey the entire field, not just Marvel and DC- though those two of course get the main focus once the 60's kick in. Great stuff.

Yep, they have some great books for fans of comic book history. They make great gifts to comic book fans.

Here is Legion Outpost on sale for $8.98:

Originally published in 1972 as the official newsletter of the Legion Fan Club, the Legion Outpost soon became the premier Legion of Super-Heroes fanzine of the 1970s, featuring contributions by fans, pros, and soon-to-be pros. Launched at a time when the future of the Legion of Super-Heroes was in doubt, the Legion Outpost was at the center of fan-based efforts to revive the title, and was largely responsible for its rescue from obscurity, leading to it becoming a runaway best-seller! This trade paperback collects the best material from the hard-to-find fanzine, including rare interviews and articles from creators such as Dave Cockrum, Cary Bates, and Jim Shooter, plus never-before-seen artwork by Cockrum, Mike Grell, Jimmy Janes and others! It also features a previously unpublished interview with Keith Giffen originally intended for the never-published Legion Outpost #11, plus other new material! And it sports a rarely-seen classic 1970s cover by Legion fan favorite artist Dave Cockrum!

There are only two copies left as of this posting...$20 shipped for a brand-new copy of Absolute Identity Crisis:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261669091524

I've never seen it this cheap. The feedback rating isn't the best, but the seller has an actual picture of the book in its original shipping carton.

Wow, I really want that. But I already own it in at least two different formats, and haven't even read it yet.

That's insanely cheap. But DC did do a lot of clearance earlier this year including several Absolutes (including Identity Crisis). Maybe more will come out as cheap as Black Friday nears.

It's one of the best DC stories of the new Century.

Identity Crisis is one of those things you have to push ahead of your backlog.

Really? Even with the rape and lobotomy?

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Yeah, not to derail anything, but I view Identity Crisis as the moment that put DC on the path to me hardly reading anything they publish (basically just Batman). In its wake there was a lot of rape, people getting their arms ripped out and endless crying superheroes.

But $20 is an awesome deal.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

The story can't help that DC's management decided to unleash the floodgates of overly graphic storytelling after its success. It deconstructed the Justice League tropes found in Silver Age and Bronze Age comics, laying them out if you took them to their logical conclusion. The story on its own was great. I agree that it unleashed a wave of terrible imitations, as DC thought its success implied every comic needed brutal twists and graphic violence.

I honestly don't know if I have ever bought a bad book from Twomorrows. I am an avid subscriber to both Back Issue! and Alter Ego.

I bought the 1950's book at a previous sale and finished out the collection with this sale. The Marvel of the 60's and 70's are great too. All of their companion books are great (picked up the Flash one in this sale as well) and I highly recommend their Modern Masters series too. As you can tell, I love Twomorrows. I actually enjoy reading comic history nowadays as to reading today's comics.

Trevor, methinks you may want to check out this particular issue of Back Issue!: http://twomorrows.com/index.php?main...oducts_id=1161

And I took a chance on that Absolute Edition of Identity Crisis. I have never read it and have a few of the other Absolutes so for 20 bucks, I couldn't pass it up. Let's hope the seller isn't as bad as some of the feedback says. Though to shop these heavy books costs a lot even with media mail. The guy is making zero money after fees and shipping so it really makes me wonder about it.

Thanks for this, noticed they had a copy at gohastings so added it to a %40 off order for $5.50+ shipping (we'll see what I get I guess).

Yeah, I know. It's my bizarre whatever OCD. I started it once, but then decided I had missed too much of the DC history during my comic sabbatical and I need to read things in chronological order as much as possible. I know it's a self contained story and doesn't need that; but last year I decided to trek thru DC history hitting all the big crossover events in order.

That's on hold with these Challenges now of course...

I'm a mess.

Yeah, TwoMorrows is the bomb.

I'm a Back Issue subscriber and I consider it a magazine that a bunch of strangers create just for me. It's like heaven in my mailbox.

I haven't seen that particularly issue yet. I knew it was coming, and know it'll make my week, but it's buried under other mail I guess.

There is still one of those Identity Crisises left, tempting me.

Identity Crisis could have been published in 1990, the story is completely self-contained as long as one understands Justice League history up through the Bronze Age.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Reading reviews of the Absolute Identity Crisis I think I can hold off. The ~$20 price seems to be the new norm, and this version adds no new real content over what I already have.

But yes, I resolve to read it in 2015. We need to firm up the Challenges. Those are really going to be helpful in helping me get thru my backlog and stay active in reading.

You'll get a remainder marked copy. Got one myself the other week. The actual condition of the book depends on how poorly they package it to ship to you. They're a downright awful company when it comes to packaging/shipping.

Which is why I don't order books from GoHastings unless I completely don't care about keeping it.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Hastings is a shit company.

Their stores suck, too. I remember buying CDs and records from their store in the mall. They eventually moved out of the mall into a larger store and started selling books and renting VHS. All of their books, even the new releases, were all scuffed and dented and looked like old warehouse stock. Also seemed like the bulk of their CD stock was used at that point, too. Between all of the beat up books, used CDs (with holes punched in the booklets), and faded VHS covers the place looked like a shithole.

Upcoming Amazon lightning deal at noon Pacific. Batman Death of the Family book and Joker mask set.

EDIT: Gold Box price is $16.51, so about $6 more than the TPB itself. unless you really want the mask.

That mask looks a lot better than the simple/cheap Court of Owls one.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Just a heads up- The B&N 30% off coupons go live soon. Although most people on this forum are likely to use them on DVDs/Bds, especially with the Criterion sale- a good deal in books right now is the just released Taschen 75 Years Of Marvel which has a $200 msrp, but can be had for $83 with the coupon.

I got my copy in today and, while I have quibbles with the choices of, and preferential treatment given, some illos over others, it's really an outstanding book- and a work of art in itself. I've seen the similar Levitz DC book (there's nearly a page by page look at it on youtube if you haven't), and I would say that overall this one here betters it , thanks primarily to rascally Roy's generous and authoritative text. Well worth $83 (+tx) at least.

I just wish I hadn't ripped the box flap trying to open it GRRRRR - speaking of which, this thing shipped out from B&N essentially triple boxed. There is the illustrated box with the handle the book comes in, which itself was inside a box from Tashen with extra padding, which was then put in another box by B&N with more padding. Should be no worries from anyone about receiving it in less than stellar condition.

Yeah, I want this to go with my oversized 75 years of DC book but it hasn't dipped below $115 on Amazon yet. Do you need to me a b&n member to get it for the 83 bucks?

Nope, it's an all access coupon. Just use BFRIDAY14 .

It's still showing up as $118.18 (which knocks down to $83 after taking off the 30%)- but they could changed that at any time. I wouldn't waffle if you want it.
