Thanks for the advice! I'll go ahead and finish the compendium then. October is a long way off.

Just read TPB 14, through issue 84, and see what people were talking about in #83--
Spoiler:
sort of what I had expected from the discussion, though we'll see how things get resolved
.

Crap, this series is so unrelenting. I feel right along with the survivors--just when they think they get a break, something happens, maybe just a small mistake, and they're right back in it again. Fortunately for me, I can always stop reading, unlike them. But it's too good to stop.

I may have said this before here, but I got the compendium about a week before the massive snowstorm in the northeast in feb 2010 and then read it while snowed in that week...I think the trapped feeling added to the experience.

I just ordered a used copy of the Walking Dead Compendium from gohastings for 11.99 and it says it shipped.

Nice! Hope you "enjoy" it after our discussions in the main thread. Despite my complaints, I still consider it a must-read.

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

Yeah, for that price it was worth the jump. (granted, I could still end up with some random volume instead, with the way gohastings is run)

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

Hope that doesn't happen. If your package arrives and you break your back picking it up, they sent the correct item.

I arrived home to find that big sucker waiting for me. :)

Sadly, it'll probably be weeks before I even start it though.

We've got a January 10 date for TPB 15--man, this is tough waiting for current series to be collected!

And I guess this is a "book book" coming out. High list price for a book book.

Typical hardcover book price. A paperback will probably be released next year for $8 list.

Guess that shows how often I read book books

I was hoping to start buying the HCs at some point, but it's just been cheaper to buy the TPBs. Plus, lame as it sounds, I don't know about waiting a year for the HC once I catch up. I took a peak at a HC at the bookstore and besides the color covers, I noticed it had a Christmas story with the man and boy Rick originally runs into after leaving the hospital. Are there more than a few of these extra stories that didn't make their way into the TPBs?

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

That's the only one I remember. It was in a Christmas special Image put out in 2005 or so.

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

Just got and read TPB #15, comprising issues 85-90!

And now I have to wait for the next one.

For what should be a one-note concept, this series is still bringing it for me.
Spoiler:
There were hardly any walkers in this volume, but a lot still happened. #90 ended up with two characters going where I thought they'd go, but it was still ambiguous enough for me to want to know what happens next. I might be forced into buying one floppy like I did for Invincible just so I could just end one hanging plot point.

It's funny that your spoiler is also extremely vague. :p

I know! I don't want to spoil things for the compulsive spoiler-clickers who (like me) certainly deserve whatever they get. :) Plus I wasn't sure anyone really wanted to discuss.

The origin of Michonne will be told by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard in six pages, and printing in next week’s issue of Playboy. - Bleeding Cool

Fantastic! Another reason to buy Playboy.

Just read TPB 16 (issues 91-96) and I have no idea what I was so worked up about after #15  I guess I'll have to go back to see what the hanging plot point was.

I have to say that despite some interesting points (they're running out of food because people stopped making canned goods years ago), this volume felt a little stale to me, and the main development felt recycled. Not shocking after nearly 100 issues--and I'll keep reading--but a little disappointing.

Ah, I just checked #15 again. I remembered what happened in it (
Spoiler:
Rick-Andrea kiss
), but since that ended the volume, I expected #16 to pick right up where that left off, and it didn't--it jumped ahead and kinda dismissed it.

I agree. I'm not one of these people who insist on more zombies, but it basically took six issues to introduce a new group of people. Hard to believe Kirkman needed 120 pages to do that.

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

It wasn't really about the new people. It was about Rick (and others) working through the trust questions. Arguably a little redundant since it plays on some of the same themes as when Rick and the rest of his group arrived at the village a few trades ago, but I think there was plenty of content in those 120 pages.
