I'm about a month behind in buying comics. My shop said they'd hold my box as long as I needed them too.

Anyway, I saw a rumor over at DC's message boards that Green Arrow and Black Canary may get back together and marry. The general feeling over there was although they're were a great couple no one really wants to see this now. I agree.

Has anyone else heard this?

So if I want to talk about last month's haul (because I get my shipment monthly) should I resurrect the old thread, or just use this one?

On a side note, I've heard people raving about the new Justice League title, but I'm really having a hard time getting into it. I'm not sure if it's the writing or the art, but I feel like they're putting out the major plot points ok, they're just not connecting to make a good story for some reason, if that makes any sense.

I'd say just continue the discussion in here.

As for JLA, I can't get into it either. The story is moving at a snail's pace. Now if it had characters I cared about, maybe that wouldn't be so bad. Unfortunately it's mainly a bunch of second-stringers that I don't give a damn about.

People are actually raving about the Justice League? It was my biggest disappointment of recent books. I've seen little but really negative word on it. I've given up on it myself -- You get the impression prose author Brad Meltzer is trying to write a comic like a novel, but he has little understanding of the language of comics. Muddled narration, terrible transitions and awful pacing. There's some cool ideas here and I do rather like the art, but far too little payoff for my reduced comic spending dollars. Grant Morrison's JLA in the 1990s did epic, fast-paced and world-shattering adventure much better.

You have just about stated my thoughts about Meltzer on JLA. It's not bad, it's just not as good as I thought it was going to be. I think JSA is a much better read personally, and if Meltzer continues to disappoint in the next 1 or 2 issues I will drop the title.

Also, did anyone pick up Thunderbolts #110 this week? I spotted it but was unsure about the title now with Ellis writing it. His regular superhero(or supervillian in this case) stuff seems a little...lacking.

52 WEEK #36

AGENTS OF ATLAS #1-6 - I've heard really good stuff about this, so now that it's finished I'll check it out.

BATMAN #662

BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #2 -Haven't even read 1 yet.

BLADE #5 - I actually think it already has been cancelled, which is a shame b/c I think it's the best take on the character in comics, maybe ever.

BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL #121 - Always amazing.

GODLAND #15 - Maybe the best monthly title being published, & I think I'm actually the only one besides the writer that reads this book. I'm not even too sure if the artist reads it.

GREEN ARROW #70 - Please oh please let Winnick have the sudden urge to stop writing comics.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #8

JSA CLASSIFIED #21

JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #2 - I'm still against the relaunch but the first issue was great.

NEW X-MEN #34 - Very underrated comic. It's good fun.

RUNAWAYS #23

STAR WARS KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC #12

STAR WARS LEGACY #7

THUNDERBOLTS #110 - Never been a fan of Deadato, been reading T-bults since #1 of the original series & I actually have been diggin' the current series, but I'll gladly welcome Ellis on the book.

WELCOME TO TRANQUILITY #2 - First issue was OK but I'm kind of realizing I don't like Gail Simone's stuff as much as I thought. I love BoP, but I rarely like anything else she does.

WOLVERINE ORIGINS #10 - Best Wolverine book in years. I know it's trendy among comic geeks to hate Wolverine, but I couldn't care less. I've always loved the character & the comics & always will. It's great to finally have a decent Wolvie book.
Despite our minor quibbles before I certainly agree with many of your opinions. I guess Bendis is a love/hate thing =P

Batman Confidential is a weak book that has extremely limited potential, especially given that Legends of the Dark Knight has been a stellar title (at times) for so long now.

Totally agree about Godland.

JSA is already re-establishing itself as DC's best continuing series and one of the best team superhero books in nearly a decade since the relaunch. Johns at his best.

New X-men has been an amazing book since the Tsunami relaunch of New Mutants. Oh, if only the core X-men books were written this well.

Wolverine: Origins is my guilty pleasure. I picked it up for the art and because i'm a Daniel Way fan. But the plotting and pacing have been fantastic, and every month it finds its way into my pull list. You know what I love most about this series? YOU DON'T EVEN CARE ABOUT THE RETCONS!

Are you against the relaunch because of numbering issues, or because of changes to the team? I'm still trying to catch up reading the last run, so I'm not really aware of any changes.

I also agree with those who aren't taken by Justice League of America. It isn't bad, but it isn't clicking for me either. It's good to see Grundy being used though. I really liked Benes' cheesecake art of Birds of Prey, but it isn't working for me on JLA. Maybe it's the inker or colorist, but it looks so much darker.

I don't understand why they had to relaunch the series. Just changing the team doesn't necessitate a new series of the book. I'm still enjoying it though. JSA was sort of the surprise for me when I got back into comics and I'm still enjoying the way the new series is starting off.

I had never read JSA before the relaunch, but I may go back and pick up some of the old trades if the old stuff is as good as the new. Johns' writing has been phenomenal and the artwork by Eaglesham is amazing. The panel with Hawkman was just beautiful - I am so looking forward to issue 3 after the reveal that
Spoiler:
Starman is someone from Kingdom Come
, though I can't tell who he's supposed to be.

Not at all, he definitely is not a love/hate type of writer. That is my problem with him. EVERYONE loves the guy's stuff. Well everyone but me. People are always shocked when I say how much I hate the guy. But it's funny, I always explain my reasons, & even those that love him agree with me & know what I mean. It's why I feel that something about the retarded way he writes dialogue brainwashes people. It don't read his stuff, that's why I'm not affected.

Totally agree about Godland.
Nice, so you are the other guy that buys the book. While I am literally years behind some books, Godland is one of the few comics that I run home & read the second I get it. [/quote]

Yeah, I'm very against it b/c of the numbering since I had every single issue. But my main reason is b/c I hate, hate, hate, pointless relaunches. I hate any relaunch, but I can at least understand it for a low selling, acclaimed comic like Runaways to up initial sales, or a book going in a drastically new direction with a new creative team. But JSA was consistantly a top selling comic, really never had a down moment since issue #1 in how good it always has been, it's not a drasctically new direction, & it's the same writer that has pretty much always been on it. Plus the book always had a rotating team & it has tons of trades if people want to get caught up. It's a pointless relaunch, the first few issues will have huge numbers & then it will just drop down to where it's always been.

Then on the other side, you have a comic like the last issue of Thunderbolts with a completely new creative team, a completely new team of Thunderbolts, in a completely new direction, on a rather low selling comic & they keep the old numbering.

It was pretty darn good. If you are going the trade route, my favorites are:
4,7,8,10
I honestly think I appreciated the first three better after having read some of the later stuff. But, in reality, I think they are all worth a read.

I've heard similar complaints about his writing - and i've noticed it myself - but I liked his actual storylines and plotting on Daredevil, as well as the amazingly gritty neo-noir art. The dialog wasn't attractive to me so much as how it was executed so much as what it was composed of. Regardless, i'm not a Bendis fan around the board.

Godland, The Goon trades, Y: The Last Man, Invincible, and Walking Dead are always on top of my pile. I run to them like a dog in heat.

My pull list has gotten extraordinarily short. I used to pull tons of comics every month but every week i've gotten less and less until i've hit less than 10 comics. Still, I love what I read.

I think Bendis could be really good if he would cut his workload and pay more attention to just a few titles. If you start with Ultimate Spider-man #1 and read through the series you can pretty much track his writing as it goes downhill as he takes on other projects.

I agree. At one point didn't he have like 8 books he was writing? I've stopped reading his mainstream works as I am pretty bored with them now. The only book of his I still read is Powers, which is still very good after 5+ years.

It would have been comical if they restarted Thunderbolts after only shifting the numbering on it back to the old numbering system not too long ago.

One thing this relaunch did was to make me drop the book in monthly format. I figure it'll get the trade treatment anyway. Picked up the first issue, and figured I can wait to read it.

For some odd reason, if they had just kept the numbering, the collector in me would have continued to buy the individual issues. Weird, I know.

After finally dropping Supergirl (and probably JLA), the only individual issues I'll have left are:
52 (will see it to the end at this poitn)
Savage Dragon (since the reprints are so late)
Teen Titans
Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes

DC got around to finally revealing what 52 is.

Good luck deciphering the riddle.

For the bored, here's a link to figuring out the answer.

Whoopie.

JSA #2 was quite nice, thought.

I've been a huge Savage Dragon fan for a long time. I always thought the art and storytelling was top notch. However, it's become really really hard to find and the scheduling was tough to keep up with. It's sad because it's been a guilty pleasure of mine for YEARS.

I wanted to read the last volume before jumping on to the new run, but I read the first two issues anyway and...damn! They knocked my socks off.

I wish I did wait a bit though as I'm dying to read the next issue now.

Yeah, SD is pretty hard to find... a lot of the issues I missed (when I was in college, without a good comic store nearby) I've had a hard time finding, and the reprints come out infrequently. Also the schedule since Larsen became Image publisher or whatever has been really off and on... it's really a book that you need to reserve at your local store (or monthly mailorder) to make sure they order a copy for you.
