I think everyone is just thinking it HAS to get better, then you realize, no it only gets worse...Some of us just hold out hope a little bit longer.

Well, I posted earlier because I really do wonder whether anyone can make sense of this title (Supergirl). I know there was some kind of behind-the-scenes writer controversy or something, but it's almost like they got bits and pieces of art from separate storylines and decided to paste it all together,making up the dialogue on the spot.

I still love Supergirl and the Legion, though.

Got Pride of Bahgdad last night and read it this morning...I stayed on the local train just to finish it. Such a great book. Not overly political but just a great, well told story.

ARG! I forgot about Pride of Bahgdad. I remember seing some preview art and thinking it looked gorgeous. How long is it?

The art is indeed gorgeous - that was $20 well spent. The book is about 136 pages but it absolutely flies by. And once you've read it once, you'll probably go right back and read it again. It is THAT good.

Captain America #21: Another knockout issue from Brubaker. I can't wait to see what he does with Bucky now that him and Nick Fury are working together.

Incredible Hulk #98: What an ending! Throughout all of Planet Hulk we've heard about the enigmatic Spikes and now they're back! Time for Hulk to kick some ass and get ready to come home for World War Hulk next year.

Ex Machina #23: Another incredible issue from BKV, who is probably my favorite working writer in comics today. Everything he touches seems to turn to gold. He's one of the only writers I can remember working on 3+ monthly books and still turn out quality in each and every one of them. A great ending to this issue, and I cannot wait to see where he goes with the "Smoke, Smoke" storyline.

I think it's okay. Not Chuck Austen bad, and not Chris Clairmont bad, but just okay. It's nothing to write home about but considering how bad the core x-men titles have been in the past few years it's definitely an improvement. Normally I hate Bachalo's art but it's actually grown on me a bit.

No Invincible for two months. I'm sad.

Astonishing X-men is getting to be just as bad as the rest of the X-men books. Unintelligible, meaningless villain team ups that seem awkward, sub-standards "twists", undoing other writers' work, harkening back to the "golden age" of the X-men instead of trying to build them a decent future.

Okay, it's been said a million times, but wth is going on in Supergirl? I won't say what everyone else said though but I will say this: if DC wanted Supergirl canned for the UPTEENTH TIME and have the character AGAIN fall into the wayside where all fans do is clamor for her disappearance, then they should keep doing what they're doing!

I agree. It's too bad they're screwing with such a cool character with so much potential.

Not sure if there's another issue out since the last one I got (number 9). Went back and read the end of issue 8 just to make sure I wasn't crazy. But really, there is no flow between issues. I thought it was mainly the delay and change in writers (?) that made the early issues of this book unreadable (it started out as Supergirl meets other superheroes and fights them). But this one year later in Kandor with Powergirl stuff just didn't make any sense at all, and then they tied it into a story (that was confusing on it's own) from the Superman/Batman book. Then issue 9 doesn't even conclude the story from issue 8 (though it does touch on it via ANOTHER hero vs. hero fight).

Maybe it's just me. A year or so ago (before or at the start of Infinite Crisis), there were a bunch of DC superhero titles that I either loved or looked forward to enough that I collected the issues: JSA, JSA classified, the new Supergirl book, Superman/Batman, Teen Titans, Legion of Superheroes. I'll give the new JSA a try, even though the end of the last incarnation was terrible, but of those books, only Legion of Superheroes is a must-read for me every week.

Yeah, I got totally lost when she showed up in Kandor with Power Girl. The last issue did feel like a, "ok, we got that shit out of the way so let's get back to having fun with Supergirl", so I'm hopeful.



I feel ya. Out of the titles mentioned I only read JSA, JSA:Classified, and Supergirl regularly. I'm really looking forward to the JSA relaunch and I hope they don't screw with it too much.

Is anybody else having extreme trouble locating Pride of Baghdad? I ordered on Amazon on Aug 31, and now the release date is "unconfirmed", so I cancelled that. Barnes and Nobles doesn't have it, and neither does my LCS (in terms of getting shipments at all).

I'm pretty sure that the early issues of the title were all written by Jeph Loeb--it was indeed unreadable. I kind of liked the first Kandor issue with Power Girl, mainly because Supergirl herself was actually tolerable for once, and the interaction between the two Karas was interesting, with PG in a mature "big sister" role. But plotwise, I had no idea WTF was going on, so I can just imagine what new readers (that were meant to be drawn in by OYL) must have thought.

The change in writers in mid-story probably didn't help, and I too hated the fact that they tied it in to that Superman/Batman storyline, though I'm generally irked by anything that refers to Loeb's run on that title.

The solicits for upcoming issues of Supergirl sound boring as hell. I really like the way Waid writes her in LOSH, so I'm praying that he's given her solo title soon.

I was lucky to grow up with a comic shop where DC was considered cool (mid/late-80s), and where "Marvel zombies" were routinely mocked (in a good-humored way). Sigh....RIP, Big Apple Comics.

The story actually makes sense to me because I read the "Godfall" arc in the Superman books a few years back. It was just as confusing although that story was much much better pacing and plot wise.

I too am enjoying Supergirl in LOSH. It's like having the pre-crisis Supergirl back.

Also, this week's Green Lantern rocked. I felt iffy about this title but the last storyline was brilliant. It's surprising to see Johns write in such a dramatic way, on such a huge scale - he presents ideas and humor that's normally reserved for the likes of Warren Ellis and Grant Morrison. It's great to see the Corps again after so long, and he gives it a great scale and grandeur that makes it seem both unique and yet so fitting for the DCU. The "space cops" theme is especially well done, and I like the diversity of characters. Now only if the actual Green Lantern Corps BOOK was written like this, I might enjoy it more. One of the quotes had me on the floor:

"...no reading, no eating, no talking, no ring messaging, no sudoku, no yelling, no chewing gum... and listen closely to this one: no drinking"

OMG that sounded like my freshman orientation in college for classroom conduct.

Astonishing X-Men 17 - a bit trippy with Kitty going nuts to protect her child, and it ends with a bang.

Birds of Prey 98 - As the ladies rope in "Batgirl", they are left with more questions, and Yasemin proves to have a lethal appetite.

Civil War 4 - while the death of a minor character wasn't all that eventful for me, I did like the split in the Reed household. The art looked really 'thick' and not as tight for some reason.

Still need to get to 52 and Superman.

Civil War #4: The artwork looked a little rushed at times, which is strange considering the delay that was put on this issue. I wonder if issue #5 will ship late also. That aside, this was a top-notch issue. The ass-kicking that "Thor" hands down to the Secret Avengers is something to see, but the real meat of the issue is toward the end when we find out Reed's plan with the new Thunderbolts, and with An amazing issue overall, even with the (sometimes)spotty artwork.

Astonishing X-Men #17: Joss knocks it out of the park again, as does John Cassady. I love how Joss is intertwining his story with Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men from a while ago. I also love the reveal of the SWORD mole within the Xavier Institute, as well as the little moments like Wolverine getting hit on the head with a beer can and coming out of his English schoolgirl "trance", and finally Cyclops I look forward to seeing where Joss goes with this arc as there is a lot to resolve, and a lot of questions still to answer.

My friend and I were talking about Civil War #4 all throughout yesterday afternoon. We both loved Cap's line:

Is anyone else still reading Checkmate? I thought the first few issues of the series were...OK, but slightly dull, but the latest one is good. I always liked the concept of the Suicide Squad, and I'm pretty psyched by their return.

I'm reading it. I love it and I didn't find it dull at all. I like the Geo-political aspect and the Metahuman/Human-What's Right/What's wrong balancing act of the organization. I haven't read the latest issue.

Astonishing X-Men #17: Anyone else catch the visual reference to the greatest "B" movie of all time, Flash Gordon?

I went to the Post Office today to see why I haven't received this shipment (Alias Omnibus replacement) and discovered it's being returned to you. This is due to you not using my new address since Media Mail won't be forwarded. This is the 4th email requesting that you update your records. I updated them on the main site as well last month, but the last DHL of my monthly shipment was still sent to my old apartment number. Fortunately nobody had moved in yet so it was fairly easy to retrieve my books. I am having a hard time comitting to order the November books when I don't even know if I will recieve September's yet! I have defended DCBS on forums and let you know about customer complaints - please don't start letting me down like this!

So at some point next week my replacement copy of the Alias Omnibus will arrive at your facility. Please ship it to my new address. Only the apartment number has changed.
