Depending on the category, if we were doing greatest close-ended series, I'd vote Transmet or Preacher...both top-notch. I never got all the way through Sandman, tho what I read was good stuff

In terms of a story, my vote will go to Daredevil: Born Again.

Love, love, love that story.

re Nausicaa - yeah, me too.

Sandman is way up there. And just as a 'personal favorite', the Legion of Super Heroes had some pretty good runs (although my favorites were in the 1960s...)

Maus rules, too.

Then again, I like things like Bone by Jeff Smith and Akiko by Mark Crilley - so non-super hero stuff always appeals to me. Hell, I WROTE a published story for Akiko, so of course I'd like it!

Surprised no one mentioned "Crisis on Infinite Earths" - maybe not the greatest, but given all the BAD 'shake things up series' - a really nice story, with tons of homage and a farewell to Flash and Supergirl.

it is Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns doesn`t hold up after 20 years like Watchmen does.I just reread these a few month back, Dark Knight Returns felt dated and I wondered why a made a big fuss about it when it came out, while Watchmen was like wow! the Watchmen is our Citizen Kane and Casablanca.

I voted for Season of Mists.

I found this copy at Jim Haley's Universe in New York the summer of 1993. I had passed on it when it came out earlier that year. I was in town for a Great Eastern Convention. Neil Gaiman was scheduled to sign at the event. I come to find out that there are people in the Jacob Javits convention hall passing out coupons for Gaiman's autograph. I spent hours hunting down a coupon for the next day.

So the next day I go get my copy of Season of Mists autographed by Gaiman. After gushing about how much I loved his work (like a little bitch), he asks me my name and proceeds to draw Morpheus on the inside of the jacket and he personalizes my book. He spent a good five minutes on this, drawing "oohs" and "ahhs" from those around us.

Later that year, I find out that Kelley Jones and Matt Wagner will be signing at a convention at the University of Houston. When Jones sees what Gaiman has done, he says something to the affect of "I can't let Neil out do me can I?" He proceeds to draw.

Matt Wagner also produced a doodle in the book.

Needless to say, this copy of Season of Mists is my most treasured autographed item.

I think Watchmen is the best comic I've read and I think it'll remain that way.
