Wow, that is a decent mail order service. They give a great discount for large orders, alot better than my local B&M comic store. Seeing all the price increases on comic books these days I am giving serious thought to going mail order. Even paying for shipping it is still cheaper. I love the free 52 series, I easily buy at least 20-30 titles monthly so the series would be free...Nice site!

For some reason, it deeply bothers me that Rob Liefeld is still getting mainstream DC and Marvel work. I wanted to punch whoever put him on Teen Titans.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man is right up there with Uncanny X-men for "comic books that I have an insatiable thirst to read but can't because I know it's going to be a waste of time". It's a shame since a Peter David/Mike Weiringo Spider-man book would have topped my list years ago.

Captain Atom Armageddon continues to be a great little mini that nobody cares about. Though my interest has left a bit of the book (it probably could of been a 6 or 7 issue mini instead of 9) it really continues to deliver. The tease for the next issue has me uber jazzed!

I'm digging the OYL Superman story as well. I feel like I've seen variations of the last page of issue four in the DC universe a zillion times already, but it still works for me.

The new Moon Knight was ok. It's my first introduction to the character so it did what it had to. I'm interested enough to see where at least the first storyline goes. And FYI - Batman can so to kick this guys ass! -wink-

MBoyd 04-16-06 08:50 AM

I like Captain Atom! I hadn't read any WildCATS since the mid 90s and I've never read any Authority. It's gotten me curious about the latter.

I've been a huge Captain Atom fan at least since I got to know him back in the "Funny days" of Justice League Europe. I've been getting the issues for this series but I'm not gong to read the issues until I get the last one.

I like the Wildcats tv series and I see they appear in Armageddon so I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

Giantrobo 04-16-06 09:10 AM

Hey, does anyone else snicker or just plain laugh out loud everytime you see that Jackass Superboy "prime" and his stupid "solar suit".:lol:

Giantrobo 04-16-06 09:12 AM

Let me ask this again... The DC Infinite Crisis isn't having any affect on the Vertigo world right?

Hell, what "earth" would the Vertigo world be? :p

Meaning Cassandra probably knew what she was doing by putting her on the hook over the pit by the expression on her face but who knows.

Anyway, I still don't understand why they ended Cassandra's Batgirl run. I'm sure I'm alone in this but I really liked her as Batgirl. I read the "No man's land" novelizatoin of the comic storyline and I've kept up with her over the years to some degree. So just when this Crisis shit pulled me in and got me reading Batgirl and liking the series they fuckin' end her run.

:grunt:

Yep. I hated it. I think a lot of people liked her character. Sounds like we are going to find out what happens to her in
Spoiler:
the May issue of Robin - and it looks like the League of Assassians is involved. Also, 52 #11 is to feature "the new protector of Gotham", which may be her.

MBoyd 04-16-06 11:21 AM

I'll probably be flamed but I really wanted Babs back as Batgirl. :)

Yeah I don't think it has any affect. Dan Didio seems to want to keep them separate. OF course that didn't stop us seeing Swamp Things hand in IC#6 and a mention of him in Robinson's Detective.

Didio says he doesn't want kids seeking out these comics after seeing the characters in the DCU. Hmm . . . ok. That might happen 2 or 3 times IMO.

I'd be willing to bet that if Swamp Thing and Constantine were brought back into the regular DCU sales would sky rocket. I know I'd be interested.

Frenzy 04-16-06 11:57 AM

Is the Bone: One Volume Edition going out-of-print? It seems to me the prices for that thing are going up.

Yeah, I guess since Swamp Thing is a "Mystical" character what with him being a "elemental" and all, I guess it makes sense to have some minor appearance in the crisis. However, I also saw a few appearences of a VERY obscure character called <b>Black Orchid</b> in one or two crisis books. I think, and I could be wrong, her character was one of the early Vertigo books to be published when Vertigo was started up. I also guess she goes back and forth between Vertigo and the Regular DC line.

Are you referring to the hardcover edition or the softcover edition? The hardcover goes for $150-$225 on Ebay. I still kick myself for not picking one up when the price was low ($95-$100 when it first came out, via Ebay book vendors).

I'm still miffed that I pre-ordered a softcover edition and got a second printing because Jeff Smith set the initial print run before all the orders came in just so he'd have some copies on-hand for Comicon that year. Boo!

The softcover edition. Amazon (Germany) didn't list the version anymore (though I can still buy it through marketplace).

Superboy 04-16-06 03:49 PM

I got the softcover Bone for only $20 at a used bookstore. Fantastic read.

I just got the hardcover Identity Crisis. Some of the dialog really had me laughing hard.

Superboy 04-16-06 04:11 PM

BTW regarding Captain Atom, he's quite possibly one of the most underused characters in the modern DCU. He's like a cross between Captain America and Superman.

Too true. I'm pretty new to the guy, but it seems like he could make "the big seven" into "the big eight" if handled by the right writer. I'm hoping they raise his role in the DCU after they spin him out of this mini - however they do it.

Robo, a lot of the appeal in the mini is seeing how he interacts with the mainstays of the Wild Storm Uni, but I think you can go in knowing nothing about any of them and still enjoy it. Be sure to let me know what you thought when you get around to reading it.

And I thought Swamp Thing made a cameo in IC 6?

He was the leader of JLEurope. Also, didn't Moore say that the Blue Guy in THE WATCHMEN was Captain Atom?

Yeah, I'm just waiting to read it because I can blaze through comics if I'm not careful. So I'd rather read it all at once. Plus with all the comics I'm reading now having to remember what happened in the last month's issue is a pain.

fujishig 04-17-06 11:15 AM

Captain Atom was also the leader of the better-off-forgotten Justice League EXTREME, which at least brought Firestorm back to the DC universe.

Also, Watchmen was clearly based off of the Charlton characters that DC got the rights to: Blue Beetle 1 & 2(Nite Owl 1 & 2), Captain Atom ( Dr. Manhattan), Question (Rorshach), Nightshade (Silk Spectre), Peacemaker (the Comedian), Thunderbolt (Ozymandias). I think DC and/or Moore nixed the idea because all of them were being integrated into the DC universe, but I think it worked out better with original characters.

Justice League Extreme? Never heard of this...or maybe I did, it kinda sounds familiar.

Yeah I couldn't remember all the characters they were based on. That's interesting info.

Wonder Woman spoiler in the new solicits?

Spoiler:
The shocks continue as Wonder Girl confronts the all-new Wonder Woman, challenging the position she's assumed in the DCU.

I wonder . . .

bishop2knight 04-17-06 07:56 PM

Anyone notice that Supergirl was pushed back yet again AND Rucka is no longer the writer AND Benes is no longer the artist. What's the deal with that title?

MBoyd, what do you wonder? :D

MBoyd 04-17-06 08:19 PM

Someone speculated it must be Rucka's workload. How much longer is that going to be a top selling book with these delays and changes?

Heinberg said WW was definitely Diana . . . but this? I don't know what to think. What a tease.

Donna Troy? Power Girl?

Ummm, wasn't Diana the last one? So maybe no one wants her because of what she did to Max?

Spoiler:
It could just be Diana reinventing herself. It could also be a Temporary WW. Perhaps that's the reason why Wonder Girl is challenging her.
