I bought the paperback a week before the movie came out. I have a feeling I wouldn't have enjoyed the film nearly as much had I not read it first. That universe is way too dense to fully absorb in one theatrical viewing.

I've read it when I was younger it was released in the 80's I think and I didn't understood it very well in the first run but I later read it again and got the story and conclusions.

If anyone is up for rereading it, I would recommend reading along with the Comic Geek Speak podcast episodes (free on ITunes). It's like listening to a good audio commentary, and I learned a lot of things that I missed the first few times around.
