Looking to get into Batman comics again, any suggestions?

I haven't really picked up a Batman comic/graphic novel/any thing else in about 10 years (since Knightfall). I don't even know what titles are available (I'm assuming there is still a Batman bi-monthly, hopefully still a Detective Comics also).

Can anybody recommend a current series, or (more importantly) something good I might have missed over the past 10-12 years? Thanks in advance.

There have been a lot of arcs like:

The Long Halloween (12 month arc)

No Man's Land (Gotham has an earthquake and is zoned off from any help and left to rot with villians taking over different sections of Gotham)

Hush (A new villian emerges, done by the same people that did Long Halloween)

Broken City - done by the people behind 100 Bullets comic

I'm sure there are others I am forgetting. You can get most of these in Paperback at your local bookstore or an online bookstore. No Man's Land is the longest of them, clocking in at 5 Paperback volumes I believe.

Currently the Batman comics have an arc called War Games going on.

The Batman family of books would be:

BATMAN
DETECTIVE COMICS
LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT
GOTHAM KNIGHTS
NIGHTWING
ROBIN
BATGIRL
CATWOMAN

The first 4 would be mainly Batman stories while the others are obvious offshoots from the family. BIRDS OF PREY is arguably part of the Batman family as well, as it shares one key character with Batman.

War Games probably wouldn't be a good place to jump in because I've read that all the issues are important and that would probably be a little overwhelming. OTOH, I think getting all the No Man's Land tpbs would be a good idea. It was a pretty good story and I imagine it'd be easier to read than having to track down a bunch of different individual issues. Cataclysm and Contagion are prequels to NML, but I never got around to reading them, so I can't say how good they are.

The 2 main Batman books have had pretty good creative teams ever since NML.

Here's a list of every Batman tpb if you're interested:

I'm not that big on No Man's Land.

Hush is a fun read, and the art is simply FANTASTIC,

It's what dreamds are made of.

I'd pick up Black and White, volumes 1 and 2 though.

I just got Broken City, but I haven't read it yet. I expect it to be really good.

I like The Long Halloween also. It wasn't a "regular" Batman story, though -- it was separate from the regular titles and was set shortly after Frank Miller's Year One. The Long Halloween also has a sequel called Dark Victory. Both are good stories -- each introduces a new villain and takes you through a tour of the Batman universe along the way of trying to figure out the identity of the new villain. The murder mystery part isn't really fair -- there's few clues to help you figure out who the villain is in The Long Halloween, and I don't think there's any way to figure out the identity of the villain in Dark Victory -- but they're both fun rides. Both are written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale, whose art has a un ique style that some people find off-putting.

Hush, which someone else mentioned, is written by Loeb, but is illustrated by Jim Lee, not Tim Sale.

Loeb and Sale have a few non-Batman works in print as well (Superman For All Seasons, Daredevil: Yellow, Spider-Man: Blue, and Hulk: Grey, which hasn't been collected yet, but probably will be any day now).

Currently WAR GAMES is going on which is pretty good. But to get into that I would suggest picking up Robin Unmasked and reading HUSH and No Mans Land.

all great stuff and would put you back up to speed.

But HUSH would be on the top of the list of things to get. the story is great, the art is amazing and it collects a lot of villians into one self containing story that pretty much brings you up to speed with the modern day batman and tells you plenty of back story of the other characters so you can jump into the new bat titles pretty easy.

I have a question about Hush.
Spoiler:
I heard awhile back when Hush first came out, that they were going to bring Jason Todd back from the dead. Did this happen, and if so, how did they bring him back?

Spoiler:
Jason Todd that showed up in HUSH storyline was really just Clayface looking like an adult jason todd and he mimic'ed nightwings moves. Now they haven't really brought him back but they are playing with the idea. In some later issues when scarecrow gases batman his fears seem to be real as he see's tim drake as jason todd and he sort of attacks him in the batmobile. At the end of that alfred finds an extra robin mask hinting that Todd was really there? I think they are going to do something with that whole Jason Todd story arc possibly after War Games. The explaination that was given in HUSH that Jason todd could possibly be alive is through the use of one of ghoul's lazerious pits and Todd's empty grave which his body has still not been found.
