Comics for the week of 3/10
Just wanted to weigh in with a few thoughts on this week's books. I picked up: 100 Bullets, Action Comics, Coup D'Etat: Afterword, Fables, Gotham Central, HERO, Powers, Ult X-Men, and Ult Spidey.
To me, the best thing I read this week was the six page 'teaser' to Sleeper: Season Two (which starts in June). Unforuately, its part of the $3 Coup D'Etat: Afterword, the rest of which pretty much sucks. If anyone is on the fence about Sleeper (and Season One was amazing), pick it up, or read it in the store if you can
I was a bit confused about what happened at the end of HERO #14 and how Powers #37 fit in.
HERO:
Powers:
What did everyone else think? Any recommendations?

I got, but haven't read: GOTHAM CENTRAL, ULT. SPIDEY, and FABLES.
I got and read:
SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN: Another great first issue of an arc, but can Jenkins create a full story that lives up to the first issue?
ALTERNATION: Interesting premise about all of history taking place at once (that's a terrible description). The art is decent, but you know what, the lettering is next to terrible. And the story doesn't make enough sense for me to get into it.
COUP D'ETAT: C'mon, for $3, it better offer more than this. Geesh. This should be a 99 cent book. In essence, it's an ad.
Also got the 5th trade in the 100 BULLETS series, but I'm gonna re-read the entire run before I get to it. This shiz is the bomb. If it weren't for SLEEPER, this would be my favorite book of all time.

First, let me plug the greatest comic book website on the net & head on over to BROKENFRONTIER.COM & read my reviews of Action Comics #813 & the brand new She-Hulk #1 .
Here are the links: She-Hulk #1
Action Comics #813
Here is the rest of the new books I picked up, haven't had a chance to read most of them, but I'll post some thoughts anyway.
COUP DETAT AFTERWORD - You nailed it LD. Only got this for the Sleeper prequel which did not dissapoint. I know JP will agree, Sleeper is one of the best comics I've ever read, the new series cannot get here soon enough.
Fables #23 - One of the few books I dig as much as Sleeper & I think is every bit as good as Sleeper. If anything, even MORE creative than Sleeper. This is one of the books that truly transcends the medium. If you just love briliant story telling, comic book fan or not, you have to pick up Fables.
Fallen Angel #9 - I hate to sound repetitive, but another one of my favorite comics. The best work of Peter David's very prolific career. This is IMO the most underrated mainstream comic being published today.
GOTHAM CENTRAL #17 - Ughhhhh. . . . . you guessed it. Yet, another one of my favorite comics. I can't help it, they all came out this week. Another book tha pushed what the medium can do with a superhero comic.
JSA #59 - My opinion isn't going to mean anything after you guys read this.. . . . . . . yes, this is another one of my favorite books (don't worry, I read a shit load, the bad comments are coming). The most consistantly BEST team book maybe of the past decade. This issue was extra good, especially for you Sleeper fans, with Sean Phillip turning in some phenomenal art on this issue.
Action Comics #813 - You'll have to head on over to broken frontier to see what horrible things I have to say about this issue.
Alternation #1 (Art Adams cover) - There are certain artists that I will buy absolutely ANYTHING they are involved in, even if it's a cover, one single panel, anything. The comic book god that is Art Adams is one of them, so that's why I picked this up. Will read it eventually also, it could be some good stupid fun.
Powers #37 - To those here that think I hate Bendis this one is for you. Last issue was one of the best single issues of a comic I've read in the past year. This is his masterpiece & I'm looking foward to seeing how this first series ends. Really can't stand all these comics relaunching with #1's though & calling it "new seasons".
Now here come the negative comments now that I'm getting into my Marvel purchases. . . .
Avengers/Thunderbolts #1 - Not expecting much from this.
Emma Frost #9 - Haven't had a chance to read a single issue of this series yet.
Hulk #68 - Why oh Why can't I bring myself to drop comics. This comic has become one of the most pointless, padded, never goes anywhere books I've ever read.
Iron First #1 - DC has amazing, truly brilliant comics one after another cranking out & this is the recycled shit Marvel has to offer for a new monthly?
She-Hulk #1 - Is this the same as Iron Fist? You'll have to click on the Broken Frontier links to find out the perhaps shocking answer

Sessa, you do love comics, don't you? So many favorites in one week must've just about killed ya.

Give me an idea of what FALLEN ANGEL is about. If you say it's so good, I'm pretty damn sure I'll like it.
Also, I have some pretty good ideas cookin' for paperbackreader.com. I'll post a link here when the stuff is posted. I think Sessa is right, Broken Frontier is one of the best sites out there, but I hope everyone here will participate in what I'm developing over at pbr. I'm crossing my finger that the likes of the DVDtalk comic crowd will join in and make it a success.

I've been over to brokenfrontier and didn't see those new reviews until you provided the links...what am I not doing right?
I was reading Spect Spiderman, but the quality of the story was all over the place, and with the new artist jumping on, I figured it was time for me to jump off (at least until the painted #14).
I cut out Hulk for the same reasons Sessa mentioned after the Split Decisions arc (I decided to finish out the storyline). It really relied almost constantly on the SAME plot devices from arc to arc and, while that worked at first, it got tiresome after awhile.
The new issue of Fables rocks (as expected). You're in for a treat.
JP - I'll check out your new site, just give us the word

Light week for me for new purchases. I onlly bought 3 new titles
4 #3 : I'm in the minority and like the series, probably because I haven't read and of the regular series. Also I have to admit, that Mrs Fantastic is drawn to be disturbingly hot.
Fables 23: I love the series, and I've read up to this arc, I'm waiting for it to end before I start reading it.
Hedge Knight 4: The comic series by George R.R Martin that is running (suprise) late. I still need to pick up the first issue, but just flicking through the books it looks pretty cool.
I got some great deals on back issues this week, I found a new site and got all of these for slightly below cover price:
Formerly Known as the Justice League 1-6
Superman/Batman 2
Superman 10 cent adventure
Teen Titans 5
If anybody has read the FKAJL mini series let me know what you thought about it.

This was was one of the most disappointing weeks of comics I've ever had. With 3 Bendis comics and Cerebus 300, my expectations were way too high.
Cerebus 300: it was a nice ending, but I was really hoping for 1 more burst of amazing comedy or action or drama or something, especially with how 299 ended. It would have been a perfect sendoff if great things had actually been happening in Cerebus the last few years, but it felt bittersweet.
Ultimate X-men 43: Still nothing happening, but I really enjoyed last month's issue and I didn't like this issue. I guess I liked the dialogue and some of the revelations last issue. Maybe Bendis is spreading himself too thin.
Powers 37: Last issue was probably the best issue of the series, but this issue didn't really do anything for me. Bendis did a really bad job of setting up when this took place. Some people were saying this takes place right after Retro Girl gets killed, but the way Walker tells Deena to stop looking at the photos makes me think there may have been some time since the case was closed. Either way I should probably reread the series before I could really judge this issue.
Ulimate Spiderman: it's my favorite Bendis comic and I didn't get it because I signed up for that buy 1 get 1 free subscription deal from Marvel with UFF. I've already got 2 issues of UFF, but no issues of USM. Did anybody else sign up for this?
