Whedon comic book news

It's still a rumor, but a lot of people in the comics world are saying that Joss is going to write the ongoing New X-men comic. Another part of the rumor is that Whedon has some conflicts with his contracts that would prevent him from writing it right now, so there will probably be a fill-in writer after the current writer finishes his run in a couple months.

Also, Joss currently has a Buffy related miniseries coming out from Dark Horse called Tales of the Vampires. The second issue should be out next week.

I thought about putting this in the book forum, but I figured there would be more Whedon fans here.

Actually, Whedon's Firefly movie is scheduled to start shooting in Feb. - that's the major conflict. And who knows how that will be received? It might be a big hit and he would never have time for comics again.

Just because Kevin Smith can't write a comic and make a movie at the same time doesn't mean Joss can't. Joss was able to run 3 different tv shows last year. I figure he can handle a comic and a movie at the same time.

I've liked New X-Men under Morrison.

I forget which site it came from, but the last update I read didn't have Whedon starting his run for another year.

That's really neither here nor there. You'll find few people moonlighting while directing a feature film, even if you put aside the fact that this is Joss' first.

Personally, I think Whedon writing New X-men would be absolutely horrible. The book has been the best it's ever been under Morrison's two year run & I cannot stand Whedon's writing. He writes like what he is, an out of touch middle aged man trying to write how he "thinks" kids talk nowadays, when he actualyl has no clue. From Buffy, to Fray, his dialogue just annoys the hell out of me. Unfortunately, it's pretty much a done deal that he will indeed be taking over New X-men, but his run isn't going to start for another year.
