B.A. hist - I believe there are 6 100 Bullet trades so far, I think they range from $12.99 to $16.99, I may be a bit off I don't have them in front of me.

Sessa, how hard would it be for me to find a first edition trade of the first 100 Bullets? Are those readily available to you?
When you say "giant" hardcover, what exactly does that mean? Did they increase the size of the pages?

Sessa and Chew - thanks.
I may be looking into this rather soon - it might give me something to add to the Xmas list I am starting to get hounded about.

bishop,
if you pick them up at amazon or books a million, they are about $21 or so. as for first printings, most shouldn't be a problem except maybe ultimate spidey 1. i seem to recall that they had a price drop on it recently so that may indicate a newer printing.

Not sure what trades you are referring to. But all of the Marvel hardcovers are first printings, but IMO not all of them are worth getting.

overstock.com is a great way to get the Marvel Hardcovers.
in addition to the above list of HCs, there's:
Capt America - Red, White, and Blue
Capt America - The New Deal
Daredevil Vol 1 (Kevin Smith, David Mack)
Daredevil Vol 2 (Bendis)
Alias (OOP)
Ultimate Marvel Team Up (OOP)
Cage
X-Force - Famous, Mutant, & Mortal
Best of Spider-Man
Complete Frank Miller Spider-Man
Origin, mentioned above, is OOP as well.
And probably there are a few we missed

Many of them also have some degree of bonus materials, from sketches to story concepts to covers, etc.

I have some comics:
100 Bullets by Azzarello and Risso.
Love Fights by Andi Watson. A lighthearted romantic comedy set in a superhero town.
X-Statix by Milligan and Allred. It used to be much better than it is right now. I still hold on to hope. Superhero comic. Ultraviolence and controversy.
NYX by Quesada and Middleton. Only one issue deep, but I really like the artwork, so I'd recommend it to anybody.

I just picked up the new AMAZING SPIDERMAN trade (vol. 5) and the first 100 BULLETS trade (couldn't find a first edition, though).
I also picked up BATMAN #620 and thought it was awesome! I can't wait to read the next in the series.
Sessa, I browsed through CATWOMAN but the art was only so so. I saw the hardcover version of the trade you recommended (Big Score?) but it was in shrinkwrap. Is this the one to get? Is it worth $25?

Eric's idea is to make each story essentially self-contained - so you can jump in any time and have a blast. There are recurring characters but it's the kind of world where anything can and does happen -- including hog-tying a vampire to a car hood, lighting him up and driving into a wall.
Hellboy is published entirely in miniseries and the occasional short, so you're best, and most convenient bet is to pick up the TPBs.
Order: Seed of Destruction, Chained Coffin and Others, Wake the Devil, Right Hand of Doom, Conqueror Worm.
Incidentally, keep your eyes open for Mignola's one shot "Amazing Screw On Head" -- really, wild, wacky stuff. Very, very funny.
But to answer the original question -- I don't think any of the books I currently pick up are coming out on anything resembling a monthly schedule: Planetary, Red Star, Goon, etc. I'm currently cutting back on picking up regular issues and just waiting for the TPBs. A lot more convenient for keeping and reading.

I'm coming into this kinda late and I know I'm going to be repeating a little of what's already been said, but there's 2 comics I seriously think everybody should try: Y the Last Man and Ultimate Spider-Man.
I had been thinking that comics might just be better waiting for the tpb, but YTLM convinced me that there's definitely benefit to the monthly comic. Every month YTLM gives an amazing ending. Usually the issues end with a big surprise or cliffhanger and I've never seen these done better anywhere else. Even when you can figure out what the surprise is going to be, you can't help but love it because it's always executed so well.
As for USM, I wish I had the words to describe how great this comic is. In only 3 years, Bendis, Bagley, and Thibert have produced almost 50 consistently great issues. There's been amazing action, some truly hilarious situations, and some very moving emotional moments. They've taken the traditional super-hero comic and moved it up to the next level.
As for my 3 other favorite monthlies, I'd go for Supreme Power, Runaways, and Alias (which just ended and will basically relaunch as The Pulse early next year).

Hey guys. I just happened upon this thread and it was just what I was looking for. Ive been jonzin to get back into comics for some time. Ive got a couple questions maybe you all can answer.
Since I don't have a local comic shop, where is the best place to pick up comics? Preferably on the cheap!
Are comics still sold in indiviual issues like old or are they mostly found in the large hard or soft cover editions? Are the large copies just a collections of the single issues? Thanks

But I would be curious to hear about other services with larger discounts. Anyone else?

The one thing I hate about online subscriptions is the need to order books 2-3 months in advance. Most of the sites require this.
That's why I subscribe through http://www.midtowncomics.com/ I can make a subscription change or add a single issue up until Monday of shipping week. They have a 15% discount for comics, but shipping is rather pricey.

Many smaller companies are getting into doing TPB's or graphic novels exclusively, but right now, its all about the individual case.

I would definitely pick up Catwoman again. A new artist (Paul Gulacy) has come on board, and his style may be closer to what you like, though I personally loved the old Cooke/Stewart/Pulido issues.
Sessa's list is almost similar to mine:
1. Catwoman
2. Queen & Country
3. Fables
4. Gotham Central
5. Lucifer
