I've read all the old ones, but none of them since the main writer died. Think "Asterix and the Black Gold" or whatever it's called is where I stopped reading -- no access.
The puns and references are just hilarious. It's great that they translate into English so well.

Anthea Bell & Derek Hockridge do the UK translations, while Robert Caron does the US translations. I've noticed incredible differences between the two - US versions translate simpler, more accessible and... less funny, while the UK versions are usually joke-filled. The US version of "Asterix & Cleopatra" is a pain to read.
I love 'em all.

Think most of the ones I read were the UK editions. Pretty good overall. How do you rate the more recent ones that have been released after the one guy died (Goscinny or Uderzo)?
I have a couple of 3 book Hardcovers, but I really like the paperbacks. It's a tough choice trying to figure out which editions to buy as both a collector and fan.

Ive been hearing some real mixed reviews on his latest book. Asterix and the falling sky. Albert Uderzo claims it's one of his best and was very excited about it during pre-anouncements last year. But what i'm hearing is great art but horrible storyline involving fantasy elements which includes aliens.
I was going to purchase it, but now i am holding off hopefully i can get a little more input by my fellow dvdtalk friends if any had a chance to read it.

His last book is Asterix and the falling sky which came out last year in October. (This is Uderzo only, not Goscinny who passed away in the 70's). Here's a little more info on the book if anyone care to read..

I'm a big Tintin fan and have tried to get into Asterix, but they've never really grabbed me
