origin #6...totally confused!!!

alright...i grew up reading the x-titles in high school, then they pulled the whole "alternate universe" storyline through all the titles, i think it was for 4 months, anyway, marvel pissed me off and i became bored with their marketing ploys...so i dropped them.

heard of a miniseries of wolverine's origin, sounded interesting, so i picked it up. WHO THE HELL IS WOLVERINE'S "BROTHER"?? i'm assuming that he's a character that is pretty recent...it's not sabretooth, i hope?

I did not pick up Origin #6 yet because I heard it leaves us high and dry and that there are plans for another mini-series of this coming because of the good sales of this one. Pisses me off!

Anyway, to answer your question (and I have not read #6 yet):
Spoiler:
Dog is Wolverine's brother, but I doubt they explained who Dog turns out to be, if anyone. I also thought they would turn Dog into Sabertooth, but I've heard they do nothing with Dog's part that they ended #5 with...the old man sending Dog after Wolverine. You really need to read the whole series...the biggest thing was who Wolverine actually was in the beginning

I gave up on the X-books years ago. This crap is so convoluted that it hardly makes sense. Jemes and Quesada claimed that this would explain everything. Well it looks that this may have been an exageration.

Maybe the sales made them rewrite the last book or two to make it continuing? There was a LOT of delay.

I'll wait and pick up the trade on this one. Reviews have been pretty neutral and I read the reprint of #1 and it didn't exactly make me jump up and down. I think the actual book reads OK but the hype has been very out of line to what the story itself really is. Kind of built the expectations up too high with it.

Question, because I'm interested in the character but not the comics:

Spoiler:
Who was Wolverine "in the beginning"?

If you're asking the question I think you are asking:

Spoiler:
He was a rich, sick child named James Howlett. The first couple issues they make it seem like the son, named Dog by James and Rose, of the landworker Logan is going to turn into Wolverine. But instead they throw us a loop and it is sickly James that is Wolverine.

Best guess is that James and Dog are actually brothers (Logan and James' mom had an affair with each other). Dog started off with the look of a young Wolverine and when James' powers manifested he started changing into looking like today's Wolverine.

Hopefully that was what you are looking for. If you want you can go to www.marvel.com and hit dotComics. You can read all of the Origin issues (1-6) on there now.

#6 is out! If it is I'll need to go pick that issue up. It was waiting like three months for the final issue!

I liked the story, hopefully
Spoiler:
Sabertooth is not Wolervine's Brother!

#6 is very anticlimactic...just a warning.

Spoiler:
The door is left WIDE open for another Origin series. There are no questions truly answered from #5 in this issue

Okay, so I read all 6 issues on marvel.comics, and have a couple of questions since this is the first comic I've read in a LONG time.

Spoiler:
1. I knew Logan was old -- really old, and now we know he hails from the late 1800s. But what's up with his claws being biological? And his rapid healing? Do other storylines back up this early manifestation of mutant powers?

2. The guesses seem to point to Thomas Logan as wolverine's father, and Wolv and Dog being brothers. I think that's a pretty good observation based on what we've seen here. But what's up with the older boy who died? Did he have some kind of mutant powers too? Did they put him down because of it?

3. I think this Origin series just asks more questions than it answers.

4. Did I miss something? I read it online and it jumped from Rose's death straight to Smitty chasing Logan thru the wilderness saying "I was lying", etc. What happened in-between? Where did Dog go? Huh?

one thing I hate about this Origins book is that they are answering questions that shouldn't be touched.

they shouldn't spoon feed you wolvie's past when for decades it's been a mystery. kills the surprise and guess work of it.

as for the claws. Well they stated a lot of times that the claws were not his power. but then they made it so that he still had a bone structure of claws when Magneto ripped out the adimantium(sp) from his body.

they should mess with wolvies past. it is something that is better left untold. oh well.

Oh, pretty much.

Wolverine's "mysterious past" has been so poorly handled over the past decade that I don't think anyone much cares anymore.

Sabretooth is his father! No, he isn't! Silver Fox was his girlfriend and killed by Sabretooth! No, they were both supersecretagents! Implanted memories! *yuck*

That crap was so lame...

I agree. all the little hints they dropped in the past years in the comics and then took back are just lame. they were trying to test the waters and seeing if that certain back story would have worked or not and then used the line that they are implanted memories to save there arse.

I don't think the moderators had anything to do with blacking out the answers. I decided to use the [.spoiler] (without the .) tag for those that have not read #6 yet.

You just go into the black box and highlight to read what it says.

As far as I know, since there has been no true correlation to who Dog might turn into we cannot make the assumption that he is in the current story line.

I also do not believe Origin fits in the Ultimate line, I believe it is the mainstream line (New X-Men, Uncanny, etc.). Ultimate is like the retelling of all the favorites from the beginning.

Rumor is Origin 2 is in the works and that all things will be answered. I am a bit pissed at Marvel for leaving things high and dry just because this series sold so well. This is also why I think Dark Knight Strikes Back will not end with issue 3.

i thought the story as a whole was kinda lame...so logan has always dug red-heads, and he's really super old...big deal. why was this story line just not incorporated to the ongoing series.

a little more clarification would have been nice, not much of anything was resolved, nor was anything interesting revealed. if marvel decides to take the dog character and now turn him into a re-occurring villian, i think that'll be lame...whatever

that's just my opinion...i could be wrong
