How many comic books do you own?

A similar thread about books people owned got me to wondering how many comic books people own.

I have 25 long boxes at approximately 220 books a piece for a total of 5,500. This is just a rough guess since I've never counted them. How about you?

Wowm, mcougar now I don't feel so bad. Right now I have 19 pushing 20/21 long boxes b/c of several large stacks needing to be bagged & boarded. I've actually had more but only fairly recently I have discovered the wonders of ebay, & I've been slowly weeding out the comics I will never read again which is easier said then done & also replacing a lot of mini-maxi series with trade paper backs. I'm trying to just cut it down to complete runs of my favorite titles.

I doubt I even have 500!

A few weeks ago I probably had twice that number but I took many really old ones round to a charity shop as part of a general clean out! And I may even get around to swapping some of the remainder for a few of those collected sets mentioned in another thread. (Just have to work out what I wish to get rid of and what anthologised titles I'd like to get in "book" form).

I'm hardly buying any titles regularly these days and ideally would just collect a good-quality regular anthology title - which is how I started collecting UK Marvels in my teens. Except there doesn't seem to be much in the way of monthly anthologies these days. For years I've thought that US Marvel should produce an original anthology title. There'd be a couple of strips that would stay with the magazine for months (or years), and one or two that were either try-outs or cancelled titles that could finish their storylines with dignity!

I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but Crossgen is putting out two anthologies (Force and Edge) which reprint about 6-7 comics for $10 (same quality paper as the monthlies). Crossgen has some great stuff, so you might wanna check them out.

I have a whole 2 long boxes of comics.

Most of them are 80s stuff like Superman, Batman, X-Men, Transformers, Star Trek, and a small section of manga.

I own two full long boxes and another long box that's about a quarter of the way full. I used to have more comics but I have no idea what happened to them. I collected mostly GI JOE and THE 'NAM in the 80s/early 90s, and then I gave up on comics and didn't start reading them until the beginning of 2000.

And now I run a huge online comic book magazine. Go figure.

I have a home office i.e. play room, where I keep all my stuff. I'm running out of room. For the record, I've been collecting comic books for about 15 years so the 25 long boxes aren't that crazy a number. At least that's what I tell myself.

I have way too many.

For several years now, I've considered getting my favorite series bound into hardcover volumes. Find a book binder that can do the job or learn the skill myself. Lord knows I have enough "junk" comics to practice on.

I'm down to 12 "short" boxes (I hate long boxes with a passion, they're bulky and come apart too easily), so at 100+ or so a pop I guess that makes 1,300 comics or so. Maybe more or less, it's been years since I "counted."

This is WAY down from about 25 "short" boxes 5 years ago or so – after one too many moves, I've pared down my collection a great deal through both eBay and the regular exchanging of original issues for TPBs if available – I don't care much about having the "first printing" or anything of a comic, I just want the story, so I've swapped away quite a few valuable issues on eBay, bought a TPB and pocketed the difference. Of course I now have 500 or so Trade Paperbacks so I don't know if I've really made a difference in the long haul.

I stopped buying singles years ago, now I mostly buy TPB's and Graphic Novels off half.com. Damn DC and Marvel with their stupid crossovers.

I must have close to 2000 books. I think I have the full run of Animal Man, and some other interesting stuff. Not that they're worth much...

I have no idea, but I'd guess between 8,000 and 10,000 comics (though my buying is down to a handful of titles/month nowadays).

I'll give you $1 for Spider-Man #1. Heh.

I don't see how anyone makes money off collecting comics. Sure the price guides might say an issue is worth something, but I found they're only worth what you can get for it. Usually nothing.

I heard that the market is so glutted now many dealers are buying them for like $.10/lb.

It's only the high demand issues that bring anything.

I've bought many, I've sold many. The majority - you're lucky to get 10-25 cents for. The few, can make some money.

Eleven long boxes and gaining...you think you're saving space by purchasing graphic novels (comps of issues), but that starts eating up your bookshelf space...then the CD's begin to stack up...DVD's pile up....HELP!!!!

I think I have a couple hundred.

Most are from the past few years when I got back into comics.

I have a large stack of GI Joe and Transformers from the 80s.

I'm liking the new GI joe out, but am missing issue #2. I have to try and find a back issue online somewhere.

I've found that most online prices are way too high for individual back issues. Even if it's priced decently they'll gouge you on the shipping.

Just search your local comic book stores, I practicially guarantee with a little patience you'll find what you're looking for. Those 80s-90s comics are a dime a dozen.

i have 42 long boxes that i have collected since 1988. i guess you can fit about 250 books in a box so you do the math.

i was lucky to be able to work at a comic shop in the early 90's so i got most of my books at a huge discount.

i have been able to find almost evey issue of spider-man, all adjectives and other book appearances. maybe about 90% of all books would be about right.

ive always been a big spider-man fan.

i started collecting when i went into a shop with a friend of mine and saw the todd version of amazing sitting on the shelf and thought it looked great and wondered when they changed his look to that big eye style. but i loved it and bought what i could that day.

i stopped about when marvel renumbered the titles of all their lines. and restarted about six months ago.

since then i have been able to find nearly all the back isssues i missed over the last few years.

when i get them all i plan on reading from that time period up till the pesent. so i have no idea whats going on with spidey since then.

somewere along the line my box of N titles has been misplaced or stolen.

when hurricane floyd hit, my house was ruined, along with everything in the basement and the first floor. luckily all my comics were upstairs so i didn't lose them but betwwen the time i got my new house i was living with my dad and had to move all my boxes several times from an emplty house he had, to a PUBLIC STORAGE place, to my new huose.

so somewere along the line 1 of those boxes was lost. the N'S

now i keep all the boxes stacked in the back of my garage.

my near mint copy of amazing #14 also disappeared some time during all the moving but i have a feeling that some may have taken that.

that hurts the most seeing how much it woud be to replace it.

i bought it gor about $91 10 years ago.

I've got about 5 long boxes that I've accumulated since the mid 80s.

The only thing I've sold for a profit was a run of Sandman. Early in the series I was missing #1, so I bought a 1-10 set for $15 at a 50% off halloween sale. The owner had forgotten that he had them on the salesfloor, and was pretty annoyed that I got them at that price. A couple of years later I sold 2-10 back to him for about $140 in trade. Paid for my habit for almost a year.

As for how people store a lot of comics, a friend of mine has a lot of long boxes in his apartment. He packs them tight, stacks them three high, puts a piece of plywood on top, and puts the matress on top of that.

I have 4 of those long boxes. I stoped getting comics sometime in the middle of 1999. Most of it are Marvel comics. Since then I've been out of the comic loop. Although I dont mind getting back in, just that I cant afford it. Maybe sometime later on.
