My Kindle died at 15 months last week. They gave me an extra $65, + prime day price, so I got a good deal, though the CS reps at Amazon are such idiot I was on the phone for over 3 hours. I've now had 4 Kindles die on me. They really need to offer out of warranty paid repair.

It turns out an Anker wireless charger fried both units. Anker is not going to do anything because I didn't buy it from their factory. I just need to hope that Amazon doesn't blame me for the bad units.
For the moment I will be reading on a cheap phone.

I just got my first Kindle about a year ago, so this is disheartening to read. I still mostly read traditional books and an occasional digital one.

That's some expensive junk. As I literally have 2000+ Kindle books, I feel stuck with the format. Amazon no longer allows the end user to download physical copies.

It turns out it's the terrible Kindles, not the Anker. DO NOT BUY A GEN 12 IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY. I'm now on my 4th screwed up Paperwhite Signature Gen 12. 95% of Amazon CS are too dumb to help, 4% don't care, & 1% seemed to want to help but was unable. I own 2000 Kindle books, so I can't just give up. The only Kindle device I own that currently works correctly is the app on my phone............. I AM SO SICK OF THIS. I have over 20 hours into it, & it was really difficult to remove the case, so 3 of them ended up with light scratches when I FINALLY got the case off. I will be reaching out to the attorney general if needed if I am charged by Amazon for the scratches to get a refund. Right now I'm trying their latest idea. I doubt that it will work, but I'm trying.

Are the Kindle Fire Tablets good for reading? They do come with a Kindle app at a much lower price than the e-readers. Also, part of my problem is dowloading my "library" from Amazon's website. I don't know if thatwould be an issue with a tablet? Amazon now will only allow book OWNERS to dl to a Kindle app. Other wise I would dl to my pc & convert to a different brand's format.

There’s a Kindle app for iPad. I’ve been able to download any book I own on it. iPads go on sale between $249.99 and $299.99 for Black Friday. They make mini iPads too. iPads are made well and last a long time.

Re the Kindles: I posted a 1 star review & that got me a call from an Amazon tech in the USA. Apparently, with as many books as I have, it takes several days to successfully load them. I followed the guy's suggestions & all SEEMS well. I wouldn't want to go through this very often. Also, apparently the "32 gb Kindle" only has 1 gb of ram dedicated to the os, which is what caused the issues along with the apparent reality that the device was trying to index every word in 2000 books.
Why don't they give this information to the IDIOT cs reps in the Philippines? It would have saved me hours of frustration.

Because some damn fool believes it is cheaper in the long run to gate keep by paying offshore tech support a pittance . . . even if they are costing a company reputational damage and creating extra work that has to be cleaned up by the American reps that are bleeding the country dry. Sadly, most people give up . . . which makes that shitty logic seem credible.

Keep the complaints about Kindles and customer support in the negative customer experience thread. This one is for deals.

Your experience here makes me glad I sideload everything to my Kindle from Calibre, and don't use my Kindle/Amazon account at all.
Are you trying to load 2000+ books onto your Kindle? I generally just keep stuff on my Kindle that I'm currently reading or might want to jump back to. Usually only several dozen books.

I currently have a Kindle for Kids Gen 12 Paperwhite. I got the Kindle for Kids because it actually cost less than a regular Paperwhite and came with a free cover.

I used to use Caliber, but I didn't expect the no dl to pc change. I like to have everything on the Kindle at once, so I can easily be spontaneous. As I summarized above, when I FINALLY got to talk to a USA rep, he said the trick is to dl SLOWLY. VERY SLOWLY. Since I did that, it's only crashed a couple times while reading. I'd like to check out the Anker I have (The USB charging ports ALWAYS go bad), bu am afraid to take the risk; as this started on a Gen 11 that was charging on the Anker. 2000 books & box sets is less than 4 gb, the unit is supposed to support 32 gb.

I don't remember what the process was... I think I just turned it on, bypassed the child account set-up, and then it booted up like a regular Kindle.
I got the "Cyber City" version, which doesn't look like its specifically for children.
