I bought a book today!
For the first time in maybe 20 years when I bought my last book, but never read some graphic novels like Watchmen, Batman: The Long Halloween. So, basically my dad dared me to read.
So, I took him up on his challenge and bought a book today and he loves the Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, so I bought the latest with In Too Deep. I figured I’ll give it a go. First book, sadly, I’ve read for pleasure since high school.

Yaaaaay READING!
People, myself often among them, think books cost too much, but they are worth it!
Like, even if you read a 10 dollar paperback once, depending on what type of reader you are, that's still many hours of entertainment.

I know. I’m excited. I’m actually looking forward. I don’t know if I’ll go hardcore, but I could see once in a while and on lunch breaks. And, I thought hardcover is always more than paperback. The hard was $15, the paper was $22. I had to get paperback bc I wasn’t gonna lug around a hardcover book.

At my local Indigo (book chain in Canada), I only buy hardcover books from the bargain shelf.
There's a lot of crap books (IMO) there that I would never read, but there'll always be at least a couple literary fiction titles that interest me.
These hardcover books cost between $2-$5 - which is a true bargain. I just accept that the books will be at least a year old (ie. no new titles) - but that's perfectly fine with me... plenty of good books to catch up on.
I would imagine the US books chains would have a bargain shelf that's just as good (or better).
I can't bring myself to spend $10-$40 for a hardcover book.

Use your library folks. Ive read over 200 books in the last three years since I got heavily back into reading. Ive probably bought 5 or 6 books during that same period.

I'm not a hardback fan, unless for art books and such. I wonder what the percentage of profits for any particular book come from hardback versus paperback.
At any rate, read on, MacDuffs! (Daily - lunch or whatever - helps you keep track of plot and characters.)
ETA Libraries are great too, but I like to buy from time to time to, you know, keep the publishing industry alive!

We used to have a big bookstore nearby that sold new condition remaindered books (those that have been marked on the edge so it can't be sold as new) for great prices. I used to buy tons of books there for my kids and myself, but sadly it closed.
I have spent $10-40 (and more) for hardcover books, it's a sickness!

I tend to buy almost exclusively from second hand stores. Thrift stores are good for cheap books but if you’re looking for something specific you’re not likely to find it. I also shop “2nd and Charles” a lot. The selection is still hot of miss but the selection is pretty good.
Also look up “Friends of the Library” in your area. They have books sales a couple times a year and you can find some good stuff for cheap.

Used book stores are definitely an option, but unfortunately I find that while the prices are certainly cheaper than regular priced books at the chain stores - I still find them too pricey.
Their selections are obviously bigger/better than the bargain shelves I buy from, but as I stated before - there's always something I can buy/read while I wait for other books I'm interested in to drop in price.
Gotta save money where I can.

You can also read books for free at your local library. They even let you take them home at no charge, as well.

You know, I treat my self to jelly bellies every once in awhile and whenever I have a few at a time, even the black licorice isn’t so bad. Alone, ewww. But, in a group of fruity flavors hardly noticeable.

Re: I bought a book today!
I’m actually looking forward to my book tomorrow. I’ve plotted times when I can read and I think it’ll be another hobby I wind up enjoying. Sometimes reading even texts put me to sleep. As for the library, I’m just trying one book at a time…

^^Did you mean to get the large print version?
I've been wanting to go and get a library card, as I haven't had one for many (40+) years. I'm worried about going because I didn't return a book, when I was a teen, and fear the embarrassment if they call me out on it, now. I still have the book, and would happily pay for it, but again, it's the fear of embarrassment.

I had no idea it was large print. I honestly thought it would be a pocket sized paperback.

My wife and I read a fair amount. At least every night before bed, often when time allows. I only read on my kindle, while she switches between her kindle and paper books. I chuckle when I see her kindle, because she has the font set so large that there's only like 30 words on a page.
It's always good to read. Have fun!
