Regardless of how nice it is, that price is crazy. I'm sure there are die-hard e-reader fans who will pick it up but it certainly won't appeal to the masses at over $200. No casual reader will buy one.

Yeah, the product is coming out too soon. If you want your product to be that small either admit that it'll have a shorter battery life or wait until battery tech is far enough along to fit your needs.
They were screwed either way with that decision. Adding it will have people mad that they're forced to buy it if they don't need the extra juice. Make it separate and everyone will cry about how the battery isn't as good and they're making people buy it separately.

I was interested until I saw the price, up here in Canada it is $399.99. I can't justify spending that much on a EBook reader. I do want to look at one in person to see how it is though.

The funny thing about the price is $290 still gets you ads. It's $310 otherwise. That's $40 more than an iPad Mini 2!
I see zero need for this. It even has the same PPi as the $119 Paperwhite. The charging case is unnecessary as it lasts for weeks as it is.

To put it in perspective, I believe the original Kindle I had went for either $350 or $400. However, I just don't think it's worth the price jump from the PW or even the Voyage. I really wish I had bought the Voyage last week when it was on sale.

I have to admit I like the new design... wider bezel and page turn buttons are just what I wanted. But the price... ! I'll have to pass. I don't understand this design fetish to have everything paper thin. I noticed the same with TVs. How is ultra thin a plus? I wish they had not thrown away economy in favor of a slight weight reduction. If it had remained around the same price as the voyage I would have bought it.

I just upgraded from an old model to a Paperwhite last week when it was $89.99. That was a very worthwhile upgrade because reading in the dark was kind of a no-go.
Why anyone needs something more advanced than that is still a mystery to me. The Voyager looked nice, but didn't look to be that much better to me. This one is absurdly priced.

Not to mention, to get the benefit of the thinness and reduction in weight you have to take the case off it because the case has a separate battery in it.
At no point have I found my Papewhite to be burdensome or lacking in battery capacity. I just don't see any need for the Oasis, especially at $290.

I'm left-handed, I use my Paperwhite in portrait mode a lot, and that's way too expensive. I'm out.

But, yeah, $300 for this thing is nucking futs.

And it's an additional $90 if you want the no-ads 3G version ($380).

Since I was late on pulling the trigger on the Voyage sale last week I went ahead and ordered a refurbished unit for $152. You can all thank me when it's on sale again within the next few days

They finally released a Kindle too expensive for me. My husband has my old Paperwhite 2 and I have my Kindle Voyage. We're good.

Couldn't believe this doesn't even have the adaptive lighting the Voyager one has.

I love my Voyage. I like the "pagepress" buttons and appreciate that the entire front is one flat piece of glass.
I like the ergonomic look and smaller size/weight of the Oasis but it bothers the crap out of me that I would have to buy a cover when I don't want it....oh and that cover negates the ergonomics as well as destroying the whole "lightest and thinnest kindle ever" thing.
